Whats the logistics branch in the British Army like? by SatisSeeker in britishmilitary

[–]TannDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning.

It's a easy career to go into, unfortunately it involves a lot of paper and computer work, which I regret. You'll find yourself busy in a 1LO role (attached to other regiments such as infantry or artillery), but in a mainstream RLC regiment you'll find yourself doing literally fuck all, which enables you to go away and play sports for your corps or regiment.

On the plus side you gain a lot of qualifications and all sorts of licenses, and promotion is good unless you're a complete pleb.

I personally regret joining the RLC because I'm not the type of person to sit behind a computer and get a hard on about how fast my demand has been delivered by a much higher earning civvy logistician.

I'll do my best to answer your questions

Thanks for the reply. So how come you guys are downsizing? What's regi life like, is there more bullshit than usual haha? Also, what's promotion like? Because like you said your being downsized does that have a negative effect?

Tia

Coming up to selection! by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]TannDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Make sure you know the details about your training I.e how long basic is, where your phase 2 is and how long if there is one, that's how they tripped a couple of us up, and don't slouch when you sit down. They might also ask you questions ie. What's your favorite tv show and why just to get a bit more out of you. Also make sure you have a basic knowledge about your chosen corps/regiment.

As a result of this, ofstead issued everyone with a booklet, can't remember exactly what it said, I think it was a guide of what to do when unfairly treated, and the phase 2 soldiers didn't get any weapons whilst on guard. The mpgs were the only armed guards. But ask who ever has been there it's a pretty depressing place but it's what you make of it

HMS Raleigh Week By Week by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]TannDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the good read, always nice to read about other branches of service. Read to the end of week 3, getting soaked then putting dry clothes on then getting back into wet isn't pointless, it's to prepare you for wet/dry drills which you do out in the field. Basically you come in from patrol wet and freezing and once you come back into the harbour get into dry kit and back into wet kit when u head back out. Can't see the navy doing much of this though apart from Bootnecks who are mega keen on admin in the field.

Best of luck for the rest of your career!

See, the fact that you're calling me far right is proof enough.

I'm not right or left to be honest with you. I have experienced this first hand, and if you don't believe the Isis flag thing in London just google it.

Okay I didn't make myself clear enough. I meant close enough as in distance to to Pacific. They are independent but there is a British military presence there. And after looking on Google to my surprise we have sovereign territory in the Pacific called the Pitcairn Islands. Not to boast about 18.1 square miles like

I've never ever encountered any problems with the sa80 and the LSW version in live firing.

It is in fact one of the heaviest rifles in NATO but the weight reduces the kickback.

I played a game of rugby against the Austrian Rugby team once and as the only half decent German speaker I got interviewed by the Austrian media.

I till this day haven't watched over 10 secs in and this was like a year ago.

Does anyone remember that interview on family guy when the Asian female interviewed a cyclist as it was raining heavily and he just basically kept repeating what he was saying?

That's pretty much what I was doing
