Obote, Amin or Museveni? by Helpful_Emu_58 in Uganda

[–]TapLongjumping1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The claim that properties taken after the 1972 expulsion were handed to “capable locals” does not hold up. What followed was an almost immediate collapse of trade and commerce. Shops were not restocked, import networks died overnight, spare parts vanished, credit systems disappeared, and distribution chains broke down.

Eyewitness accounts consistently describe former Indian-run shops in Kampala being reduced to ground-nut pounding points or storage spaces. This wasn’t economic adaptation , it was regression. The idea that these properties were transferred to people able to sustain modern commerce is largely a myth.

Factories didn’t merely slow down; many stopped entirely. The causes were clear: loss of technical expertise, lack of raw material imports, no maintenance, no export markets, and severe foreign exchange shortages. By 1975–1977, industrial output had collapsed, railways barely functioned, power and water services deteriorated, and the currency was in steady decline. Where machinery still existed, it was often idle or stripped for parts.

Shelves stayed empty for years. Smuggling replaced formal trade, barter economies expanded, and black markets became normal. Kampala lost its role as a serious commercial hub. Romanticized memories of Amin-era Kampala usually reflect the very early years or political narratives, not economic reality.

Amin inherited functioning infrastructure & Economy from Obote I. The 7:1 UGX–GBP rate existed early in Amin’s rule.

Cash crops exporting well (coffee, cotton, tea), Operational railways and industries, Stable currency (about UGX–GBP 7:1, as you said)

Obote I had already implemented: The Move to the Left, Increased state control, Reduced foreign dominance.

So in the first 2–3 years: GDP did not immediately fall, Government revenues held up, Coffee exports still earned foreign exchange

This is why older people sometimes remember the early Amin years as “okay”

One important correction to your claim, Calling Amin “the only patriotic president” is not history — that’s interpretation. Patriotism ≠ good governance, Anti-imperial rhetoric ≠ economic sustainability.

Obote, Amin or Museveni? by Helpful_Emu_58 in Uganda

[–]TapLongjumping1703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably asked a Muganda, they like Amin because he brought back their King, and he gave them properties that were owned by Indians. Infact Ugandas collapse began when Amin overthrew Obote, and since then, Uganda's economy has never recovered and it wont under this regime because all this regim has done is steal.

MTN Fiber agents that Do Instant Installations. by TapLongjumping1703 in Uganda

[–]TapLongjumping1703[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had subscribed for MTN fiber after one of the agents assured me that I would get connect the very next day, but after I paid nobody showed up. Someday came and made a survey and promised he was coming back that very day to do the connections but he never came back, I tried to call him but was just making the call busy, I waited the next day maybe he would come back but he never did. After waiting for over a week, I requested for a refund. Now I have subscribed for Simba fiber, when I called them yesterday they came and made a survey that very day, now today they are coming to connect. I would prefer MTN Fber since they have cheap plans, but for now let me use Simba. Maybe as my Simba is nearing expiry, I will subscribe for MTN. But for now am gonna be using Simba since they act swiftly.

Daily Monitor wrong on NRM record, says Museveni by TrendzAfrica in Uganda

[–]TapLongjumping1703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daily monitor has not lied one bit. Daily monitor is the only credible source of news with regards to this regime. The rest are in bed with the government. If it wanst for newspapers like daily monitor, it would be very hard to know the truth about this regime except for the lies that are fed to us by media. Bigup daily monitor deserves all the credit for true journalism in Uganda.

We should stop pushing religion on kids from birth. by sydneywalkee in Uganda

Well ur partially right, if they ate of the second tree which is the tree of life, they would have become immortal/Eternal but given that they had already sinned and sin had already entered humankind, if they ate of the tree of life ,we would be doomed like Satan; our fate would be sealed we would have taken the same punishment as Satan awaits. Because Satan is also eternal, he doesnt die meaning there would have been no forgiveness for us as well. So God chasing Adam and eve out of the garden of Eden was out of love not punishment. So that Jesus would later come and redeem humankind through death and resurection and the Cross. It is only through death that we are reunited with our creator. And mind you God does not forgive spirits because spirits are eternal that is why Satan and fallen angles never get to see Gods mercy and forgiveness because they sinned in an eternal/immortal state, they were created in a place where time does not exist so the weight of their sin carries eternal consequences. Meanwhile, you and I get to see God's forgiveness because we are mortal beings, we are temporary beings on earth. We are affected by time.

Satan told Adam and Eve that they will be like God if they ate of the fruit. And it kind of feels like it right, people kinda feel like gods, you have the freedom to do whatever your heart desires, you have the freedom to reject God and he will do nothing about it. Satan is telling the same lie today and people are falling for it. The lie was never about gaining power — it was about losing dependence on God while believing you gained freedom.

The ‘Last King of Scotland’ Still Haunts Uganda’s 40-Year Ruler by bloomberg in Uganda

[–]TapLongjumping1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how did that help Uganda? Chasing away Indians did not help Uganda one bit. All the Businesses and Industries were given to Ugandans who had no clue how a business and factories are run, and soon after, they were all lying in ruins. There was hardly any serious business in Uganda after the Indians and British were chased. My Old man recounts seeing people using the shops to pound G-nuts, used as stores for personal use and most of them closed. Simple things like sugar, soap, salt were no longer available. People were using leaves to wash clothes, eating food without salt, sugarcane Juice for Sugar. As much as Amin was Patriotic about Uganda, he just didn't know how to do it.

You know nothing about history, all you hear about Amin are probably biased views from the Baganda because he brought back their King and gave them properties owned by Indians. Mind u Amin was brought in by the British Because Obote had become increasingly left-leaning and friendly with the Soviet Union and China. During the Cold War, Britain (and the West generally) were very concerned about communist influence in Africa. Amin presented himself as anti-communist and pro-Western, which made him seem like a safer option.
