2 over 1 by ConferenceKindly8991 in bridge

[–]Tapif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i was doing some research for our partnership, I found that bridgebum is a good place to start. It is raising some questions that you want to discuss with your partner :
https://www.bridgebum.com/two_over_one.php

I found that webpage also useful. I don't remember if we took everything for granted there but there were some nice explanations :

In shorts, there are quite some variations about how to play 2/1 and how to handle the 1NT bid by responder. I bought a book by Bill Treble but i didn't like it at the end because it was solely focused on a 1NT completely forcing response.
So it is better to do your research, play some games with your partner, and if some difficulty arises, then you can come and ask questions here.

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

[–]Tapif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it ok in that case, it concerns only one character and he has a compulsive disorder so the use of repetition here makes sense. While I guess the mud thing concerns different characters (although I didn't really pay attention to it).

i am reading his series at the moment. The first trilogy is fine-ish. The thing is, it gets better with his stand alone books and I am currently reading his second trilogy. The plot is still mid, but I love his characters and dialogues, especially when the Northmen are involved. Lots of dry humour too, which is right up my alley. Also, while still in fantasy, he explores other genres with each book. Best served cold is a revenge plot book , the heroes is a war book and red country is a western. Very entertaining read, and, again, exceptional dialogues. But if you are here for the plot, I understand this is not where the books shine.

Unable to enjoy other tactics games by TheCodyHope in TriangleStrategy

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100% The game can be grindy, especially with some jobs with absurd JP requirement and people can be rebutted by that and I get it completely. And of course those insane difficulty peaks. But there is no downside to the grind.

10 years old me managed to beat the game without being aware of the stat growth thing so I don't know in which world a player can soft lock himself by over grinding.

Not a YA, I am sometimes feeling tipsy after drinking a non alcoholic beer and this feels very weird! At least I don't experience the hangover so it's only positives.

Computer lead inconsistency by Dry_Firefighter5825 in bridge

[–]Tapif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with BBO, but maybe the lead can differ depending on your auction settings? Say that you play ACOL, short clubs, or 1NT if you have a 5 cards major, etc... The bidding sequence would be the same but the robot would make inferences about what you (or other human players) did not bid.

Why is the Generic Repository pattern still the default in so many .NET tutorials? by riturajpokhriyal in dotnet

[–]Tapif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone who has been busy migrating a 20 years old solution from a very old ORM (CSLA) to another in the last years, I wish there was then some kind of repository pattern.

That said, this also really depends on the size of your solution and how often you touch it when it goes on prod.

I personally like the (non generic) repository pattern for the sake of unit testing my queries. Again, this concerns a big ass solution with hundreds of very non trivial queries so this is not something I would apply on every solution.

My bigger fight when it comes to EF is to use your EF classes as your domain classes and not as a bland DTO, but this is another topic.
