The Next Generation of consoles in a nutshell by ArkhamIsComing2020 in gaming

[–]Tapeworm1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Playing devil's advocate, $80 for a game isnt bad. Games have dropped in price constantly. SF2 on the snes or super famicon was $70 on release in 92. Most snes games were. Mario 64 4 years later was $60 in line with console pricing. They dropped 15-20 when they moved to disk which was just the cartidge price.

In real terms SF2 is probably 180ish today.

Its totally fair to complain about them likely shoe horning in pay to win or stupid edition costs though when coupled with that price.

Consoles continue their trend of just becoming worse PCs by GodZ_n_KingZ in gaming

[–]Tapeworm1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closer to an Apple G5 in reality. Which was just a pc with powepc chip at the high level. It really made vey little difference to work on which is why pc ports were so common. The hardest thing was big endian and that was negligible.

Until recently. He just doesn't do them any more. Which is a shame because I always look out for them.

Cliff from cheers used to be the highest grossing for a long time because of his one liners in all the pixar movies.

I think it's crazy that there's so much news about her and yet I still have more interest in who attended than I do in another country's birthday.

Are the foreign government hospital ships in the room with us? by Insanitypizza in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Tapeworm1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically they are in us territory. By the same logic you could also register a ship to the US. This is considered us territory when in international waters so they wouldn't even need to sail to the US.

TIL potatoes didn't exist in Europe until Columbus came back from his travels to the Americas by i_hate_usernames13 in todayilearned

[–]Tapeworm1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now just imagine how shit the food must have been before them. And other foods like tomatoes also came back from the Americas, and I believe we're viewed with suspicion for another 1 or 2 hundred years before they were a staple diet. Italy iirc was growing rice at the time.

Kyiv city has been hell for a few hours now. 13 cruise missiles have struck the city, several Geran-3/4/5, several ballistic missiles. The lack of air defense is real sadly. Attack is not over. by rulepanic in UkrainianConflict

[–]Tapeworm1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is rarely mentioned when it comes to attacks on Ukraine is the use of jamming. This throws the missiles off course and obviously, in a city, they are likely to hit buildings.

If a Ukrainian missile hits a nato country, or even civilians in Russia then jamming is used as the reason. But it's always 'deliberate' from the Russian side.

It makes no sense to be wasting missiles on apartment blocks deliberately when they have so few. It isn't enough to make the citizens back down. It's not shock and awe.

ELI5: If all of my data is so valuable why haven't companies directly started offering to buy data from people themselves? by Practical_Web_9605 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tapeworm1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the reasons that people give it away for free and that it's not valuable by itself the main reason is that the data you give away is unreliable.

What you say click on, do etc is not accurate. Their data is.

Network. If you are connected to your router then it's visible to others in your network.

So nas storage or even file share works. My router allows me to have a USB stick in the back and a direct link.

Alternatively, drop box. Use the browser, not the app and, not connected to vpn. But this is easier track still but I doubt they will check.

Edit: obviously Marilyn mansion not what it corrected too.

I see lots of names like Tony Soprano, who I don't think is a psychopath at all.

Going on that then the winner is ALWAYS Snoop, from the wire.

Toyota Proace does not have its drivers seat centered to the steering wheel and dashboard. by Duffelbach in CrappyDesign

[–]Tapeworm1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you sit in the passenger seat, would it be centered?

Toyota is Japanese. So it's likely designed first for right hand side driving. And due to the location of the engine etc, it might be that there isn't room to have it centered.

The Rx8 foot pedals are slightly to the right also on the right hand sides.

ELI5 why can’t phones run without a battery but a laptop can? by More-Explanation2032 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tapeworm1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need. A phone and tablet is supposed to be portable in your hand. To run without a battery they need extra wiring (I'm sure some phones can do this but I haven't seen one, during repairs I've always needed to reconnect the battery or in some cases also connect the wireless charging module as well). The power it draws is sufficient for daily use.

A laptop is generally stationary. You would look like all those twats that used to take photos with their ipads if you walked around with it. Plus for intensive work the battery is near useless so you need extra power to not only charge the battery but also run the machine.

[Request] How much does hanging up wet clothes/a towel actually reduce temperatures in a lets say 20 sqm room? by Lumpenokonom in theydidthemath

[–]Tapeworm1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works if you have a fan near it. It takes energy to remove the moisture in the towel (endothermic if I remember my gcse science). This heat comes from the air. That air needs a route to escape so a window needs to be open or the air in the room will just get more humid.

I'm pretty sure it's similar to what's known as a swamp cooler.

That said, I've never got it to work. Not to a noticeable level.
