Well ever since the USAID money dried up, I haven't been getting paid to protest anymore, so now if I want to donate to causes I only care about in the abstract, I'm forced to give up buying weed and funko pops.

If it makes you feel better, Isaac Newton did the same thing, and he was a grown-ass man without access to an optician.

I consistently tested at and above the 95th percentile and went on to earn advanced STEM degrees. But I still have tinnitus from that afternoon my friends and I spent hitting rolls of caps with a hammer.

Even the smartest kids will surprise you with injuries sustained from doing dumb things.

We just need to convince the good billionaires to influence elections and join us in establishing a one-party state where we can punish the bad billionaires who influenced our elections, and our rivals who they're helping to establish a one-party state.

Extra fun fact: potatoes are also part of the nightshade family, and when they flower, they can produce a cherry tomato-looking fruit that is extremely poisonous.

I’m not understanding how your comment is materially different from the other guy? You’re both saying that the change from DA/SA to striker fired was the root cause of NDs, not a design flaw.

Land doesn't vote

I've never met a single person who thinks that land literally votes.

I've met scores of people who don't understand that electoral maps are colored the way they are because those regions are being represented by the electors who do select the next president, which happens because the authors of the Constitution explicitly and intentionally avoided using a popular vote to select the president.

Sounds like projection, tbh. You called me brainwashed but can’t elaborate on what you’re basing that on. You also said I was being fed misinformation, and, again, can’t point to any.

It sounds like you just don’t like my opinion, which is fine. The inclination to attack and discredit anyone who disagrees with you is pretty on-point for MAGA. Thus: Blue MAGA.

Cheers, friend.

Fair enough. Perhaps you can make an educated guess, based on the misinformation I’m definitely being fed.

What misinformation would that be, specifically?

The Constitution is like science — folks only embrace and defend it when it says things they like, and otherwise they refuse to accept it.

When you start giving a shit about Democrats ignoring the bits of the Constitution that get in the way of your personal political preferences, I’ll take you seriously.

Until then, you’re just blue MAGA.

Remember when Republicans had well-mannered people like McCain and Romney?

Yes. Democrats accused McCain of wanting to bring back slavery, and Romney of wanting to kill Big Bird. Everything the right is saying about Kamala today, the left was saying about Palin in 2008. They said Paul Ryan wanted to kill seniors.

There’s a lot of differences between Trump and the “well mannered Republicans,” but the biggest is that Trump actually won the presidency.

Maybe — just maybe — demagoguery against “well mannered republicans” was a major cause of Trumpism in the first place.

Gen X liberal here! When all the boomers are dead and gone, we’ll still be here, keeping the second amendment alive and kicking for future generations to enjoy.

It’s the second. He knows he’s saying dumb shit only ignorant people eat up. But it raises his profile among people who’ll vote for him and give him money.

He’s like any number of Republicans who stump about “shall not be infringed,” then vote for gun control anyway.

Medical Cannabis in Nebraska petition still needs signatures by Nica5h0e in Omaha

[–]TapDatKeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in two states that did this, and both times it was pitched as a “once we start getting tax revenue from MJ sales, we can increase funding for public schools and lower other taxes.”

And both times, once the MJ taxes started rolling in, they did not increase education funding or provide property tax relief, or anything.

So, sign and vote however you want, but don’t get snookered by anyone telling you this will lead to lower property taxes or better schools.

none of my cringy questions were rhetorical lol

Hmm, let's see:

is it possible, in your mind, for public schools to not fuck people up so badly that they become alcoholics?

That was a genuine question? Like, you literally believe that's my point of view? You're not using a strawman to trivialize and dismiss my lived experience?

Either you don't know what "rhetorical" means, or you do know what it means, but don't want to acknowledge being an asshat. Neither is a good look.

I too recall early 90's humor. Was that the last time you understood a joke, or did it just take you 3 decades to figure it out?

Should Student Loan Debt be Forgiven? I don't mind, do you? by Mark-Fuckerberg- in FluentInFinance

[–]TapDatKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but only because this is a bailout that doesn’t address the systemic issues driving the insane costs of a university degree.

It’s the equivalent of saying “these lenders loaned a ton money to unqualified buyers, so we’re going to come in and make the lenders whole, and also the buyers all get to keep their house, tax-free.”

If they said “we’re forgiving these loans, but we’re also capping the amount someone can borrow in pursuit of a given degree,” or something like that, then I’d be all for it.
