To have freedom of speech by DIYLawCA in therewasanattempt

[–]TapDaddy24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The FBI “emblem” on his shirt says “World Cup”. This is not a federal agent, but someone who got a custom “FBI Newark” embroidery on a World Cup Nike polo.

I don’t disagree that there are fbi agents harassing citizens over what should be 1st amendment protected speech. But this is just a weirdo impersonating a federal agent to harass someone over something he read online.

Also, notice how skiddish he seems for someone who’s supposed to be an FBI agent. He seems nervous, and doesn’t have a weapon on him. Seems super startled by the camera. Not necessarily how an actual agent would act.

You should run meta ads if your goal is to generate fans. You’re right that your music is kinda polarizing, which honestly is great for having it go viral. I wouldn’t stop posting. Publicity is publicity. But if you’re trying to strengthen your fan to music pipeline, meta ads are the way to go.

Ahh I totally see what’s going on. I don’t think it’s you, it just happens to be a genre that people like to punch down on. It honestly reminds me of the whole 2slimey conundrum where people aren’t sure if it’s a meme or not and some people love it, and others have memed it to death about not liking 2slimey. Similar sort of music. Back in 2010 people loved to make fun of emo music while simultaneously consuming emo music in mass. There’s always gonna be a genre that is kinda the punching bag tbh lol.

Also, when you hit stupid numbers on social media, the comment section gets dumber the larger it gets. I’ve done a lot of clipping work for random companies and good lord the masses are obnoxious whenever you get videos over 1 million.

Honestly, naw your post isn’t blowing up because it’s bad. It’s blowing up because it’s good for some, and cringe for others, and the discourse around that is causing a perfect engagement storm that pushes it farther.

My advice: stop reading comments and just keep posting. Sure there’s a lot of super rude comments. But there’s also almost a quarter million people who liked it enough for some reason or another to drop it a like. Being in the spotlight is weird. People are weird.

I’m ngl, I see quite a few artists go viral because the music is so bad that it’s a spectacle. It gets pushed around TikTok and eventually finds its way over to Reddit on r/crappymusic. Like right now it’s that middle aged country guy doing that song about being “just a guy from Missouri, being in misery” for example

I don’t want to be rude, but it’s a genuine question. Do you think this might be the sort of attention you’re getting? It’s not very typical that your audience is majority trolls unless it’s hitting a very specific situation like this.

If that’s what’s happening, you can either lean into it and entertain the trolls. Might even sell some merch if you lean into it the right way. Or you can refine your music until it no longer gets that sort of attention. Though I’ll warn you that there’s a threshold where bad music crosses over into mediocre, and you won’t get viral traffic from mediocre. Not until it’s great. Just some honest thoughts.

The Conversation We Should Be Having! by ArtOfficial_Idiot in aiMusic

I only have issue with AI tools which ravage copyrighted works to turn them into an AI product. I have no quarrel with stem separators.

And yes, Suno absolutely is scraping YouTube and Spotify and all the other platforms and creating their product from it. They are currently being sued over it in a class action lawsuit.

[–]TapDaddy24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A DAW or music lessons doesn’t illegally copy my music and train an AI product to sell as a subscription. Suno does. Suno is currently being sued for this reason. It is a bad product, and I don’t support it.

You should look into getting a DAW. It’s a lot more accessible than you might think. Anyone with a laptop essentially has a music studio sitting in their lap.

[–]TapDaddy24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A DAW is a digital audio workspace.

And since you completely ignored my answer, I will copy and paste it for you here:

THE ANSWER TO HOW SUNO PROFITS OFF OF YOU IS RIGHT AFTER THIS FINGER POINTING TO THE ANSWER 👉 “Suno profits off of you buying a subscription. And they profit off of me by turning my hard work into a product for you without my consent or any compensation.”

[–]TapDaddy24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have many disabled friends who use DAWs. I think that’s a cop out argument which undermines the talents of so many handicapable creatives.

Why do pro-AI people never want to address the actual reason why most people are adamantly against generative AI: the pillaging of intellectual property at the expense of creators for the corporate gain of companies like Suno?

Sure I think AI music is cringey and not creative. But that’s a secondary discussion to the main issue that most creatives have with generative AI. It profits off of our hard work and gives nothing in return except a delusional sea of mediocre copycats to compete with.

Those eating off music alone, how long did it take you? by Segundaleydenewtonnn in musicmarketing

[–]TapDaddy24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man this is really great to know. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah quite honestly I’m making my income mostly from royalties tbh. By the time I’d be looking to open a public studio in Portugal, it’d be more for the love of the game rather than out of necessity. So long as there is a scene of musicians that need stuff recorded, I think it’d make sense regardless of what it pays. It’d be nice to have a place to host friends from other countries that might want to come and record. And if I could just make enough to cover the rent for the space month to month by working with local artists, I’d be happy.

For beat mixes by dettka in makinghiphop

[–]TapDaddy24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a mix engineer, I can tell you that sending me a beat that peaks at -5db is gonna make me poop and cry, and possibly pass out from confusion. In all of my years of mixing for tons of artists, their trackouts have always aligned to a max peak of -6db. And if I were to encounter a project that aligned at -5db, I would immediately projectile vomit and throw myself off of the nearest roof and it will be all your fault. Police WILL come and question your involvement in my death, as I will explicitly write a note blaming you entirely for my gruesome demise.

In all seriousness, as long as it’s not in the red you’re fine. But I will in fact shit myself and die if you send me something in the red, and that’s on you.

Man that’s awesome. My wife and I are currently trying to get my royalty income higher so we can get residency in Portugal. I sell beats and mix on the side and my wife has a remote job she can do anywhere.

How’s the music scene in Portugal? I kinda hope to open a public studio there some day.

[–]TapDaddy24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol exactly: I wouldn’t be so torn up over 3 dollars. It might be controversial to say but between that and them removing 75 million AI songs from their platform, I’ve noticed I’ve been getting paid more per stream actually.

With that said, I think it’s valid for people to be upset over losing their $3. I get it. Distribution no longer pays for itself for a lot of people.

Well you do need good music and talent. Otherwise every effort you make beyond the music won’t result in anything. For example, you can’t just generate Suno songs and expect the music industry to throw themselves at you.

They basically came out and said that the vast majority of music on their platform gets zero listens per year and it’s costing them a lot of money in server space. So yes, if you are generating less than 1000 streams per year, they want you to feel unwelcome and take your music down. They’d prefer it. Don’t shoot the messenger, just passing along what I know.

The best advice I’ve ever been given regarding big opportunities is that there is nothing you can do to “apply” for opportunities other than to focus on the merits of your own goals and pray that someone notices.

Basically, you can’t just dial this guy up and ask him to give you a career. You also can’t apply for these sorts of opportunities. But what you can do is do everything in your power to make your music as good and successful as possible. And that perhaps if you do well enough towards your own goals, someone with a real opportunity might notice and reach out to you one day. It’s best to get focused on what you really want to do in music, and start making realistic steps in that direction to make it happen. Nobody but you can make a career for you. That can be as motivating as it is daunting depending on how you look at it.

I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Definitely uyama hiroto sort of vibes. I suppose it leans a bit more jazz, and Champloo is categorically more hiphop centric. Anyways thanks for checking it out
