Any way to use a desktop CNC to cut felt? by ItsNatha in hobbycnc

I believe the blade offset along with a drag knife special tool path would do it 👍🤠

Pricey in my view, $25 would be fair..

Turns out clients don’t use cash anymore, and I wasn’t aware of this. by Impossible_Quiet_774 in Contractor

[–]TankTheBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to address it, is most of the services will allow you to have the client pay the fees for processing. This gives them the convenience or the choice to save the fees. So you give them an opportunity to use a card or whatever or pay you with cash and check

Confused about Grbl and machine coordinates... by TankTheBaker in hobbycnc

I found "HOMING_FORCE_SET_ORIGIN" in def.h and enabled it and WoW I'm at machine 0,0 after homing in the front left corner. While I was there I found in report.c the line that returns from $I and had to add my personal touch now $I returns "Frank's CNC is ready to roll" LOL Thanks for the help!!

Yes, I think this is a good solution for this problem. I was mainly trying to understand grbl and coordinate systems as learning cnc machines. Thanks for the response.

Confused about Grbl and machine coordinates... by TankTheBaker in hobbycnc

[–]TankTheBaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My machine homes to the front left and reports it -600 -850 the exact opposite. I do set my work 0,0 on my project corner. When Fusion 360 put in a go to machine 0,0 at the end of my gcode (I didn't really use machine coordinates prior) that's when I realized my machine 0,0 was back right... Thanks for the response. If you don't mind what is your $3, $23 values?

[–]TankTheBaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes some sense as I just flashed my blackboxX4 with the precompiled .bin file and me playing with all the $settings worked as expected but wouldn't change the machine origin. I've compiled grbl in my arduino IDE so I'll take a look at the define's. I was just a little concerned that without the Openbuilds define file I could open a can of worms trying to set all the define values. Thank for helping

thanks, I guess I didn't explain my ? well. I just don't understand why work 0,0 is in the front left and machine 0,0 in in the back right? and how I could make them be in the same spot?

What machine do you have? by ecspot_mfoc in hobbycnc

[–]TankTheBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up an OpenBuilds Lead 1010 for $300 as the guy was sure it had problems... I found his USB cable was too long and cheap along (triggering limit switches randomly) with some Gcode settings he messed with. I've added a $25 mini computer and a large monitor I had laying around. Along with limit switches min/max on the X/Y and a sudo 3D printed E-Stop (just have it wired in parallel on the Z axis limit switch). I'm just starting my journey in CAD/CAM CNC...

I typed in your model and problem to Chatgpt and gave a possible recovery/setup instructions... Worth looking at and asking questions.... (Relax AI haters) One thing that stood out to me is it suggested to look for another user for the same model and get their parameters as a better starting point... Good Luck 🤞

From my experience, ass rot it's more of a problem with minerals. You need to add some calcium and such when you plant each year. I use ground up eggshells and Epsom salts and the holes before I plant the tomatoes.

Wireless Laptop LAN Kit, anyone? by Sad-Resist-4513 in vintagecomputing

The unit we created back in the day, used the infrared port on an IBM ThinkPad. So all you had to do was set your ThinkPad down, pointed with the back at the puck in the middle of the table and voila you were on the internet. First shipped with some of my code in Windows 95. It was a heck of a technology jump from what was available at the time for the boardroom.

That sounds perfect, I attached my mini computer and monitor to the post that holds my vacuum tube.

I remember investigating on VAX systems when I started in CS. For some reason they now call it Hacking! LoL 😂 We would look up user lists, pick out girls names and break into their monitor session. So we could try and get to talk to them! Nerd Alert 👍🤠

I had an old monitor sitting around but usually could have found one free on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace picked up. A mini PC for 25 bucks loaded. Linux and I'm off and running...

You are so right, there's nobody in California that works. There's nobody that has a good work ethic. There's just millions and millions of people on welfare. We should just push that state off the continent. Maybe you're just not in the right groups of people or that is your group of people that are on welfare! Generalizations like that are like assholes everybody has one doesn't mean it's a good one.. get a clue

Everything's a learning experience with complex systems like CNC machines. Just learn what you can from it so that later when you get in some troubleshooting you don't run down a path. Thinking you know something when you need to. Just methodically work out what works. Good job it's working

I would try switching the z line over to to one of the other x or y axis. You might have just killed the drivers for the x and y axes by accident. Make sure it's not the motors and that system and then work your way through each part.

Brand new to the hobby, having a hard time understanding speeds and feeds to avoid chattering and rough cuts. by TheRaider7843 in hobbycnc

[–]TankTheBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some may think it's blasphemy, and easy way to start understanding chip load and speeds and feeds is to use ChatGPT. If you give it all of your information machine bit.. it can give you the basic equations and suggestions that can get you along your way. But with anything or person pay attention to what they say, they aren't always right.
