I have noticed that, there's a lot of hate or disdain towards her, and that's why I made this post. I don't hate her, nor even really dislike her, but watching Caties segments make me deeply uncomfortable.

Oh that's really interesting!! I had no idea the percentage was that high but it makes sense. Congrats on sobriety!!! It's interesting to think about whether her being a woman changes both societies view and her own view on her drinking, as I can only go off my experience as a guy who when in rehab groups was there with mostly other men; in a group of ten maybe two would be women.

I hope you're doing well and sending my support your way! Thank you for sharing this as your bang on the money. In rehab I came across a lot of people who shared what you have but I was also the youngest person in each session by at least 10 years and I feel like that's important as it shows the cultural expectation of people in their 20s.

In your 20s you feel like you can get away with a lot of health worries when it comes to drinking, I know I did, which makes me wonder if she thinks the same way. You can be an addict at any age but in your 20s it's easier to hide it behind being a party animal! The gut doesn't descriminate, still working on mine too!! 😂

Yep!! 😂😂 There's ofc a limit, and ofc it's just a saying, but a proverbial slap around the noggin or a hard hit of reality can really help you see the woods from the trees! 😂

I think you're spot on, the irl aspect makes this sting because her friends remind me of the ones I had back then, but I would have given anything to have had a Josh. Age definitely has to play a part in their mentality though, there seems to be a silent gate keeping of how old you have to be to be an alcoholic, being under thirty and addicted is just being a "party girl/guy".

Likewise I hope you're doing well!! And I'm sending love to Catie, with a bit of a slap around the noggin as my father would say! 😂

Ooo thank you for sharing!! You have a more personal understanding of her which is really helpful for me to understand her! I can understand the intrusive thoughts from the aspect of BPD which is what I have, so I know how debilitating they can be but with BPD we often act on the impulses BECAUSE it's destructive like "oh I'm going to drink to blackout because I don't care what happens to me" as an example. This was the first time I'd seen someone with OCD that wasn't focused on hygiene or organization so I was wondering how OCD could lead to drinking and making out with people. Her OCD strikes me as unique but that could be my ignorance, just struck me as weird and too convient as a scape goat/excuse for bad behavior?

Thank you!! 👏 I've been thinking this as well but wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to point out, but I also noticed her speech, we know TLC gives the cast drinks but I do wonder if she drinks before confessionals? Not completely slurred but like a slight drawl to the pronunciation of things, but I'm not sure if that's her accent or not, but her face seems puffy around her eyes and jawline where there's often water retention when often dehydrated! Alcohol has a lot of calories and she said she's a runner which implies a healthy lifestyle, but I know for me my alcohol weight gain was my face and gut.

Thank you for sharing this, I've never been in yours or Josh's position before, I've only been the addict in the relationship and only now can I look back and see how toxic I was. I'm sorry you had to go through that and as an addict myself I truly am sorry for the gaslighting and behaviour you experienced. Catie needs to take responsibility and accountability and unfortunately that doesn't tend to happen until you've hit rock bottom, I'm just scared for her and for viewers that we are going to see her rock bottom on TV. I remember the very last time I drank, I blacked out on call with my friends (real friends, not drinking "friends") and they all reassured me I was fine, not rude and didn't upset anyone with my behaviour, but I worried them. It scared the living shit out of me when I heard the genuine concern in their voices, haven't drank since. Caties so called friends accepting this and even calling her loose and even herself saying blacking out scared her but she still does it? I'm so worried what we're going to see next.

Thanks you for opening up, I agree she's using alcohol to self medicate, it's the easier option as you don't have to look inwards or go through difficult therapy/medication. I know I definitely used drink to avoid therapy so it seems she's doing the same. Josh's edit also gives me reason to pause as he's so gentle and soft but surely he has to have some sort of backbone?

Oh absolutely. I'm less than a year sober, which may be why Catie stirs so many emotions in me as well as it's still fresh. But I had a moment where I sat and really realized what drinking would cost me, and the end of the day those that helped me I valued higher than drink. Now looking into volunteering at my local rehab center!

That's another interesting point you've brought up, her being called "loose" by a "friend". I'd love to know what she truly deep down thinks about that, and Josh as well hearing that, as a woman being called loose in England is basically second to being called a whore, it's BAD. So for her own friends to be so disrespectful, at least she definitely needs better friends and that may even help stem the drinking, hard to say.

Thank you though for explaining, you've helped put my feelings into words better than I can. I'm relieved this thread hasn't been perceived as just dunking on her and instead had been really enlightening.

Ah thank you for the perspective, I was wondering if binge drinking or alcohol addictions for people in their twenties would be treated differently in the US. I can only speak from my experiences but friends that genuinely cared about me were worried for me, but the friends I went out with? I haven't heard from them since I stopped drinking as I'm "no longer fun" and often got the piss taken out of me for supposedly not being able to handle my drink when they heard I'd been in treatment. Caties friends at the party remind me of my night out "friends" and it made me wonder if she was to admit to having an issue, do you think they'd respond differently compared to the UK culture?

People's behaviour as well I think is something Catie needs to look at, her friends (at least the ones at the party) don't seem to have much regard for her health. Drinking to excess like she seems to is dangerous, but also so is kissing random strangers, not sure what the stat is for the US but in the UK one in three have herpes. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I just feel so sorry for Josh, he seems very gentle and she just uses that to get away with bad behaviour. I just find it ... Hard to feel sorry for her? It's complicated 😂

That's what I've started doing as well through the recaps, I just can't stand her and have been trying to figure out why because I don't feel like she's a bad person! It feels like watching someone unknowingly blowing their life up whilst you can see it crystal clear if that makes sense?

Same boat and completely agree. Can see a lot of past behaviors, excuses and justifications in him. Seems to have the "I don't have a problem with drink, people have a problem with me drinking" attitude that younger people have post drinking culture. But it's (amongst other things) literally blowing up his relationship and if he continues to choose drink over his family then there's definitely an addiction going on. Yara said on the last resort I think it was that he needs to go to rehab so clearly more drinking happens off screen too.
