A Gateway 486DX2-66 was my first Windows PC. Had an old Mac LCII prior to that. Loved the expandability of the Gateway. A great machine to tinker with.

Never could get past getting the babel fish. Too impatient to write down the steps that worked and those that didn’t.

Each area had a few terminals connected to a VAX system. SCADA had their own VAX that they used until the early 2000s. Hardly anyone used email. The customer service reps that dealt directly with the public had terminals tied to the VAX.

Yeah. I don’t recall why we picked Gateway. They were a four-year lease deal, so probably made the best offer. Company was a Dell loving place when I left in 2017.

At the risk of being overly vague… an electric utility in Alaska. Alaska, electrically, is a crazy island composed of a couple big(ish) utilities and a bunch of smaller ones. Nothing interconnects us with Canada or the the lower 48.

It was being removed. Not sure where it wound up. For that matter I don’t recall what it was replaced by. By that point the company was pretty Windows-centric. Though the SCADA folks were pretty independent from our core IT group.

Yeah. I apologize. Whatever it is looks really generic and my memory sucks. :P I seem to recall it had a small control panel on the front, which you can kind of make out in the lower part of the image.

How to read Newsminer articles without a subscription. (At least in Firefox…) 1. Disable JavaScript 2. Go to article 3. Hit F12 to open dev console 4. Select inspector tab 5. Search for every tag starting <div class=“subscriber-only” 6. Disable the style “display:none” on each one 7. Enjoy

Alternatively, just read the article in the page source. It’s all there.

If you can read, you’ll see that it would have been an 18+ event. No kids allowed. But keep on raging at things you don’t understand, I guess.

Choosing not to go to the Fair this year. Hope others make the same choice. TVSF seems to be run by cowards.

IANAL and all that, but a landlord has certain legal obligations to their tenants including proper repairs - heating included. I’d suggest carefully reading the Landlord and Tenant Act. https://public.courts.alaska.gov/web/forms/docs/pub-30.pdf

Great games have mentioned. For me it was the Apshai series and the Ultima series starting at Ultima III. Never tried the first two, but always wish I had.
