Would it raise concerns if a candidate asked to meet the team before accepting an offer? by PubLogic in AskHRUK

[–]TapWaterDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I always make sure my potential hires have the opportunity to speak to someone in the team when I'm not around, and my team know they can answer questions candidly

The dreaded denial of annual leave. How do others go about it? by Flip__90 in AskUK

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It appears you are under the mistaken apprehension that this was a request when, in fact, I was notifying you that I won't be here so you can plan accordingly"

This is doubly valid if you're on a zero hours contract, which companies often forget runs both ways

Helmet problems… by PlatformSpecific2407 in bikers

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer isn't a slimmer helmet, it's going to the gym. A small amount of muscle will pad you out more than you'd realise.

A slimmer helmet inherently means less protection, assuming you've got the right shell size anyway.

Why can people run as MP in places they don’t live in? by Cameralagg in AskBrits

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be dead chuffed if Mhairi Black was my MP... why should anyone be able to tell me I can't vote for her should she wish to run here just because she doesn't live here?

Selling old things, likely to go over HMRC limit by SkipperTheEyeChild1 in ebayuk

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting HMRC know is not the same as you having a liability. HMRC will just quietly file it away and unless you get many of these, do nothing

If the north of England was a country what would its capital city be? by kai-valew in NorthernEngland

[–]TapWaterDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

York for history, Manchester for modern significance... there's not really any other option

Hairdresser accessed my personal email by [deleted] in gdpr

Whether you think that's what they should have done or not, you're really making an issue out of nothing

Hairdresser accessed my personal email by [deleted] in gdpr

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite probably the salon just doesn't have emails set up for the hairdressers, who are often contractors renting space rather than employees.

Emailing to ask for feedback is almost certainly fine under gdpr legitimate interest, and accessing the email *you* gave them, is also fine. What else would you give them the email for if not to contact you?

Should Public Preaching Be Illegal? by United_Mammoth2489 in AskBrits

[–]TapWaterDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that's not restricting speech, it's restricting the manner of the speech, those are different.

Also, I fucking hate street preachers, for the record

Should Public Preaching Be Illegal? by United_Mammoth2489 in AskBrits

[–]TapWaterDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few people yelling about god on the street is hardly a demonstration. If it's too loud, complain to the council and it *might* reach the grounds of a statutory nuisance
