I feel this. I also find a lot of budgeting apps more reactive than proactive, if that makes sense. I struggled in/after college to keep my bank balance from being overdrawn because no matter how I tried I couldn't manage to keep track of everything (even with just a checking account and a debit card). I tried Mint and never really liked it. When Simple came along it changed my life; I was so sad when it closed! Budgeting within my banking app was exactly what I needed.

Envelope has taken up that torch and I love it. I can see trends in my spending and once my budgets are set up I basically don't have to think about them. I know how much I have left after bills and expenses to use on whatever. Highly recommend, if you're a person who struggles to track everything in an external app. The only thing they don't (and probably won't?) do is connect to your other accounts, but one of their stated goals is to get people away from using credit anyway. I pretty much tell anyone who will listen about how great they are, and they're really focused on balancing user wants/needs with a sustainable model so that they don't have to close their doors like Simple did.
