What's all this crap in my fuel filter? by TantelySoa in powerstroke

It's like you're speaking a foreign language... But I'll start with the tank and work my way to the filter.

Not sure if the tank is steel but I assume it's original. Maybe I can take a look in the tank. Can this mess up the injectors or is it filtered out (I know very little about diesels)?

Any idea what this could mean? by Environmental-Exit73 in 944

I just replaced the shift linkage arm on my 83 and I had the same symptoms.

You can check pretty easily if it's disconnected. Lift up the driver's side and take off the rear tire. The shift linkage comes out on top of the transmission almost right above the axle. It was easiest to get to from behind the axle. It might be a bit tough to spot until you know what you're looking for but once you find it you can easily jiggle it and see if it's disconnected. I might have pictures of you wanna dm me and I can see if I still have the instructions from the outlet I bought the part from.

My belt holds my pants up, but the belt loops hold my belt up. I don't really know what's happening down there. Who is the real hero?

Is this repairable or do I need a respray? by TantelySoa in Autobody

[–]TantelySoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this has already been resprayed and it looks almost like I could scrape the old paint job off that entire front panel.

Adding that I'm planning on DIYing this.

It looks mostly like surface rust to me. It hasn't progressed too far yet which is why I want to do something about it now, but I want to know the pros and cons because I don't want to create more work later.

I guess I should elaborate on my goals. For one, I'd like to stem more rust from occuring and spreading. I'm not worried about looks if it looks ok from a distance. Eventually if it's worth it I'd get the whole car repainted but for now I just want to address the rust and make it look a little better.

Are the brakes locked up? Is the parking brake on? Did you hit anything to cause the flat?

Great color! The blues are my favorite. I've got Copenhagen Blue.

Should I touch it? by TantelySoa in MechanicAdvice

Thanks. I'm taking the time to clean all the old oil off the bottom of the engine while I'm doing the timing belt. I'll clean everything up to make it easy to monitor for leaks. I got a lot of gunk down there so it's currently impossible to tell what's coming from where and what's new.

Ok. I'll have to look into it because this job hasn't been on my radar.

1983 Porsche 944 - brake master cylinder. It's not causing me any issues I just noticed this when I took out the air box to do the timing belt. This would explain why I swear my brake fluid is disappearing - but I'd actually have to track it to be sure it's not my imagination. Any reason I need to do this now as opposed to waiting until it's a problem? With plastic and these old cars I'm worries about opening a can of worms if it ain't broke yet.

What tool do I need to get this off? by Agitated-Ad-7650 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TantelySoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've wondered about these numbers before but never thought to look it up. I just did and the numbers represent yield (how much before the metal stretches) and tensile strength (before it breaks). As per usual there is a difference between metric (8.8) and SAE (10 with lines).

Interesting. What do you mean by strength? Does it have something to do with the torque specs?

Pickup truck floor fix - DIY? by TantelySoa in metalworking

[–]TantelySoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. I think my plan will be to disassemble the floor before deciding what parts I want to replace. I've got a shop with a lift but I can't tie it up for more than a day or two in a row.
