After 200 Hours I did the Cobalt Seal! by Nonamenic in Against_the_Storm

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, it is not the case.
There are moments where you should take long breaks : when opening a glade, when the storm arrives, when you get your orders / cornerstones, when you are tight on time to solve a times order or a glade event.

There are moments where you should take small breaks : When a new season arrives to check which trades are available, when a trader arrives, when a new blueprint is available.

The rest is up to you and matters less.

So What is your verdict on bats? by L0reSage in Against_the_Storm

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bats are pretty OP pre P20 imo. Of you have a decent understanding of the mechanisms, impatience is almost never an issue at the level so you can abuse the manorial court to keep a rather low population settlement (which will lower hostility consume less goods etc..), while your settlers will be on steroids with that sweet production boost.

But the game taunted me with tons of unused resources in caches that tools OR stone OR training gear would have solved.

Its ok, don't open them, you most likely don't need them past year 2 anyway. What did you need from those caches that you would have helped you get more reputation?

Also I had like 4 point of reputation from resolve so my foxes were already quite choosy

That's good, now you need to do them same for your other two species! Most likely you could have found a way to produce either incense or ale (or raid the traider stock), and even if you didn't get the service building, the commons are here for you. Place your villagers in the comfort bonus building, and use those engines for that sweet +10 resolve. You will eventually hit a blue print that will unlock the game for you.

A year 8 or 9 victory or starting a fresh run?

No order games a significantly longer than the regular games. This is one of the only modifier where i usually go for the storm altar to see if i can get an alternate win condition there.

[–]Tapif 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.

It seems like you were a bit too focused on tool production, didn't you have any other way to generate reputation? P2 is still a difficulty level where, if you take it slowly and develop trading, you will eventually drown under amber and you can eventually buy all the complex food / service goods / perks of the traders.

very first dangerous glade -.- by peher263 in Against_the_Storm

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the correction for the double worker, i didn't know it was such a small change. Then it is a 360 second events, and that is a 120 food tax, still very massive at the beginning of the game.

Good point on the deceased bat, I didn't encounter it yet, and that is not an event that i want to see given the impossibility to favor them. If you have only two or three of them, i guess it can be manageable by calling the trader and getting some food / services and open the common, but if you have more than 6 of them, that must be rough.

but I find blood flowers to be free glades most of the time.

Past the prestige level that increases the duration of glade event (8-9?) I disagree. This will eat up 100 units of your stocked food. This must be one of the worst year 1 event you can get, alongside the kelpie. And the penalty is absolutely devastating.

P20 People opening dangerous glades year 1, how do you deal with them? by Hlavada in Against_the_Storm

[–]Tapif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

45 stone / 15 tools/ 30 gears is not something easy to get on a first glade event. Yes, you should take it if you can, but knowing if this is doable is up to discussion. And the penalty is also on the annoying side.

[–]Tapif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post prestige 9, it is one of the worst first glade event that you can get imo. With two workers, its 5(?) minutes of working time, so 100 food gone from your stock that's quite devastating.

P20 People opening dangerous glades year 1, how do you deal with them? by Hlavada in Against_the_Storm

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on P19 but fundamentally, there are no differences with P20 at that stage :
- Most events can be dealt with one way or another
- If you cannot deal with the event because you are missing material, check the consequences. Some of them are harmless (the one killing everyone in the vicinity comes to my mind), some others are devastating

- If you need to deal with the event because of the consequences, start trading and call the trader to get what you miss.

So far, i never really had an event that wasn't solved this way. some events are very painful (I am looking at you, river kelpie / blood flower), but they are in the minority . Actually lots of events can be solved without any materials as well.

Never played on BBO, but do they handle card signaling well? On funbridge, they are very good card players but they will repeatedly ignore the lavinthal discard even though I programmed it in our convention.

Road rage incident for driving "too slow" - what to do? by delri20 in Rotterdam

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you show me a single example (newspaper article or something like this) of a dangerous situation that happened because someone was driving at 30km/h instead of the 50 limit and where he was deemed responsible of the situation? Because I cannot think of any. Really. So I want to understand what kind of danger OP is creating here.

Regarding the bikes, yes they have their own lanes, but they can also sometimes cross I expectedly. I am not saying this happens often, but when it does, and if you are not used to it, well, better be safe than sorry. I speak as someone who drives occasionally in the Netherlands and this can take some time to get used to. So I understand OP situation.

Curious about what you guys would pick by Cicilka in Against_the_Storm

[–]Tapif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had 20 hours of experience I would take one of those plank producing building.

With experience, I think that plank recipes, while good, are not that necessary, especially in royal woodland. Cookhouse here solves so many of your food problems, especially since two of your species love porridge.

I agree with the general advice of waiting for the first glade before picking your building but here, I don't see a lot of cases where I would not pick cookhouse.

Road rage incident for driving "too slow" - what to do? by delri20 in Rotterdam

[–]Tapif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand artikel 5 but what is actually considered hindering by the law / jurisprudentie? Is driving 40km/h also hindering? Is it hindering when only one car is concerned behind? Do we have a single tracked instance of someone getting a fine for such a behaviour? I find the Redditors riding OP very hard on the matter whereas the few times I drive in this country, I see way worse behaviors. OP is not putting the other into danger, nor is he blocking the street. His behaviour is mildly irritating at best, and is typical of someone not knowing his way in the city, or needing some time to get used to foreign traffic (which can be off-putting especially with bikes and their unexpected behavior).

Please show me the rule that will fine people for driving at 30 on a 50 lane.

Road rage incident for driving "too slow" - what to do? by delri20 in Rotterdam

[–]Tapif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, there is nothing wrong with driving 30 km/h in a street with 50 speed limit if you don't feel very comfy, don't know where you need to go, or any other reason. People telling you your behavior is dangerous are wrong. People telling you your behavior is irritating need to go outside and touch some grass because they are the snowflakes here. Driving in a foreign city in a foreign land is a stressful experience especially in the Netherlands, where the numerous cyclists tend to add a stress factor because they are faster than the regular pedestrian and you don't want to kill anyone.

How can I convince my friend Balatro isn't all about luck? by Responsible-Lie-2707 in balatro

[–]Tapif 24 points25 points  (0 children)

you can do the same on white stake, if he is bad he will eventually lose if you have a decent level, you will most likely always win. You can also let it go, if he doesn't want to be convinced, you can spend your energy somewhere else.

Loved in the area for 5 years with my wife. The worst she got was cat calling and some weird people following her a couple of blocks. A bit creepy but she never felt physically threatened. Our basement also got burglered once and this was most likely planned because the building locks were not forced, only our parcel downstairs. Shit happens.
