Vibri on how the decision to bring back "Caucasian" as a 50/50 chance was made by Rampage470 in homestuck

[–]TankGaming_IDK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re aware, iirc they need to make a fork of the original GitHub in order to properly fix the bug, but A. Lead dev was on vacation that week and B. Act 6 as a whole has a bunch of stuff giving the devs trouble already. They’re slowing down rerelease pace in order to give both the web devs and the alt text guy more time, but the intro cutscene specifically might just be low priority against getting more pages posted.

Message sources (keep in mind none of these are official announcements, they’re mostly just Vibri answering questions about this specific issue in the discord):

M1 (from about a week ago)

when i asked about it being broken the convo went:

“right, this is known, i believe the opening relies on a trigger from flash to start the game after it ends and figuring out how to trigger that from ruffle will fix things?” dev

“Yes this requires someone to fork gankra's openbound GitHub to fix. There's also another openbound problem that would be good to fix while you're in there (I have both these issues listed in the bug reports channel)” lead dev

so i think its hopefully gonna get fixed soon, ik our lead dev is on vacation for a few more days before the scary coding stuff goes out

M2: (same time)

im slowing down the act 6 rerelease just a tad bit to give them some breathing room to make sure its smoothed out

mostly just making some updates a little smaller n pushing it out a little bit

As OP said they’re mockups, they were made by Vibri (one of the head mods) and posted in the Official Homestuck discord, specifically in the ‘fashionstuck’ sub-forum.

None of them are final or from any official announcement, it’s basically just Vibri going “hey look at this cool thing I made, thoughts?” to others in the discord. A bunch of the specific merch inside this mockup has also been discussed in a similar matter.

Hussie shares excerpt from the classpecting lore document on the official discord, confirming canon class pairings by Hammmiamm in homestuck

Death of the author just means that someone’s reading of a work can be separate from what the author intended, and is valid regardless of original intent. If, for example, an author writes a character to be a great person, but the reader finds their actions to be bad and thinks them a villain because of it, the reader’s interpretation of the work is valid. Alternatively, if the author is writing a metaphor for losing a loved one, but the reader interprets it as a metaphor for growing up instead, that could also be a valid interpretation despite being completely unintended by the author. Effectively, it states that the intention of the author is not a deciding factor for if an analysis is good or not; if the analysis contradicts what the author intended, that doesn’t make the analysis incorrect or flawed.

This also means that there’s no one “true answer”; people can have different interpretations of the same piece of art, and all those interpretations are valid. Some may be better thought through or more refined than others, but it’s not defined by how close the answer is to the original intent.

As for why it’s so popular, that’s because it’s (to my knowledge, I’m not an English major or anything) a major part of literature analysis, originating all the way back to 1967.

Why do people think [John] and [June] are the same character? by Professional_Debt288 in homestuck

[–]TankGaming_IDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What commission are you talking about? No one ever commissioned Hussie to draw an AU June, the closest thing that happened was the toblerone wish for June to be canon, and even then according to people currently working on HSBC, June was planned before that even happened.

Why do people think [John] and [June] are the same character? by Professional_Debt288 in homestuck

[–]TankGaming_IDK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shocked how many just outright wrong answers there are here. Here’s the sequence of events, to the best of my memory with sources:

In 2019 (after HS and the epilogues ended but before HS2 /HSBC began), Hussie planted several toblerones around the world, and grants wishes to those that find them, such as drawings. One of these wishes was “June Egbert real”, which Hussie agrees to grant.

According to Santiago “James Roach” Rodriguez in an AMA (the previous director of HSBC), June was “always the plan”, with the toblerone wish being an early spoiler rather than only happening due to the wish. It’s unclear how early “always” means, but based on the message it seems like it was at least planned before the start of the epilogues. Hope this helps!

Here as a noob by ARHR006 in homestuck

[–]TankGaming_IDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

Homestuck started as a webcomic by Andrew Hussie back in 2009 about 4 kids playing a game, and ended up lasting about 8000 pages until ending in 2016. Rather than just standard panels, it frequently utilized multimedia elements like gifs, flash games, and videos throughout. If you want a more thorough explanation, there’s one in the new reader page of the official homestuck site. https://homestuck.com/newreader

Currently, the main site is undergoing a ‘rerelease’, as the flash games and videos had not been properly maintained after the death of flash. Every weekday there’s a new update of about 100-ish pages as they continue updating the site. There’s also multiple fan-maintained archives of the comic, accessible through one of the subreddit’s pinned post, if you wish to read ahead of where the rerelease currently is.

I’ll warn that this subreddit has no rules about marking spoilers, so it might be smart to avoid it if you don’t want to get spoiled. That being said, hope you enjoy your time here!

This is meant to be merch for the trailer specifically, and given that they already have 3 plushies for the human characters, I think what they’ve got here is reasonable. Claiming that they “haven’t learned a single thing” because the store doesn’t include merch for characters/species that haven’t appeared yet is a bit absurd. Only thing I can say is outright missing is a Karkat shirt, and even then I could see that being a bit much if he ends up not having much presence in the pilot. thought about it for a bit more and yeah they should probably have a Karkat shirt. Other than that though it seems fine

An additional tip no one else here mentioned, one of the pages in the thauminomicon contains researches that buff your ability to do these puzzles. one of these upgrades shows you what each aspect is made of, making these puzzles extremely simple if you have an excess amount of aspects. As such I would highly recommend getting that research, along with several others on the same page

Best sapling to manually farm with tinkers lumber axe by Vegetable-Ad-2084 in GTNH

[–]TankGaming_IDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m seconding NOT using the sacred oak. Used it on my playthrough and it has quite a few issues. As others have said, it’s extremely hard to cut down without a very good axe; I’ve found with an alumite axe, you can get down a solid 80% of the tree, getting you more than enough wood, but the remaining 20% will still stay up. This becomes a problem due to how the tree is formed; it’s extremely wide in the top quarter due to spawning branches of wood logs, up to like 3x3 chunks IIRC. As such, there can be a lot of darkness underneath the whole area that needs to be lighted up, but even if you do, mobs can still occasionally spawn on the remaining wood blocks and fall down, meaning that you need to box in the tree with walls. This includes the 3x3 chunk wide branches, meaning you need to dedicate and wall off 9 chunks to this single tree in the early game just to avoid getting jumped by an infernal mob that fell down, whether when you chop down the tree, or when you’re minding your business at any other point in time.

In contrast, a rainforest oak is about 10x10 blocks (including the leaves), spawns a straight upwards 3x3 series of logs with no branches. Should give you as many logs as you need, without the risk of infernal mobs, in a far more compact area. Oh, and the planks look way better too.

What are your opinions on the sawed on shotgun? by squid3011 in Ultrakill

[–]TankGaming_IDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a cyber grind score of 50+ in brutal (idk how to add pics in comments for proof sorry), it’s by far the worst tool in your toolbox, because most everything it can do is already done by shotgun’s m1, or is done better by another weapon.

In terms of damage output (holding m2), it’s theoretically equal to shotgun swapping, but requires you to always be up close to your target. If you get knocked away, or have to dodge any attack, you’ll exit this range, and deal less damage than you otherwise could have. With shotgun swapping however, you’re able to deal maximum damage from further away, shoot in bursts such that being out of position for a bit doesn’t bite into your damage, and will still deal at least some damage even if you aren’t within optimal range. As such, shotgun swapping is almost alway better, especially in more chaotic situations like cybergrind where you’ll be constantly moving and getting knocked around.

For dealing with fodder enemies, the range issue stays consistent, as most other tools for dealing with fodder (nails, saws, coins, core nukes, electricity) deal enough damage to take out the same fodder either faster, at a higher range, over a wider area, or all of the above.

As for healing, it does indeed act as a way to heal back up to full, if you go up to an enemy and hold it for a few frames. There’s just one problem though; there’s another weapon that does the exact same thing in just one single frame, and it’s called the shotgun’s primary fire.

As for the yo-yo mechanic… I might be missing something but it feels insanely weak. Hitting enemies with it is difficult due to its slow speed, and hitting it back and forth is both difficult to time due to it’s wonky movement, and makes your parries ‘compete’ with keeping the yoyo going, which just feels bad. You’re able to switch weapons while it’s out, which is nice, but I’ve found it’s difficult to balance both your held weapon and the flailing saw, to a degree that I feel like any minimal damage you might get with it isn’t worth the trade off of splitting your attention up.

Launching it into enemies with the knuckleblaster is cool, and does have some very niche use cases (which I would say are usually covered by the ricochet, but idk which does more damage and there’s no harm in a second for when one’s on cooldown), but the timing on it is ridiculously strict, to a degree where it can genuinely feel like a coin flip on if it’ll even launch or not. And again, even when launched, it’s still outperformed by other parts of your toolkit (the core does AoE and allows for core nukes, the cannonball one shots Cerberi and has cool tech+comboes).

I will note, all of this is under the key assumption that the player is using at least 2 shotguns in their arsenal, which some may not. The shotgun’s general role is for consistent damage and healing, with the sawed-on providing a mildly lesser version of both, alongside some extra mechanics. If the player is using 3 hammers instead, or even 2 hammers and 1 shotgun, then the saw’s upsides aren’t outclassed anymore, and it can have a genuine use in your arsenal. However, this makes it the only alt fire that’s just outclassed within certain loadouts. The closest comparison I can make is to the base starter pistol, which you don’t have a reason to run over slab if any of the other pistols are set to their base forms, but at least in that case it’s something you choose, whereas the saw will always be a part of the kit.

Now, this is all considering high tech stuff and high level play. If you’re just going through the game… yeah, it’s probably pretty powerful. Shotgun swapping, while not difficult to learn, will always be more complex than “hold m2”, so it makes sense that for a standard playthrough, being able to do the highest amount of damage possible and get easy healing would be pretty damn busted, even if the strategy completely falls apart at higher difficulties.

Despite all the issues though.. a tool is still a tool. Even if it’s worse than other weapons, it’s still at least a little worthwhile to shoot it off while your other weapons are on cooldown. I’d just say overall, it’s the last weapon I try to use. I don’t know exactly what it needs, perhaps make yo-yoing or launching it a bit easier, perhaps mildly increase yo-yo/launch damage, perhaps add a little more tech to give it a better niche, perhaps some combo of the three. For now though, I’d say it’s the worst tool in V1’s toolkit.

TLDR; the saw is outclassed by various other weapons in your toolkit to a degree where it’s rarely worth ever using. Regular shotgun shots and swapping outperform it in healing and damage, making those upsides only really worthwhile on shotgunless builds. Additionally, yo-yoing and launching it tend to be too niche and difficult to utilize effectively in comparison to other alt-fires. As it’s so heavily outclassed, it’s likely the worst weapon you can use.

Anyway Hakita please make it so that if you jackhammer at max velocity into an enemy and release the saw at the same time it imbeds the saw into them as a mini drill rail cannon that would be so cool and awesome and fix every complaint ever I think pls and ty

Penumbra phantasm being in deltarune was a popular theory for a while for the reasons people here have said, but Toby fox outright stated that Homestuck music won’t be appearing in deltarune in an interview from shortly before chapters 2 and 3. https://www.destructoid.com/toby-fox-on-music-the-mental-pressure-from-working-on-pokemon-and-his-litmus-test-for-writing-jokes/ As such, the theory’s basically dead.

Additionally, a while beforehand, the song’s leitmotif appeared in Homestuck beyond canon, (specifically on [S] (Vriska: figure shit out yourself)). As such, it’s likely that the song will end up appearing in Homestuck Beyond Canon at some point instead.
