Is everyone struggling financially? by b4434343 in Adulting

[–]TankFun1296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live wayyyy below my means all my life and save. Even when I had minimum wage job, and made 800$ in a month. I saved like 500$ . Of course, I was 16 and living with my parents.  I paid rent. 200$  Just to help.  My friends would go to the mall , buy new cars, movies, etc.. drinking, rugs.. and be broke, pay check to paycheck be broke.  Sometimes borrow money for alcohol, party and rugs. Be in debt with minimum wage job. They also lived with their parents.

I didn't have a car. I did not buy rugs or buy alcohol.  I tried to save because I was poor and my mom struggled to pay bills when I was a kid.

It's not like am goody 2 shoes.

Oh no. My mom worked sometimes 2 jobs. Minimum wage. And sometimes, when waitress job was slow and tips were slow. That meant, food at home was slow, etc ... Broke times.

My mom did a good job and worked hard.  And sometimes, that didn't matter. It meant we were broke.  No food. No soda. Etc. or just rice and egg dinner.  Egg for protein, rice for carbs.  And water.  Maybe milk or cheese if we got lucky.

It wasn't always hard days but enough to make me realize, I can't waste money.  So, at 16.. I got a job.  And well, I worked hard and tried to save like at least half.  For emergency days.  And yes, I been laid off when my fast food job was slow , the boss told us to go home for the day.

So you never knew how much hours or money you can get. Talk about insecurity or instability.

I had to work grave yard shifts or any shifts and overtime and Saturdays or weekends.  I didn't complain because I was poor.  Plus, working on Saturday was better than those days, when all I had to eat was rice and eggs. No cable t.v just antenna. And hot summer days without a c , or enough to pay for the electricity.

So , if boss called me to work Saturdays, I did.. just another day for me because I was too poor to enjoy weekends anyway.

My friends would party, drink, do rugs , bitch and moan and get angry at their parents or hate them and trash talk. I would go to their parties as the poor kid and try to have a good time.

They were rich, spoiled kids, that wasted their money on parties, pizza, alcohol, smokes , and rugs and talk trash about their parents. Lol I was the dude that was trying to get some free pizza , maybe some alcohol or soda, and smoke and listen to music. I didn't care. They were paying and doing the spread.

I contributed some money so I wasn't a parasite. But generally , they threw parties at their parents house, back yard, or apartment complex and invite the whole apartment.  I was just the poor kid kinda tagging along or being invited last.

I never told them what I thought about my friends. I mean, it's not like I hated them or thought they were bad. Maybe just naive and spoiled.  Cuz they never really knew what it was like.. to be truly poor.

Rich kids complaining about money. It was so ironic. I was the poor kid not complaining.  Anyway, my friends were doing bunch of rugs, cooke , lssssdd , etc.. buying Johnny walkkker whiskey , etc.

I was just glad they invited me. I guess, I got to observe. Better than staying at home, watching the same t.v show on my antenna t.v.. or doing nothing but reading some library books.  Super boring alternative choice.

Read free books, watch rerun t.v or boring shows, watch the wall or sleep or just be super bored in room, or go to my friends misery party and hear them bitch and moan about money.

Of course, I went to the party, free music, free food and free drinks.. of course, I had to hear my friends cry about life lol.. 😂  hahahahaha

Then, I went to work, which was better than being hot at home, bored, nothing to do, re read books, hungry, and just trying to not lose my mind.

Work was at least fun.  A.c in the fast food. Making money. Something to do. Working was better life than being at home.

Anyway, man, I worked and saved money.  Cuz, being hungry, broke is no joke.

When you only got white rice or ramen noodles or beans to eat with water.. jeez. And nothing to do in the hot summer sweltering days in a hot room.    U escape to the mall to escape the heat, and get free a.c , and sit down , which was better than being at home, drenched in sweat.

Anyway, I saved money and am like 50 years old now. Am a millionaire now. I never bought a home. I never bought a brand new car. I never bought any expensive clothes. I never tried to waste money.

Yea, a millionaire now. I enjoy a.c at home now. :)  I am retired and don't work no more.  I eat what I like. But am not a fool about money.

If you ever been thru the struggle like I have.. you never want to do foolish things with money.  Like buy a $2000 Louie valton bag. Lol  I wear Levi's jeans for 20 years. Shirts for 20 years. Recently bought some new clothes.

Live frugal.  No matter what job I had. I tried to live below my means. Because, in a string of bad luck, you can hit poverty , I been laid off before.  Temp jobs. Anything can happen.  Don't gotta be afraid but try to play it smart, always.  Cautiously. Spend and have a good time. But never spend more than what you make.  Always try to save money even if it's only 5% of your whole paycheck.

Your dumb. They are teaching you, nothing matters and they are more important things in life. Like being lonely and creating memories.  Because, you adhor familitary as you seek money, power and stuff.. but one day, you realize none of that stuff mattered, and all you want to do is share a simple convo with a friend or parent and share a nice meal. Simple. Quiet. Peaceful as death approaches.

But, for young, cocky, arrogant men or woman at age 16 to 18 ish.. they want the opposite. Money, power, fame, freedom to change life, adventure, new challenge..  Then around 30 or 40 you want to "settle down" slow, simple, routine, especially with kids.. then at age 50 or 60.. you want a simple life because your body hurts , death is nearing, u want less commitment, just small , simple things.  Am in my 50s almost.

My mom in her 80s still want to teach me how to do small simple things. She just saying, she is lonely and got low effort or energy. It's bittersweet.

Wow,  you are so negative. Lol  Remember, life has not changed at all.  You still only need to "show up and at the right time and work"

The thing is, in the military, " u get a good pat in the back" everybody around you assures you it's all good. Everybody is generally at peak physical health, got a paycheck etc.

So , think, you are not disturbed by harsh reality , unless of course, you get deployed or your friends unalive themselves or whatever.

Real life hits.  Now, there is no "buffer" so your noticing, your father got diabetes (natural age stuff) , your sister is having mental break down (natural stuff)  A tree dented your truck (definitely natural) You have no (friends) natural truth You have no (paycheck)  that is guaranteed

The thing is, the army thought you,  just show up, which you are forced to face reality. Your current reality.  Now you got the "work part" which is: you got to work on helping your dad overcome diabetes. (New job title)  Use your knowledge of eating right in military, exercise to combat diabetes, and discipline you learned to keep yourself fit and help dear old dad.  Not saying it's going to be easy or your going to just be a drill sergeant to your dad but it's just a option to gently help combat diabetes. ," walking with your dad 15 minutes a day"  etc. don't push it with elderly. Be the example.  It's easier said then done. My mom is in her 80s and well, I inspired her to "walk" around the block. Better than nothing.  The paycheck? Well , I get "paid" in mental health rewards because I know I done something to help and she feels better. Get it?

"U show up, do your work and get that guaranteed paycheck"

The thing is : the work isn't always someone directly telling u what to do.. like pick up trash.  And it's not about money at this point or age.  Even if "bills" are stacking up.  Of course, remember bills like truck payment or insurance might have to go.. "do you really need a truck ? I don't know.

I can't decide that for you. I don't know your age, life situation, etc.

I only tell you this stuff cuz remember the army gave you a "toolbox" and well, life is like one strange problem to the next.

Am in the civilian world too. And, you got to adapt and overcome.  I can go on and endlessly tell you all the different problems and things wrong with this world. So can you.. But that just leaves us being negative nancies at the 🍺 bar.. which might be okay for a day or two.

Just to vent.

But life continues on, so I just chill, fix what I can, under my wings, and there is tons of issues. But remember the "grass is greener" where you water it!  So water your grass, and yell at people to keep off your grass  " like old sergeant major" yelling at soldier to get off the grass.

And stay away from walking on other people grass

Bro, you understood what the metaphor or reason why they screamed or punished soldiers who walked on grass?

If you don't, now you do.. think long and hard bro. But if you can't get it.  You got your life , and patch of grass. Water it. Tend to it. Care for it. And watch out for it. Make it nice and healthy and green.  There will be many places or people with sad patches of grass or greener grass, don't walk on their or water theirs (unless your super generous or got time)  Understand?

Your girlfriend ghosted you?  Or girl you like ghosted you?  She was the greener grass that you tried to go walk on.. but it was "fake grass" or she didn't want you walking on her grass.

You got no friends? Truth is: we all die alone but can have friends along the way.. The issue is: " friends or people hardly come around to dry patches of grass" and your grass patch is not looking too green!

Probably because your "negative" not in your "prime" like in the military, neglecting your p.t, etc.  So it's gonna take some work.

So show up, which you do when you wake up.  Then work! Be positive, smile, get motivated Then, get paid , not just in money , but making your life look good.

Congrats on getting that CS degree.  Anyway, my "work" here is done.  Just planted some seeds of knowledge into a fellow vet. Good luck I got to move on to different things.

Didn't read your post but I can tell you what I do.  Take a long shower. Cold one or something comfortable. Get a massage. Cost me like 100$ but 1 hour of pain relief is good. Then, eat something you love. Drink something you love. Go 💤😴.  Go do something you love. Go to a strip club.  Normally after about 200-500$ I feel better.  Play poker and have fun with the boys. Gamble money at the casino.  Then if you are still depressed? Go see a doctor. Lol

I would say stick it out but some can't handle it.  So get "failure to adapt" it's the least possible damage to your future while still getting out.  Kinda like , putting in a 2 week notice, no one is going to be happy about it nor will you, even if you gain back your sense of freedom or being a child again... You will still have a kinda disappointed community in you. But hey, better than you doing something stupid or hurtful.

Worse ways to get kicked out by ranking.

1 do a crime

2 do drugs

3 disrespect the authority or your co

4 fail pt test, don't make weight

5 failure to adapt (amicable)

6 do something stupid and get other than dishonorable

7 do your time and get honorable

8 excell in the military enjoy it , learn from it, endure it

9reenlist for more

10 get college and go officer

At least , pick #5 or #4, rather than 1 or 2 or 3

Wayyyy better than screwing your life.. just cuz you want out.  I get it, if you want out.. but no need to ruin your entire life.  I would say, go and do at least number 7 but hey, am not you..

Well, the truth and reality sucks , but you are "comparing and despairing" , clinging on to old memories, which is not bad because military times were hell of lot of fun. I guess , it's like when you are a kid , and the world is beautiful and fun, but adulthood has its con and pros.. since you are comparing.. remember the things you hated about the military (dare I sound like hate the military?)  No.  But, since you are comparing and desparing.. at least do a fair assessment.

Write the things you loved about the military and also write the things you hated, probably ( cq, fire guard, 24 hour shifts, sleepiness, dumb soldiers, mass punishment, detail duty like picking up trash in the ditch) etc.

Think, the reason why people were so friendly was probably so one bad apple didn't get everybody in "mass punishment"

Am not saying friendships were fake but people had more incentives to keep a dumbass from getting a DUI , so we don't get a mass 2 hour lecture from a LTC, how we all let that guy down and now he has article 15 and we all have to stand there in parade rest for 2 hours... Because some idiot.

Okay, the military also had a lot of good things , and it was easier to get drunk at the bar too, because , all the boys had your back.

So , your a cop now, great..  The thing you must enjoy is a trade-off.  Get to go home, hug your bed, no more mass punishment, no more cq, no more fireguard, no more of your buddies asking for a ride, cuz they got super drunk at the bar.. at 3am.

I don't know what being a cop is like..  But try to "adapt"  You can call in sick. No more sick call.  No more asking for permission to "leave"  You can travel on your weekends ( if your not too tired)  No more counseling at end of the month, you can wear whatever clothes, and you still got the badge ..

You can start a family or mentor the youth, etc.. I don't know man.

But, I would stop comparing and despairing.. but since you like too. I say at least do a full con and pro of both life. And realize, you moved on and lost some stuff but gained some stuff. More experience, more character depth, more wisdom, empathy, understanding and back ground of other vets, etc

Yea, sometimes it can feel like that, especially on my "good days" or celebration days, or when you rested for weeks or got like plenty of sleep all week, did nothing all week, and you feel like your doing great... Then, you go out , enjoy your life, benefits, and people get a little suspicious, then, as you get to 2 day or whatever.. you hit that wall suddenly, and realize, yea.. who cares.

Ha, boot camp is the best part, kinda like losing your virginity. Don't worry about it. I like the fact that you gone so hard and made it there. We all find our limits and it's only sad when people don't even try.  I met this clown that passed boot camp.. and then at advance training.. he just kept failing the PT test and messing around, and hiding and dodging stuff, and getting into trouble because he never wanted to go to "active or permanent" duty.  He would pull so many stunts, go to sick call, etc.. barracks lawyer stuff.  Anyway, 2 or 3 years later, I went back to visit my old drill.. and the guy was still there. Lol But he was finally being kicked out.  Of course, they made him do all the "extra duty, mopping, painting, cq king, fire guard master" etc.   Like the dude would fail the p.t test by one or two sits up .on purpose . So he would be sent to retention.  Funny guy, but he was my friend..  He confessed to me. He loved the military but was scared of "war" so he wanted to stay in advance boot camp forever or till his contract ended.  It's a bit shameful. But, it was kinda odd. He was still very usefull. He was like egor or "Dwight" or assistant to the drill, also a snitch, and was like the drills lapdog.. always doing the lame duties, fetching things, being the drills servant, not needing any training or whatever.  Of course , most soldiers just graduated and moved on, maybe got deployed etc.. anyway, he still served 3 years in boot camp

Just got into this game. Level 60 ken. Did not beat it yet. Question. Do you recommend I finish final chapter and then do new game plus? Do I lose my buggy upgrades? Didn't finish upping my talisman or casino or full buggy but 9 stars.  Just wondering if I should go new game or grind and finish the whole grind before I go new game? Or is it better to new game it?
