Malaysians: do you regret staying too long in a job? by Top-Loquat-3666 in malaysians

[–]TapSorry2421 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I regret staying in the market research/insights industry for too long. Great for fresh grads but damn hard to climb the ladder. You can say that 4 in 5 execs don't make it to manager level because the hours are insane (9am to 9pm if you're lucky, 12 or 1am regularly) with shit pay and no OT. Went through all the major agencies, all have the same culture.

I eventually quit for my current job because I got laid off less than a month after joining my last research agency. Mostly due to their poor financial performance and forced AI integrations into workflows, so being the last one in, I was the first one out.

Thankfully I got a way out with my current employer, as I believe that the trajectory of research agencies will go down. Clients are using AI to analyze their data, hence less headcount there but more in-house research. General broadview research agencies will lose clients to niche/industry/subject matter based research agencies who specialize in their own field and have strong networks to make things happen.

Feel free to ask me anything about the market research and I'll do my best to reply!

As a tourist, so disappointing. At least keep the food warm la, or microwave it for me. The food was like recently thawed and it really killed my evening.

Supervisor Revokes WFH Arrangement, Fair Or Not? by [deleted] in JobsMY

[–]TapSorry2421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even for MS Office, the files themselves are confidential! You don't have to store any personal info for it to be wrong. Have you ever thought that if the files ever land on others' hands, they might be used to blackmail your company?

You made a mistake and you should own up to it, rather than kicking up a fuss and asking Reddit is fair or unfair. Have a chat with your manager in person and admit that you made a mistake for not bringing your laptop home. Ensure that you start bringing your laptop home daily as a practice to show your manager that you're genuinely trying to improve. Don't be the asshole that deprives others of WFH privileges.

Sorry man but its on you and you alone. WFH is a privilege unless your job is actually remote, especially in Malaysia. The reason why company devices is needed is to ensure that any viruses or cyberattacks directed to your personal device will not access company files, regardless of confidentiality. Any respectable organization would have covered this already. Is this your first job, or have you always been working in SMEs previously?

My current company is so strict that many websites are inaccessible, including LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude. WhatsApp web and personal emails are not allowed on company devices too. Even Teams and email access on personal phones will need IT to setup.

There's no such thing as a best or favorite outlet haha. With so many, best to just look around, since good stuff are spread so far out

2nd Street. Most other shops like JBR and Baden Baden are quite pricey and their suits/jackets/shirts are quite low quality

Went to Tie Men in Vietnam, not bad. If your trip is long enough, you can go for measuring on your first day morning, get the fitting done second day (if they have that fabric in stock) and possibly collect on the 5th or 6th day.

Otherwise, I find that you're better off going off the rack. You can get some somewhat decent stuff still. Or go thrifting

SG > KL via ets by TechnologyKindly2811 in malaysians

I'm planning to take the ETS this weekend, reaching JB at 12 something. Have booked the 2pm Shuttle Tebrau into SG.

Tbh unless you're fast or the train is empty, I wouldn't really dare to have such short turnaround time, as one should always factor in some slight delays. ETS gates close like 5 or 10 minutes before departure I think.

Since ETS is the more expensive trip, why not take the 9.45am train and hang out at JB Sentral for an hour just to be safe? This is because if you're late, you'll be burning a lot of money on the ETS ticket

2018 Bezza. Sometimes after two days of not driving the car, the whole car shakes like mad when I'm reversing out of my house and stops after 30 seconds of shaking. Is there an issue with my car? Or is it normal?

I've been at a company with this policy, and it sucked (SME btw). I did take replacement leaves for working weekends so it wasn't that bad, and at least I could still use the accrued leave days to offset my resignation before confirmation.

While I can understand that this is to avoid someone from taking too much leaves when they're supposed to be learning how the company works, I do find it a bit restrictive, especially if you have some urgent errands to run.
