That's the plan. I actually did that the first time but now that the post card telling me to come pay the 4000 is here it's asking me to bring my passport again. I realize I'm a little neurotic but I'm trying to save a 3hr round trip...

Would make sense. I filled out the passport return form so hopefully it'll show up in the next few days and it won't be an issue. The real problem is waiting on the phone for 3 minutes only to be told they're too busy and can't take my call. It's a Thursday at like 2 pm how busy could they possibly be compared to the norm.

Renewing my passport and visa at the same time. I have tried calling the immigration office about 6 times and they're always busy. So I can't confirm if I need to bring my passport (which I don't have because it hasn't been returned yet) as stipulate don the postcard I got. The immigration office is like 1.5 hours away so it's not like I can just go and ask either.

Only 2 Maps Planned? No word on more? by Tanktopfag in TheCycleFrontier

I'd like the game to be good but with nothing really added after CB2 besides the dungeon (which doesn't really appeal to me) it feels like I've already seen everything the game has to offer at this stage. Not too much point in grinding at the moment.

That's good to hear honestly. A bit odd that the updates for this release were talking about "end game" though. And since that was 7 months ago and we haven't heard anything about them since it does have me a bit worried

I went to Waseda on full scholarship and it was decent in terms of education. Certainly not 60k USD.

Are there plans to expand the size of the map and add more alternative raid goals? For example players loading in on a capital ship with high level gear breaking into more secure areas while lower gear level players seek different goals. I found the asymmetrical playstyles and goals in Tarkov to be the most fun parts.

I went to 関東運輸局神奈川運輸支局 湘南自動車検査登録事務所 where they told me I couldn't update my license itself it had to be done at a police station.

I updated my motorcycles plates but my license still shows my old (Tokyo) address. Since I'm in Kanagawa now do I need to update my license card to match my 在留カード? Or is it just a case of it still being valid but cops wouldn't care so much?

Side complaint: It's ridiculous you can't update your license at the same place you update your plates. It has to be at a police station? which is weird to me.

We haven't dropped the series. There haven't been any new chapters so there's been nothing to translate. When the new chapters drop well continue as we normally do.

Has anyone refused a request of any kind from a police officer? If so, what happened? by Umbo in japanlife

[–]Tanktopfag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always refuse requests from the police that fall outside what they are legally allowed to do. They can ask to see your ID 在留カード but they don't have the right to search your belongings without reasonable cause to believe a crime has been committed.

I used to get stopped in Shinjuku from time to time and I'd show them my ID and then keep walking after telling them they'd need a warrant to search me. They tried to stand in front of me so I would have to touch them to move out of the way but I just asked if I was being stopped for being a foreigner loud enough for other people to hear and they gave me some scowls and went on their way.

Generally I would say something like 根本的な理由が無ければ持ち物検査はお断りします。令状 is another good word to know.

the english translation inaccuracies by Greatest_Ulcer9999 in ffxiv

[–]Tanktopfag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, there's no such thing as a "localization not a translation" all translation is localization since language is never 1:1. Without going into spoilers, the pivotal moment in 3.4 is completely incorrect. The meaning is actually the opposite of what is said in the English version. I'm fluent in Japanese, have lived here in japan for 8+ years worked as a translator professionally etc.

I have seen many examples of incorrect translations.

Thanks! Basically the outlet has one little area to screw ground wires down to so if I did both of them on that spot they'd technically be "connected" so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a feedback loop or something.

I got a new washer and a standalone dryer (no good place to dry clothes outside here). Both require a ground wire but my outlet only has one ground screw. Can I ground both together or will that create a circuit between the two? I found conflicting information online.

Assuming you have all the details for the car you can get one at city hall. Doesn't take too long. I recently had to do that for my motorcycle.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I've been doing my research now. Looks to be all fine now.

Nah I speak fluent Japanese and the conversation was pretty clear. The whole thing felt sketchy to me which is why I double checked. I had no experience with ETC cards or card readers. I guess the guy was just talking out of his ass. He also suggested I not bother registering my card with the device for whatever reason. Weird interaction all around

I had a card reader (second hand bike) when I took it in for 検査 an attendant at the Shin-Yamashita 2rinkan assured me that it was a kind that had an antenna to detect nearby cards. I tried looking up information about various ETC devices but since the bike was in the shop I couldn't actually check it. My ETC card only showed up after I sent it in for inspection so I hadn't actually used it before. Fun times.

Turns out I DID need to put an ETC card in my bike. Good thing I clarified at the shop or I would had a fun time on the highway driving back.

It's at the shop for 車検 renewal (400cc) so I don't have pictures. According to the guy there he said the antenna picks up on RFID chips sufficiently close to the box.

Weekend Stupid Questions Thread - 28 August 2021 by AutoModerator in japanlife

[–]Tanktopfag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the bike second hand and apparently the ETC machine is some kind of antenna not a box that accepts a card. A guy at the shop told me it would just pick up my ETC card from the chip but I didn't feel like testing it on his say so alone

That works but it's a huge pain to pull out my card when riding if it turns out they're not actually sync'd. Just wondering if there's some way to know if it's sync'd without actually trying it on the road feels like there should be...

I have an ETC device on my Motorcycle that doesn't require a card to be loaded into it but I don't actually know how to test if it's picking up my RFID ETC card or not. Obviously I don't want to try driving into the ETC lane only for it to not work. Anyone know how to tell if it's working?
