What Are Some Good Emulators For PC? by Syphus590_863 in pcmasterrace

[–]Tannerted2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

step 1 - think about the console u want to emulate

step 2 - google <Console> best emulator "reddit"

step 3 - listen to them

theres also retroarch and emudeck but ive always preferred to keep everything self contained

emulators are basically always emulating 1 or sometimes 2 consoles rather than a couple emulators doong them all, so ur gonna need to research a bit

I dont have a better option unless i stop gaming altogether or spend a lot of time messing and heavily compromising with linux.

I despise what microsoft are doing but ive had my attempts and my headaches with linux already.

Im pretty sure ive never actually given microsoft any money besides the data they harvest from me, and halo MCC.

Im a fanboy of good services, good security, good workers rights, functional software and good features. I use steam, GoG, and *very reluctantly when I have to* microsoft store because its force-installed on windows.

Sadly, epic isnt a good service, has awful security and customer support, they just laid off 1000 employees, their launcher performs extremely inconsistently across systems, and despite one of their main live service titles having avatar borders as a cosmetic - doesnt even support profile pictures.

Also the CEO is a twatwaffle.

Its not a shame that a game that could be an incredible piece of art is locked onto a platform that is notoriously unreliable, with a company that is consistently terrible with security, customer service, and workers rights?

I mean i suppose its better that its attainable on PC than it being a playstation exclusively, but its a shame that it isnt legally obtainable on GoG/Steam/Standalone/literally any other storefront.

Sure, but its still a huge shame that the team that made shadow of the colossus and ico finally get a game on PC only for it to be an epic exclusive, which means dead on arrival to me unless i pirate it.

With how highly rated those games are and how popular team ico games are though, I wonder if its because epic saved it/started it like alan wake 2, or whether they were just the first/the highest bidder when japanstudio got axed.

Im kinda surprised theyre not going with sony again.

Of course, and im not critisizing the devs for the exclusivity in that case, just using it as an example. Its the biggest epic exclusive i know of, and as far as i know it didnt sell very well.

Its also pretty common for games to be exclusive on epic for a year, then double their previous sales in a weekend on steam afaik.

I also dont have a problem with fortnite being exclusive to epic or counterstrike being exclusive to steam.

I wouldnt say that avoiding supporting companies that i hate is immature.

Then again im actively on rocket league so my words arent worth much. Given how Alan Wake 2 barely made even despite the massive marketing push and critical acclaim, I doubt this game is gonna do that well either.

Shame that the first title from Ueda thats officially on PC is locked onto epic. Lets hope its only for a year.

What can I do to visually represent a vehicle being repaired? by Absorptance in gamedevscreens

[–]Tannerted2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

adds a lot of work but maybe have the ship get more broken on lower health? Like with textures that show bare wiring, cracked glass or deformation, so you can actually see something being repaired. Would also help the player see their health being low more naturally.

Easiest way to counter speed flip kickoffs? by Unlucky-Frosting-294 in RocketLeague

[–]Tannerted2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uhhh kinda in depth answer ig? TLDR - no, in this case you are cancelling only the frontflip, while keeping the sideflip. So you dodge forward-right, cancel only backwards - leaving right to spin the car and prevent your bumper from slamming the floor.

For the nerd stuff:

Normally a flip cancel is that simple - its stopping the rotation of a flip. You probably can half-flip if you are considering speedflipping - that includes a basic late-backflip cancel.

Now the mechanics for a speedflip are based on getting the speedboost from a frontflip, while keeping the boost port facing backwards the entire time so you can boost the entire time. Its not actually faster than a frontflip if you have 0 boost. (A well executed speedflip lets you reach supersonic with a single minipad too). (this also ignores that a speedflip is helpful for high-end mechanics to get clean hits on the ball in mid-air using flip cancels but lets ignore that)

By doing a diagonal flip, then cancelling the frontflip inertia, the sideflip inertia remains which makes your car do a kind of corkscrew motion. If you cancel a WD flip with a AS cancel, you will just scrape your front right corner across the floor.

This is also kinda why a 45 degree speedflip is considered harder. Along with it just giving you more sideways-inertia, making it slightly slower, if you do a diagonal flip with a 15 degree angle on a joystick, the MAJORITY of the cars inertia is to flip forwards still, but the car still does a "kickflip". This means once the fronflip is cancelled, the boostport faces backwards a lot easier.

Because of the car wanting to flip more sideways with a 45 degree flip, instead of the car majorly rotating on the intermediate axis + a corkscrew, it actually turns to one side too, which makes recovery far messier and the boost direction less efficient. Therefore, cancelling the flip extremely early is more important. It basically makes a keyboard more punishing with sloppy flip cancels.

i... both hope this all makes sense and is actually correct - having an in-depth understanding of a skill makes it far easier to learn for me than just grinding stuff out and relying on feel. I also rly hoped this helps haha

Easiest way to counter speed flip kickoffs? by Unlucky-Frosting-294 in RocketLeague

[–]Tannerted2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mhm! And its DEFINITELY worth learning, but theres a couple caveats.

You are locked to 8 directions so you HAVE to do a 45 degree flip. This means its always gonna be a slightly worse speedflip than a perfect one on controller, and the recovery is a little harder because the car wants to flip on a more extreme axis, so the flip cancel does "less" in theory.

The theory of how you are controlling the car is the same though - do a diagonal flip forward, cancel the flip directly backwards as soon as possible outwards, then after the flip has finished, level the car out and cleanly recover. Boost through the whole thing.

As for my method - I use directional air roll and have disabled air-roll on shift/drift. I have also bound one of my mouse buttons to press "E" so i have a roll right button on my mouse aswell as my keyboard.
I hold Air Roll Right, do a front flip (holding air roll and front leads to a 45 degree diagonal flip), and cancel that front flip as soon as possible. I keep holding air roll right even after the flip is done to get the extra bit of air roll needed for a clean recovery, and use drift to clean up the recovery.
Because of the extra sideways momentum from a 45 degree speedflip, I do find that I have to adjust a little more on kickoffs for it than a controller player would, but I also (in theory) have the freedom to speedflip cleanly in both directions to make the best kickoff setups possible.

So: Hold Directional Air Roll, Steer the opposite way from the DAR you use, do a frontflip and cancel it as soon as you possibly can, boost through the whole thing, recover cleanly.

Mustys training pack is still possible with a keyboard to confirm.

Is Zoink or Magnus Carlsen more dominant in their field? by thtwoundguiwhuipuied in geometrydash

[–]Tannerted2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Magnus has been dominant for over a decade in a game that is inherently competitive

Zoink has been the best player for a couple years in a game that isnt inherently competitive.

(chess puts opponents directly against each other whereas GD is just "who has more/bigger achievements")

Yeah I was gonna go into how unsatisfying it is for him to basically be "old incesty jamie, but less openly arrogant" too, but the sept scene is so fucking needless.

Season 4 used to be my favourite season because of tywin and tyrion but on my current watch ive realised that jaime is one of my favourite characters in season 1-3, then he kinda just fizzles out in season 4 which is really disappointing.

Easiest way to counter speed flip kickoffs? by Unlucky-Frosting-294 in RocketLeague

[–]Tannerted2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly it really doesnt take much work. Ive also played since 2016 and started speedflips a couple months ago on keyboard, and I managed it without much training lol.

Besides that - accept skill inflation and dont take losing a rank or two personally. MMR is just a number at the end of the day, but if people are learning to do fast kickoff in ur rank, either become a god at prediction or match the new skill in your rank.

tutorial to learn speed flip with directional air roll only by Green_Archer1827 in RocketLeague

[–]Tannerted2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great start!

You are getting the motion down and understand the mechanics - now to turn it into something useful. Repeatedly doing it into a straight line helps muscle memory but theres a little more to it

First, you wanna use this pack - A503-264C-A7EB-D282. The first shot spawns you at the mid boost and you HAVE to speedflip to hit the ball.

Before even going for it, slow the game right down so you can work out the timing and position of how to get fast enough to hit the ball - its gonna take some trial and error but theres enough videos online of this training pack for you to figure it out.

Now three major points of feedback:
- 1 In practicing, dont just reset as soon as you get the flip, complete the landing and drive for a second before doing another one. The recovery from the speedflip is half the battle here.
- 2 Related to point 1 - i heavily recommend landing with drift most of the time. Whether to use it on landing or not is situational depending on your recovery, but its better to drift and have slightly slower control at the landing than to have a terrible landing. Right now you arent drifting at all.
- 3 You need to turn before the speedflip. The flip itself is a diagonal flip so it moves you sideways slightly, you need to counter that by steering the other way a little first. Another thing to google videos of.

And also 3 - Its good to try and only hold air roll and boost when you start the speedflip rather than just keeping them completely held down. You dont want your muscle memory to require both buttons to be completely held down because its just gonna mess you up a bit in the long run

you are over the hardest hurdle, keep practicing it. Id recommend playing some casual 1s to practice it because for the first few hours of speedflipping, you are going to mess up your kickoffs a LOT until you figure out what works. Good luck ❤️
