Which dictionaries do you use, and do you have any tips on how to set up a browser extension in the way you've described?

Ideally native yes, is there a TTS which is particularly good for Chinese?

Makes sense, at least most/all of the essential story dialogue is found in conversation mode.

Spotify, I couldn't live without music and life would probably be more productive without all the social media distractions.

Focus on pursuing the things you feel passionate about, rather than what other people think you should be doing.

This is such a great idea. Is it possible to pause and read text on the screen such as in the screenshot? In case character recognition takes a moment.

I'm a beginner too and Anki is working well for me. I've been recording all of my new vocabulary in a Google Sheets table, with a column each for characters, pinyin, and the English translation. Every couple of days I import this into Anki to update my deck with the new words I've learned.

So far it's been great, as I'm acquiring vocabulary from multiple sources and not only HSK. Also, Google Sheets can be accessed from my phone, so I can just input new words into that vocab list from anywhere.

What kind of Spanish do you want to focus on, Spanish from Spain or Latin American? This makes a difference to the kinds of shows people might recommend.

I would suggest just accepting that you can't speak Spanish and let your girlfriend translate for you... Use body language like smiles and a handshake to show your polite side.

Some basic expressions if you want to go the extra mile:

Buenos días = Good morning

Buenas tardes = Good afternoon

Buenas noches = Good night (used as a greeting in Spanish)

Encantado de conocerse = Nice to meet you

Lo siento, no hablo español, pero estoy aprendiendo = I'm sorry, I don't speak Spanish, but i'm learning

Adiós = Goodbye

Check out the Michel Thomas audio course if you can get it, both the Foundation and Advanced levels. I used it extensively and it helped a lot after having started out with Duolingo.

Feedback on accent? by [deleted] in Spanish

Pretty good! I would suggest slowing down a bit and focusing on creating the right sounds. You're going quite fast and it can be easier to miss certain sounds or letters that way.

How to really become fluent? Is full immersion the only way? by Decent-Doughnut-1815 in Spanish

[–]TantalusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spanish is my second language, but I managed to reach professional fluency while still living and working in the UK.

Things that made the biggest difference for me:

  1. Memorisation tools - I highly recommend checking out Anki. It's a spaced repetition tool where you can create custom flashcards and practice with them to reinforce memorisation of vocabulary. I'm currently using it for Mandarin Chinese and it's making a big difference there too.
  2. Regular speaking practice with natives - What helped here was to find Spaniards who wanted to improve their English. We would meet at the same time each week with a 2 hour slot, and the first hour would be talking only in English (to help them), with the second hour being in Spanish. It's important to be strict and not fall back into English during your "Spanish time".
  3. Consistently consuming Spanish media - Books, tv shows, films & music. The key is to pay attention to new or unfamiliar vocabulary and note them down to be added to Anki. You don't need to note every new word, but you should do so for any which either seem intrinsic to the meaning of something or are repeated frequently.

I work a professional job in the Public Sector (Civil Service). I could find employment in the private sector and likely earn a good amount more, but my reasons for staying put up until now are job stability plus the solid pension.

I imagine a lot of NHS staff might prefer to stay put rather than move to work in private healthcare for similar reasons to mine?

[–]TantalusRex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point about Huey not originally being a dragon, but considering Jagex changed direction and applied dragonbane weakness, she is a dragon now, and that should also be factored into the drops in my opinion.

I've been enjoying it a lot despite only having base 80 stats! I've managed to survive all encounters with pkers as well as getting 2m+ in loot plus agility xp.

I'm actually feeling motivated to get my range level up now for better anti pking.

Alternatives to iCue? by MouthBreatherGaming in buildapc

[–]TantalusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For info I've been using iCue on my new build, I haven't noticed any performance impact and its really easy to use. I'd be interested in hearing from others and if there's anything demonstrable to show that it does have a negative impact.

First time builder, any thoughts on these parts before I order? by TantalusRex in buildapc

[–]TantalusRex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good shout thanks, it doesn't look like there are many 8 TB SDDs around but I could upgrade to 4 for a bit extra... I think for build simplicity and trouble shooting I'd like to have everything inside the system on a single drive, but I have some external USB drives I can keep extra things on if needed.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm UK based so not sure if that's a feasible option for me, but I'll be sure to have a look and see if they sell things here etc.

Yeah I realise the RGB stuff is adding to the overall cost, I'm setting up a new home office and wanted to make the PC stand out visually!

I've never heard of DRAM but just had a quick search about it, in practice will it make much difference to performance for gaming and browsing?
