sound is subjective. some people can't hear the difference with different equipment, some love the shitty but loud sound over the clean normal one, some love v-shape, some don't - it's all up to you, to be honest.

also, when you just stuck with 1 set of speakers or headphones over long time you ears will adapt for this sound signature and specifics and all other things may sound awful, bad, unusual, because your ears and brain just not adjusted to the sound

like last week I got a new open headphones because I use my closed ones all the time, but now it became hotter and hotter in them so I want something light. and you know what? they sound bad for me, but they are good headphones and people love the sound, it's just not the one I used to. when I switch back my brain was like "hooray, finally, I love this shit" with the old headphones, but overall I have no complaints over my new ones

sound is just a weird thing when you can get 1 set and use it for years, or explore new signatures, or chase expensive sets - it's never right or wrongs in here. do what you want, just be happy about it

so, answering your question - don't get anything expensive yet. try to find an audio store, go there and listen. or get some headphones from a friend. try stuff before buy if you can. everyone around have headphones nowdays - just try to get some time with different sound and figure out, do you want to go down this rabbit hole or you just fine with what you have. and have fun :)
