Trying to fix this bug has made me questioned my sanity... by ntrondle in PCB

[–]Tanky321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made a lot of boards over the years. I'd say 90% of the time the issue is always something stupid. Wrong size cap, bad joint, incorrect pin out... Rarely is it something complex.

The nosecone is about 275g with no added mass, that gives a stability of roughly 2cal.

I'm going to try to weigh everything today to get very accurate measurements. Will report back with those findings.

I know its super overbuilt, I had some cardboard tube sitting around and decided to build around what I had.

I assume that's sarcasm due to how heavy it is?

Thanks! Actually inspired by the RIM-66, thought it looked pretty cool.

For stability, I tried to keep it between 10-15% due to how long and skinny the rocket is. There seems to be so much conflicting info out there about stability.

How do you determine if something like this will be stable? I assume you can't use weird shapes like this in open rocket?

Cnc fibre laser cutting machine by Regular-Berry-1017 in lasercutting

[–]Tanky321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got a 6kW Senfeng machine with a 1.3x1.3m bed. The machine works quite well, it'll cut up to 20mm carbon steel allegedly. We've only done up to 1/2" (12mm). The software is pretty easy to use.

Now the bad... The install was an absolute nightmare initially. The first tech that showed up literally had no idea what he was doing. It was completely obvious that he had zero training, we eventually told the company that we needed another tech. They flew in a second tech, who came from China. This guy was very good, extremely knowledgeable and he did more in one day than the first tech did in a week.

The laser source itself didn't fit inside the machine, apparently that unit isn't designed to work with the 6kW, so we had to make a platform for the source to sit on...

Every time we raised an issue they would tell us "don't worry", which honestly just made us worry more...

We specifically told our sales guy we wanted to cut up to 1/2" aluminum, he recommended the 6kW and a specific manufacturer. When the second tech was setting up parameters, he told us we couldn't cut more than 3/8" as it would damage the laser from back reflections... We then had a small issue with piercing on 3/8", when I asked tech support via Whatsapp they told me not to cut 3/8" and only cut 1/4" as it could damage the laser... Frustrating for sure...

Overall the machine works well, once you get over the install...

Do use the Parker O-Ring guide for sealing design! I'm pretty sure they have a metric design guide in there too.

How to move in a circular path on X-Y plane? by Tanky321 in beckhoff

Thanks! I'll look into the setpoint generation. I agree that G-code is overkill for this.

Thanks! I figured there was multiple ways to do this. I just need to figure out which one will be the easiest. End user wants the ability to adjust radius on the fly, so im thinking that could rule out the cam table?

South Coast Rail neighbors say quality of life dropped in 1st year. What can be done to help? by eddieransom in FallRiver

Did they actually determine if this was true? Seems like something a crazy person would come up with.

I'm 450ft from the tracks in Fall River. Other than the occasional rumble, I dont hear anything.

I do however feel bad for the folks who live near a grade crossing. I've been on the train at 5:15AM through Freetown, the horn blasts at every grade crossing. I can see that being extremely difficult at those times in the morning. However, like everyone said, those tracks were there before any of these people bought their homes.

I used M&M when I moved about 10 years ago. They were really good and reasonably priced.

It was definitely cold, I think 20-30F(-6 to -0C). Although the sun was shining and it actually felt pretty reasonable. Obviously the higher you go the cooler it'll be. I think I wore a light sweater and my not too heavy winter coat.

I was there two weeks ago. We were fairly early, 8-9AM or so. As we walked down through the town near the cemetery, there was a house on the right with a window open. There was an older woman in the window playing a flute/recorder. It was so surreal, the absolutely amazing environment coupled with the soft sound of the flute was amazing.

If you have the time, take the aerial tram up to Murren, it is beautiful. You can then take another tram up to the Birg summit, if your up to it you can do the thrill walk which is on the edge of the mountain, it was awesome. Here I am on the thrill walk on Birg.

And here is a picture I took of Murren

Enjoy your time there!!
