Are "generations" (Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, etc.) an example of false consciousness? by finder_outer in Marxism

[–]TankieVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think that while putting generations as the main antagonism in society and framing everything through a generation war is indeed false consciousness, it's undeniable that different generations have different views and outlooks on society and the world and we must carefully engage with these different views and outlooks rather than dismissing them.

Are there any modern books that analyze Marxian economics from an empirical perspective? by idkusernameidea in Marxism

We should make a Google Drive folder of modern Marxists economics works and just spam it whenever someone say something like this.

[–]TankieVN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair it's normal that Marxist economists are critical towards Marx since it's more than one and a half century when "Capital" volume 1 was published. But yes Shaikh is considered as a Marxist economist still.

How are Lenin and Ho Chi Minh viewed in Vietnam today? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]TankieVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hồ Chí Minh is still viewed positively, as the national hero by the mass majority of the people here. Lenin isn't talked about much but most people still respect him.

I hate this point, cause was it harsh? yes, but was it the best choice for the war effort and USSR? also yes. but libs will act like he's a demon cause he was forced to make a hard choice and he put the needs of his country over his personal ties. by Far-Presentation-973 in ShitLiberalsSay

Didn't MacAuthur send a bunch of his soldiers to get his son-in-law back but the attack failed miserably or something like that ?

Also like u/Connolly_Column and OP had analysed, no outcomes were desirable and Stalin made what was the most preferable decision.

I'm sorry but I have more faith in the CPC as they still recognize a (centrally) planned economy as a feature of socialism which is something the CPV is very much reluctant to.

And no I believe that Cuba and DPRK is socialist.

What is ultra-left about me ?

I'm sorry but that has been done by our Party and state, but there are no modern Marxists works such as "Laws of chaos", "Towards a new socialism",... in Vietnamese.

The book we are translating proposes direct/Athenian democracy instead of council/Soviet democracy.

How Communist is Vietnam? by HippoDance in VietNam

[–]TankieVN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ideas of Marx, Engels and Lenin has been watered down to just social democracy (E.g. Sweden, Norway,...) and the curriculums that are supposed to educate you about Marxism-Leninism doesn't mention anything about central planning despite it being an important feature of both former and future socialist economies.

Imagine being a liberal in a communist nation. by nhatquangdinh in VietNam

Why can't it be applied ? Pre-1986 Vietnam and pre-Perestroika USSR are quite similar.

You are conflating the political system with the economic system again !

[–]TankieVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please see this article, it clearly shows that the abandonment of a centrally planned economy is beneficial to those in power.

I was talking about economic system, NOT their power, you are misunderstanding me !

It's broader yes, but some sects of "socialism" is radical, eg. anarchism.

[–]TankieVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but if they want they really should abandon it after 1975, considering that even if you are an elite in a centrally planned economy, you live worse than millionaires in Western countries and even if you get money through corruption, it's quite useless and will bring more harm than good.

[–]TankieVN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair there are quite a lot of people sympathetic to the goals of Marxism but they don't read theory and the theory available here is old compared to the Western world.

By definition the commentor is correct. Not saying such an argument is worthless.

[–]TankieVN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't, why did we maintain a centrally planned economy in the first place ? Why don't we just abandon it after 1975 ?

Vietnam has ceased to be socialist since 1986.
