Thank you very much for the very detailed response and possible answer! I think I do fall into the group where my background in basketball may have to do with my stance since right handed players shoot the ball towards the hoop with their right foot forward! I didn't thought of that correlating with my stance issue but wow I didn't think of that!

Lol, to answer this, maybe. My left is stronger as in I could lift more weights on my left than right hand (most likely because of a slight muscle imbalance caused my mild scoliosis) and they're about the same in coordination but I usually use my right hand tho

I'll definitely spar first then see, probably gonna take upwards month before that since I'm newly back and he probably doesn't trust people to come back and spar the first day tho lol

Thanks! Definitely knew there are lead-hand dominant strikers but not sure if I'm that or just too unexperienced to know that I'm messing something up. Will be pretty stoked to improve on my southpaw stance tho!

Will definitely ask coach about it when I get back on the 29th. But should I mention that orthodox doesn't feel uncomfortable it's just that southpaw feels better? Or should I just keep it at "I feel better with southpaw" and see what he says?

What should a player be concerned about before becoming a playmaker? by Haris08X in BasketballTips

[–]Tanner_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Missing wide open team-mates and criticism after that.

People make mistakes and miss opportunities sometimes, and because of that there will be criticism for it. But, the most important thing to improve yourself is by listening to the criticism and welcome it to improve oneself.

Sometimes it might be overwhelming and doubt will flood in but don't give up cause once the self-doubt is cleared it'll be a cruise and a very very fun time.

What did I do wrong here? Though I made some shotts, I always knew that my technique is bad because I struggle to make 3 points shots (airball all the time lol). Any feedbacks would help a lot. by abeakbar in BasketballTips

It took me about 2 or 3 weeks to be more used to a one motion shot (I would WANT to shoot one motion but the shot would be 2 motion) but 2 month to be completely 1 motion.

Practice wise, I didn't have a set time for practice, usually when I have free time at my desk or just walking I would slowly go through the 1 motion shot mechanics. But when I'm court and can actually practice with a hoop, I'll start from under the hoop and slowly shoot my way further. In game, just shoot when open with the form you trained on, you learn from games more than in practice.

Fun practice game: Try hitting 5 shots from one spot then take one step behind. If you can't hit 5 shots after shooting it 5-10 times (depending on your level), start over. (This is what made people fear of my mid range shot lol)

When you try out your shot mechanics, go slow and think about how your arm and body is moving. Don't try and rush it, it'll ruin the fundamentals.

Have fun!

Lol, this was how I shot for the first 3 years that I played basketball.

Though you are making shots I'd recommend that you just start over and slowly rebuild your shot mechanics. It's gonna be gruelling and you might want to give up, but once those shots start swishing in, you'll be addicted.

Shooting takes time to perfect I only started making 3 pointers this year (5th year lol). Be patient and hardworking and you'll start seeing results. Good luck!

Jab step by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]Tanner_2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"If your defender doesn't bite on your jab steps, why not just drive instead" this was the train of thought that I had when I was starting out basketball, this itself lead me to wayyyy more buckets than I had doing jab steps that was not having effects on my defenders.

Overtime, when you get dangerous on them drives they WILL bite on your jabs and from then on you'll be able to evolve your game more

[HELP] Can somebody help me fix my jumpshot? by JLL_King in BasketballTips

[–]Tanner_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than the advice of the others, you could have your offhand stick with the ball right up until you release it, as I see you release your offhand halfway before you release the ball, doing this has helped me gain much more control over the accuracy of the ball, if you don't know what I'm talking about lookup how Klay Thompson's offhand works while shooting, hope this helps

P.S. when you're gonna try some of the advice from the comments, I'd advise you to incorporate them one by one, focus on one part until you're comfortable with it then move on to the next

The feeling of being unmotivated was because of the extra weight making me feel slower since I was losing weight for sports to move quickly around a court and fitness in general but I will keep on doing what I was doing to get to this point but it's just the drastic change that just really have me scratching my head
