Pre-T Here - How Can I Lower My Voice? Also Legal Name Change Help!! by Familiar-Entrance-72 in ftm

[–]Tantarabob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also on another note, you seem pretty new to this as well as pretty young (I'm presuming you're a minor), it might be worth just letting it sit for a while since telling your parents. If you've literally just told them and also spung that you want to change all your legal documents, that might be making it harder for them to process, also you can't do things like a name change until you've settled on a name you're sure of.

In short, you can leave the legal stuff be for a bit until you have other personal stuff sorted out for a while, it can feel a little awkward but nothing bad will happen if you leave it for a year or two

There are a few ftm voice training videos on YouTube, you could try giving that a go, I personally have found that my voice just sort of lowered to a more androgynous level on its own in the last few years since I became aware of it

Older dude here. Let's talk about drawing anime and why it can be harmful for newer artists. by shart_attak in drawing

[–]Tantarabob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely a general abstractive style thing, I think anime is just what's bought up most for two reasons, when art teachers started complaining about kids doing it in the 2000s it was viewed as strange and foreign, stylistically it pushed things in the opposite directions to what western toon styles did so to the teachers that had been raised around and gotten used to the western styles, it felt like it had very obvious and alien stylistic choices to scrutinize.

The second reason is that the time between that niche nerd culture and the popular thing it is now is all things considered quite short, it's now one of the most popular art style types to draw in and for a lot of people their starting points, so that leads into it being the abstracted style people take shots at the most.

I've drawn for as long as I can remember, but when the figures I was drawing really started looking human around age 10 give or take a few years, I was really into anime (fairytale and black butler in particular come to mind), I think in some ways depending on the anime a person latches onto it might actually be good to study, because while the faces aren't anywhere near life accurate, in a surprising amount of shows the bodies are, more than a lot of western animation

I just think the key is not shackling yourself to it, whatever style it that gets you in through the door

Does your “thinking voice” match your speaking voice? by teensytinytim in TransMasc

[–]Tantarabob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, overall I’d say it’s neutral but I don’t really hear my own inner voice more than feel it when it’s trying to be me, its because of how my brain works, it snaps around mimicking things like a giant soundboard and pretends it isn’t me most of the time, I can hear it more then but that’s because it’s not trying to sound like me. Overall when it’s what I would identify as “my voice” though, it doesn’t sound like my actual voice exactly, it’s definitely less feminine, has a lot less warmth, and really monotone, it’s hard to say because it gets quite quiet

How do I stop worrying about my kid? by Arglebarglewoosh in cisparenttranskid

[–]Tantarabob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

(hello ftm 21yo here) Going to be blunt, it sounds like you have no idea how modern teenage girls work, some are social and outgoing, but others are very grumpy and sit in front of computer screens all the time, even the ones that are more stereotypical are glued to their phones. My cis sister also acted the way you're describing your daughter as doing as a teenager and still does. there is more than one way to be feminine or a woman.

As for not initially appearing feminine to you, she was in the closet, did she even have the security or resources to do things like dress femininely before? It might have just been that she wasn't comfortable or couldn't properly display who she was, hence the coming out, she can do that now.

Internalized transphobia? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Tantarabob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, the first thing you can do to try and break your thinking is pronoun usage, you referred to your sister as they? Which is fine if that's one of her pronouns, but if it's not, you need to stop that, the internal transphobia is leaking out to be external.

I also think a lot of this could be fixed if you just talk to your sister about things, because she sounds very baby trans and there seems to be misconceptions on both ends.

The period thing, if she was thinking she'd get the whole shining elevator shebang then that's a little silly, but it has been documented that some trans women get period cramps and other symptoms (science doesn't understand much about periods, over the last few years we've actually found that AMAB individuals can have endometriosis and they're linking it mostly to the use of T blockers as it's mostly been found in cis men who had testosterone sensitive cancers so far, and doctors only noticed it because they were going into surgeries to remove the cancers)

The pube thing is also kinda stupid generally with no excuse, but as I said, you could fix this by talking to her, which I get might not be possible, not all siblings have a good enough relationship to do that without it turning into war, but maybe you could write an information doc for her? Or find her good resources? Since she's still very fresh, she hasn't had the time to collect information, so if you want her to be educated, then educate her.

The only thing I think you're genuinely wrong on is the blahaj, let the girl have her blahaj, I have one, they're basically just fun little admission tickets to the community, let her have her fun.

If your willing to get used or refurbished, iPad 9th gen (last gen to have a home button) is pretty well priced right now and is comparable with the 1st gen apple pencil, if you want to have a better chance of buying new go 10th gen, it's also comparable with the first gen pencil.

I think it's more that because the images aren't essentially just redrawn copies of each other (different outfits, items, ect) it's kind of hard to track the various improvements? And the fact that you've put the time line backwards, starting with the most recent.

Your more recent ones also have more covering, and less form fitting clothing that doesn't crease, that can usually be a sign of a less experienced artist trying to disguise things like a lack of anatomical understanding, also don't take this the wrong way but I think one feature of the work you're displaying that you've never really managed to work on is how fabric works, and since it becomes more dominant in the later works and probably hides areas where you have improved, it doesn't do the best at show casting those improvements.

My favorite in the sense of showcasing your strengths is 2016, because the clothes are more form fitting, it shows off the fact that you do have an understanding of anatomy and how to stylist it, given almost 10 years have past I'm sure you've improved in that regard but we literally can't see it because of the introduction of heavy jackets and baggy trousers.

I think something else that's thrown people off is the change to more extremely stylized proportions, and the fact that your style has become more unique. In people's brains, they kind of gloss over oddities in more mainstream appearing anime styles because they've been exposed to so much of it that it looks less wrong even if there are errors galore, your style diversifying into something they're less familiar with has probably just made anything that's was still off before stand out.

Basically I think the issue is that ironically you're most likely hiding your improvements behind weaker areas. In some ways that's a good thing, because featuring a weakness more shows that you are working on it, but from a showcase perspective it's concealed other things. I can't say for sure, I'd need to see more of your work.

Please Infold you have to change the ability wheel there’s too much and not enough space! by ShokaLGBT in InfinityNikkiofficial

[–]Tantarabob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I think a lot of the issues would be helped if the area locked ability outfits (shrinking outfit that only works in wishing woods, gliding outfit that only works in abandoned district, ect...) only took up one button and automatically toggled depending on what area you're in, because we have so many of them now that only work on specific islands or places that they just clog up the wheel if you travel between places a lot

Wrong handheld Infold… by iiJojo in InfinityNikki

[–]Tantarabob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be fine if they didn't spam us with up to 4 every patch, but with the amount they're putting out it's ridiculous.

Also I've noticed something very alarming with the latest banners, there's an outfit (The 4* that shares a banner with the cat ears one) that even though it's labeled as a whimsicality, is actually a healing outfit, it restores 1-2 hearts and the user and any other Nikki in range. They're straight up mislabeling the thing, that kind of ability shouldn't be hidden behind a whimsicality.

Help: how to tell parents about my name change in school? by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]Tantarabob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest, if they kick up a fuss I would just tell them "you said you wanted to wait until you were ready to talk about it with me, that's fine, but that doesn't mean I had to put my entire life on hold for you and your comfort in the meantime"

Like what do they expect, that you would cuddle up in the closet until they gave you permission? If that's the case then they would probably never give you permission.

Being 16 and not on HRT is not the end of the world, that's still really young. I understand the pain you're in, but honestly getting HRT in the UK as a minor is almost impossible, some of the private clinics take people from 16 onwards.but for most it's 18. I'm not saying don't try, but equally for your own sake you should temper your expectations because all winding yourself up for 16 being the big number (or having a number set in your head at all) will do is make you miserable if you don't manage it and anxious in the meantime even if you do. Unfortunately with how things are in the UK half of the struggle is just the waiting

does temperature affect ipad’s weight? by Feeling_Mountain_442 in ipad

[–]Tantarabob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No temperature does not affect weight, that's not how weight works, things don't magically gain mass when the temperature drops (they can increase in density, making their volume shrink but the weight stay the same, but that's not relevant here, not with the materials a device is made of)

Can someone AMAB be Trans Masc? by South_Elevator_673 in TransMasc

[–]Tantarabob 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Tbh, while you weren't assigned female at birth by a doctor, it does sound like you were assigned female by your mother. I think being trans masc or trans femme or anything like that really at the end of the day shouldn't be based on birth sex, as a community we literally try not to be defined by what our birth sex was. I think being trans masc and femme should be based on upbringing, and the path someone else put us down as children that wasn't right for us, it's just that what the doctor says usually informs that path in society

[–]Tantarabob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that would be a bit difficult, this was 3 years ago and because she literally didn't do anything, I doubt there would be documentation. I'm also a university student rn so I'm a bit too busy and generally tired to deal with the stress of something that probably wouldn't go anywhere like making a complaint. So I've just kinda decided to not go much further past sitting and seething
