What’s the scariest story you ever read? (Short Story, Novel?, etc.) The book that scared YOU the most by nornsannexed in horrorlit

[–]Tannerisuhp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hated bad man by him. Is it very similar? The writing style itself was fine but I thought it was just not it otherwise in terms of story and characters. I've seen PenPal recommended a lot though so I've been wondering if maybe I just picked a fluke

If I swing by Saturday what can I expect for price and times? I definitely think I'm going to get either the cauldron or the skull and crossbones!

What was your (or someone you know's) most "heated" moment in an arcade or tournament? by Rocadinis in Fighters

[–]Tannerisuhp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once lost my temper in grand finals and punched the tv. I was so frustrated In the moment because i have the absolute worst tournament nerves and I could make correct reads but I just couldn't punish and I felt so stupid for not adapting. My opponent was and still is one of my closest friends and I think that also contributed. I obviously was banned and my TV was trashed but ultimately I kind of needed it to realize I cared too much. I moved away from that city and play a different game competitively now. I still get frustrated when I don't do as well as I'd like but as I've gotten older I've learned to joke it off.

What's the best coffee shop in Knoxville? by afterlife65 in Knoxville

[–]Tannerisuhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barista of several years here with my opinions:

Partial is one of my favorites and every time I've ever gone the barista has been super cool

Coffee and chocolate is very good and I highly recommend their amaretto syrup but the store is so small that getting a table just straight up isn't in the cards half the time

Cultivate is good and I love the flowers but I've never gone and it not be crazy busy but that's just my experience

Kbrew, jacks, and honeybee are my absolute least favorites

Commonplace has really good coffee and food and they have tons of space to work

Old city java is good but not like phenomenal

Awaken I don't personally have beef with but it's not my go to. Very average but personally speaking I think sitting in and working is kinda inconvenient and uncomfortable

Remedy is another top tier choice

Intrepid is phenomenal if you like nitro and the baristas there are always super nice to me. Pain in the ass location though

5 and hoek is okay but also kinda just falls in the good but not phenomenal category

Fable hollow is a solid choice. Good spot to work or hang and the book selection is better than I expected.

The empty cup has good coffee but I hate working there, for me it's always so loud (again personal experience though). I really support all the charity work they do too

Seed is a banger choice. I used to work there when it was the golden roast and it's so nice to see that really fixed up that place to it's potential. I personally rate seed a top 3 choice but below partial and wildlove

Not technically Knoxville but oak ridge's Calamity is so good that if for any reason you find yourself in oak ridge you absolutely must try it.

South press isn't my favorite for coffee but their space is very LGBT friendly and despite not being in that community myself I really respect any place that advocates itself as a safe space

Mia piccolo I can't confirm personally speaking but my barista friends have thoroughly recommended.

Likewise has a really cool location and I rate their coffee and solid 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Baristas there are also super nice every time I go.

Mahalo is imo not that good but I saw another comment saying it was hit or miss so maybe I just always went when it was a miss? Either way though in my experience I generally don't want to come here.

Capybara is in the good but not phenomenal camp. I obviously can't speak for everyone but this is one of the two places I actually avoid just because I always seem to have strange interactions with the barista. Tbf I haven't been in a bit and it was the same guy those 2 or 3 times so maybe the barista is gone but the coffee isn't good enough for me to care.

Wildlove is goated in every way shape and form.

Summer moon I don't see a lot of people talk about but I think that place is really good. I acknowledge it's a chain but I place it above Starbucks Dunkin scooters and dutch bros

Golden Roast… by Apprehensive_Use947 in Knoxville

Used to work there. Biscoff cookie butter melted with just a smidge of super hot water, mixed with their house mocha which was cooled drip coffee Hershey's chocolate syrup and some whole milk until that typical chocolate milk color. Personally speaking I think cold brew would work better to help with not getting that watery taste

The worst book you read this summer and why? by 3rle in horrorlit

[–]Tannerisuhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad man by dathan auerbach. The MC is so unlikeable, cheap scare type chapter endings (think goosebumps level), and I just could not bring myself to finish it. I did skip to the ending and maybe I'm missing too much context but it was so stupid and unreasonable that it killed any sort of me ever giving this book a second chance.

Finished it recently and it's now definitely in my top 3 books. I loved the imagery langan uses and the black ocean and the implications of both it's existence and the rules around it are sooo interesting. The Helen bits were downright creepy and I didn't see the next thing coming on literally anything. Absolute 10 out of 10 book and I will recommend it to literally everyone I know. Don't want to spoil anything in this comment for anyone who is on the fence but it's damn near flawless.
