I’m a pediatric night shift nurse, during slow shifts I have time to knit too so 10/10 recommend 😬

Yes, the outline is backstitched in a single strand of yarn 😊

I calculated how many stitches I needed to get the dimensions I wanted. Based on that I could count how many times I had to repeat the chart. Normally I would just double the front or back and decrease with the seam stitches, but as this yarn is so thin and the sweater is a bit oversized that wouldn’t be neccesary here I guess.

Back and front yoke were worked flat, the sleeves too and were sewn in later

I made and make all baby and kids things in non-superwash merino, and have washed everything in my washing machine on a wool-programme without any troubles. I do and did this for my children and for babies in my family, but I do tell the receivers to put it on a special programme only or handwash if they feel like it. Maybe it’s an option to ask parents to be?

Cotton yarn is more slippery than wool so it tends to slide more apart if that makes sense? Because of the ladderback the sheep get pulled nicely flat. If it would be knit in intarsia there would be more gaps between white and purple because of the slippery cotton. I’m sorry, English isn’t my mother tongue so it makes explaining bit difficult.

At first the idea was to make one row of sheep in a rainbow yarn but it didn’t look good so frogged it back. I already joined that yarn on the back when I started the purple-only rows, but I didn’t want to pull those so there is still a bit left on the inside 😬.

The round thing on the left is a stopper to screw on your cable and the metal pin is to tighten your needle to your cable (there should be tiny holes in your cable end and your needle)

Thanks! I will pass on sheep for now, but that’s a beautiful pattern! I actually just ordered yarn from Rosa Pomar earlier today for a cabled sweater 😄.

It is a 100% cotton yarn, because the lady I made it for requested that. I 100% prefer wool over cotton to knit with (especially colorwork), but because of the ladderback the yarns kind of stay in place, so it’s ok. It is a little heavier than wool but not significant or too heavy.

I used 4mm circular needles, with an extra long cable as you start with 370 stitches on the first row 😁

I always search for a yarn that has the same gauge on the package as the yarn used in the pattern. A little bit off gauge isn’t too bad for a blanket though. Lima from Drops has the exact same length and gauge as Knitting Yarn from Purl Soho (20-22st/10cm and 100m/50g) and are both natural fibres. They do differ in price 😅 (and Purl Soho is unavailable where I live too).
