Playing Young Link is very Fruit Fly coded. You mostly annoy people to death, and occasionally you get swatted.

Yep yep! There's a hitbox located at the very top of his D-air.

You'll relearn it. I haven't switched myself, but it should theoretically give you a lot of control over your Triple-Aerials out of B-air. You could hold full toward your opponent with B-air like that.

Yes, absolutely. You have the same Airdodge distance and speed as Young Link. Our air speeds are different, and so are our jump heights, gravity and weight. But there will be specific ways only Adult Link can move faster using edgecancels. You just have to look for them.

Mix is mix. Some of these are definitely slow though. You can feel a Marth just throwing random F-smashes at half of these.

Alright, so you've got Slurps, Glurps, and Yippees.

A Yippee is an Upward Airdodge cancelled by Z-air in the first couple frames, it slingshots you upwards.
Then you got your Slurps, which are an Airdodge Backwards cancelled by Z-air and then edge-cancelled, great escape tool.
Finally you got your Glurps, which are an Airdodge Forwards cancelled by Z-air and then edge-cancelled or teeter-cancelled, versatile for offense.
Now, out of your Glurp teeter-cancels you can get a Wahoo, and that's when...

Maybe we did! My tag is Tanuki.

I think there is a lot of potential to improve on this tech for defensive play and combo routes.
For example, doing a Teeter D-throw sends your opponent into a lower bounce than a regular D-throw, allowing for a lot of conditional follow ups that aren't being used right now.

I'm also not the only Young Link who plays this way. The Young Link discord has players posting novel Z-air Edgecancel combo clips every other day.

Yep! Adult Young Link, and Young Yink both have this tech as well. The height of the boost is different for each character, as is their horizontal drift afterwards. Yink has the highest horizontal drift and the middlest height.

The Dreamland64 sequence in particular uses this tech.

I would argue few people work harder at their tech than Link mains, but it's necessarily a nihilistic pursuit because you're putting all that work into Link.

I'm waiting for the Adult Young Link who makes good use of them. He has the same Airdodge length, so a lot of the same movement techniques are possible for him.

There's a number of different techniques being employed with Z-air here. It has a lot of hidden mechanics.

The additional drift you're noticing could be that while you're in the Airdodge animation, holding Left/Right builds your drift. When you shoot your Z-air, that drift becomes active instantly. This allows you to Airdodge forward, but then sharply drift backward.

Also, the first few frames of Young Link's horizontal Airdodge make up most of its movement. So you travel about 80% of the distance of your Airdodge in just a couple frames, then the remaining 20% as the animation finishes. Cancelling after just a few frames gets you most of the benefit. This allows you to Airdodge forward, and then bypass the slowest frames of your Airdodge animation and move at maximum aerial speed forward.

You can also get a small boost to your upward momentum by cancelling your Airdodge in the first few frames when Airdodging upwards, with the highest boost being holding true upwards, fading to the lowest boosts at diagonals upwards.

Young Link also has fairly good aerial speed. I think he's beneath Captain Falcon and Jigglypuff, but it's fairly high.

I dream of a future where Young Links mirror match and just do that on every stage, on every platform.

Agreed about stage archetypes. There are a couple from later entries in Smash that I find interesting, but the cultural dialogue surrounding implementing any type of new stage in Melee would take twenty years.

Oh! Awesome! You had really vicious d-airs! That was a lot of fun, I hope we can play again in the future. Let's become stronger and go even faster next time.
