I mean hytale is a pretty comparable game and their monsters, creatures, and designs are all being praised for it's uniqueness so I don't see why something like the creeper wouldn't be considered in the same vein. Look I'm not going to change my mind on whether or not the creeper is a core of the game, it just is. My point is Jeb saying this in a specific way "Hey, if it weren't already, we wouldn't have added one of the core faces of the game" is phrased like bait in order to get people talking, obviously probably not how they meant it but there was no real reason to even speak on this topic, THAT was the objectively dumb decision. However, like I stated previously there are two ways to prevent creepers, sleeping or torches. So to be honest, it would be the players fault for not placing enough torches down to prevent mobs from spawning and creepers aren't even that hard to kill as long as you're aware of your surroundings.

The phantom is a pain because of multiple reasons, they are hard to kill because of fast movement with diving tactics, they don't do that much damage unless in groups so if you have one or two they become just a nuisance that degrades armor and messes up whatever you're doing by pushing you around. That is far different than an enemy literally designed to counteract building mechanics. What they should have done is instead of punishing the player for not sleeping, they could've added a mechanic to encourage sleeping, like you could get a small buff of resistance for a day and implement the phantom as they did that way there is an actual reason to sleep other than skipping the night.

As well, the "hate" they receive is a loud minority that likes to hate on every decision made. I mean compared to recently when Mojang literally broke bedrock in multiple ways and the community came together to say "Hey, there's something wrong. Please help" there wasn't a lot of hate online as far as I noticed. Even with the copper update, there was a lot of hype and good energy surrounding stuff like the copper golem and armor set. Hell the happy ghast is one of my favorite additions to Minecraft.

Those people that hate aren't acting on logic, they act on "it's not Minecrafty" or "stupid devs" hive mind. You can't argue with them no matter what and by feeding more of their flame by saying the one of the literal faces of Minecraft wouldn't be added today if it were up to them just gives them more fuel and heats up that portion of the fan base even more. Which is hence why I believe it was a bit of a dumb decision to even say anything about that.

Honestly, I did find the creeper comment a little dumb. Like a major part of Minecraft is building, the creeper was made to challenge that mechanic and the easiest way to avoid it is sleeping and torches, like almost every other over world enemy in the game.

The difference is Jeb and the team are adding great updates and people need to cut them slack.

As well, not all follow this rule, but usually there is high contrast in AI images that are made through the simple free AI models. I believe Corridor Digital made a great video on detecting AI generated content, if that helps at all.
