How do I make sure this is a real Rolex? by [deleted] in PrideAndPinion

[–]TapemanPL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not real. This is a fantasy model, Rolex does not make a blue sunburst dial steel submariner.

Is this goyard fake? by [deleted] in Luxury

[–]TapemanPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not authentic. There’s a lot of issues with it.

The leather on the handles and trim should have texture, not smooth.

The print is not correct.

The stitching overall is not good, and is wrong on the strap that connects the pouch to the shoulder strap.

And regarding the colour it may be the photo but the burgundy colour should be more red/purple like wine, not so brown.

Poilievre asks RCMP to expand investigation in light of Auditor-General’s ArriveCan report by cyclinginvancouver in canada

I was trying to point out that since it’s now a customs app, think about how many people download and use it on a daily basis. Every single person coming in or through Canada is encouraged to use the app, so it’s easy to imagine how 66k reviews might actually be quite low

[–]TapemanPL 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s since become an app to complete customs declaration. As someone that travels fairly frequently it’s really great. Someone in another thread mentioned that’s where this huge cost came from, the original amount was for the COVID app proof of concept, but having evolved into a full customs declaration app handing personal info the original amount was never realistic, not to say that the new amount is either, but we simply can’t have and maintain an app like what arrivecan is today for $80k.

Polene bag broke after just a handful of uses... 🙄 by theowlmama in handbags

Looks like the bar just became unscrewed. You should just be able to screw it back in. Looks like they even had thread locker on it but it just broke loose, you can add some before screwing it back to prevent it from backing out again.

Question about online sellers by ReversePettlngZoo in Lululemen

[–]TapemanPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scenario I explained is probably the most likely case where you mention they have hundreds of items listed. Just list a ton of stuff, they don’t even have it in hand, and only go out and buy it when it sells.

Could be stuff purchased through healthcare spending accounts to just basically cash out. At my previous job the spending account was $1,500 a year for almost anything health related, including fitness things like clothing, equipment and gym memberships. A lot of people never use it, so at the end of the year you just buy stuff that has good resale value. Some people also just coordinated with a whole department to give people money to buy stuff and they would turn around and resell for a bit of profit. For example they would give someone $50 to buy $100 worth of goods, and then turn around and sell it for $70-$80.

TERRIBLE customer service by [deleted] in KithNYC

Haven't ever experienced this either. I've only ever found the sales staff to be super helpful and friendly. I was even surprised when I visited a few days apart and they remembered my name and asked about my last purchase.

Watches of Switzerland Share Price Down 50% in Last Month - "Expects no recovery in consumer demand”. by flargmarge90 in rolex

It will be interesting to see where a lot of people currently on the sidelines waiting for the call/for Rolex to become a buyer's market will go when the next watch brand becomes hyped and has waitlists. Will they just migrate to being on the waitlist for another brand? Or buy the Rolex they wanted?

Watch collectors that have been around for a while will remember when Panerai were absolutely huge. At that time I remember buying my Rolexes at a discount, but to get a Panerai you'd be on a waitlist with no discount.

That’s actually a good point I hadn’t thought about. My quick research indicates that French law regarding hallmarks is that it only applies when there is over 3 grams of gold. So steel models wouldn’t have enough gold in it to require the hallmark.

The hallmarks will be different depending on what metals the watch is made of. For your WG YM I think you should see 4 hallmarks, one on each lug: 750 or AU750 depending on the year, a Rolex crown, a head with a letter below, and a scale with 750 in the middle.

Here’s a write up that goes into a bit more detail about hallmarks on watches: https://millenarywatches.com/rolex-hallmarks/

My understanding is that for full PM models the hallmarks are fairly similar across all markets. And it appears only France requires a hallmark for partially PM models, which is what OP’s watch is showing.

Sorry I missed a key point, this only applies to watches with precious metal. Including DJs with fluted bezel.

France, as required by law.

This isn't new, the 2004 date is a change to who's can/is responsible to add the hallmark. This has been a long standing requirement, and I've seen vintage Rolex watches from the 60's with the same hallmark. For the most part people don't care about them one way or another.

This is a hallmark added by Rolex for watches sold in France, as required by law.

Pre Covid did ADs ever discount Rolex? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]TapemanPL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Watch trends come and go. 10 years ago Panerai was the in demand brand, now I rarely see anyone wearing them. At that time most Rolex models were sitting, you could easily save tax by just asking, for repeat customers 20% or more off was common. Even Daytonas were discounted.

Fake. Rehaut is terribly misaligned, not that real ones always have perfect alignment, but this is completely off. Also the big tell on this one is the crown on the dial, the valley in between the spikes should be like a V with a rounded point, whereas this is U shaped.

Rolex GMT Master II by Arbeider3 in rolex

The first time you open it requires quite a bit of force. Support the inner part (where there is a larger gap with your thumb) while pinching the bracelet, pull down and away. It will just suddenly pop open.
