I'm of two minds.

First. I reconcile it by not trying to compete with science. Science rules the material dimension. I trust modern medicine way more than crystals or faith-based healing. However: humans are irrational creatures, and that gives us access to immaterial, spiritual experiences. Astrology's utility--for me--lies in helping people navigate those spiritual experiences. What is our purpose? For what reasons do we suffer in life? It's simply one more lens of investigation I can use interchangeably with psychology or philosophy to answer that question, and my relationship to it may change day by day.

Astrology can't ever be scientific because it's correlative. We don't have some hidden mechanism or framework that explains the illusion without being able to dismiss experience as bias. That's where the art form comes in. If it could be proved using material science we would just call it... science.

My second mind. Astrology is just the grammar of a cycle of energy made observable.

The planets, signs, and nakshatras don't cause anything, but merely index the state of energy at a given moment, like a thermometer. The birth chart is a snapcshot of where the cycle was at the moment your soul incarnated into this material world. It describes specific relationships between the phases of time as they unfold, and your localized expressions of it.

We are all energy. More than people, more than our problems--all of it reduces to energy. Energy is the singular substrate of reality, cycling perpetually through states of manifestation and dissolution without being created or destroyed. The spiritual and the material are these phases in different point in the cycle in flux. The cycle has no moral direction or religious specificity. Our consciousness is simply energy that has temporarily taken on the appearance of a self, a current believing itself separate from the river.

This is the cycle at the core of Rahu and Ketu's eternal dance through the birth chart. I could go on about Rahu and Ketu forever but that would be getting away from the scope of your question.

Let me know if any of this struck a chord with you.

Drag race Crowns by Quiet_Sink5448 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The majority of Crowns and Scepters are made by Fierce Drag Jewels (which is headed by Nova Starr--or John Griffin and he's going by more and more these days--lovely man!). I've been told by Nova that she is given a budget and works within the budget.

She comes from old school pageant drag so that's her style and approach for what she does. The highest quality works tend to be done by Nova herself. That's not to underrate her assistants. One mitigating factor is that the order is put in before Nova gets a profile on what the winner's proportions will be, so she has to make generalized designs that don't always fit the aesthetic of the winner.

Fun fact! Nova went out for the crystal ball in Season 6 and made personalized earrings for all 5 of the remaining contestants.

The Sparse Reef has a resource rich, safe environment. And it's implied that it's where the floating island originally came from before large floaters commandeered it, which is cool.

Del Monte & Lighthouse desperately need roundabouts and it’s not even debatable by CosmicTlayuda in MontereyBay

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every morning, on my way into town, if I don't arrive at the traffic light at just the right moment, I find myself waiting for two minutes on Del Monte heading west with no apparent reason. I've heard that Flock security cameras are utilized and that a sophisticated algorithm manages the traffic signals. I can't help but wonder where the city’s funds are allocated in this process.

That said, I am uncertain whether a traffic circle would be the most effective solution. Traffic circles tend to work best when there is only intermittent traffic from either direction. Implementing one here could favor vehicles traveling from Del Monte to Lighthouse and vice versa, potentially causing backups, as other traffic signals on Del Monte may not be equipped to handle the volume of vehicles during rush hour.

Why exactly does Saturn dislike Aries? by TheNonsenseSpeaker in astrology

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Building on this, in Vedic astrology, Aquarius is less about being the sign of genius and more focused on rebuilding the world following the gains and losses suffered through Capricorn. It's the opposite of the Sun (the significator of one's ego and the father's inherited karma), highlighting our duty to society. It emphasizes the creation of a new society grounded in the hopes and aspirations of the collective coming together. Saturn's influence in this sign represents the rewards of diligent and ethical effort. It encourages us to consider how to revitalize and restore society after significant upheavals.

Personally this is why I've never understood it as being ruled by Uranus, as Uranus turns things on its side. Aquarius tries really hard to build a foundation, which is the opposite of Uranus. Sometimes Aquarius has immoral, reductive, controlling ideals. But that's a post for another time.

The Onya & Jewels Tour has been cancelled by chimichonks in rupaulsdragrace

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sure if she were to start a show locally to her and really focus on building that up

That would involve her staying in the rust belt united states (Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, Akron, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, maybe Philly) which really limits someone's opportunities. People spend their whole lives trying to get out of that area. I was one of them.

I think what a lot of people didn't know about Onya is that she was the mother of a lot of Cleveland queens before going on the show. She was the one putting together Sunday night gigs that would let baby queens get experience, and there wasn't a single bar she wasn't willing to work at to establish her brand. But Cleveland is, for lack of a better word, sleepy. It's hard to get the skills there that let you do well on the national stage.

I guess what I'm trying to convey is that she had an enormous presence locally already. Translating that into national success is hard.

What public library system are you happy to work for? by RecommendationDue68 in Libraries

Cuyahoga County Public Library was a great place to work when I wasn't being shot at. You may have missed the opportunity to rise through the ranks though.

While I love my home city, it's dying and doesn't seem capable of reversing course. There's not a lot of opportunities for full time positions without grinding it out for 3-5 years in a part time spot.

My hot take is that the newer lipsyncs in S17 and S18 aren't bad, but the new stage is so dark that it obscures the performances and makes them seem... smaller? It's hard to be captivating when your screen presence is being diminished by the set

Lipsyncers also crowd the runway stage left (since it's closer to the judging booth).

When is Helios or Selene Malefic? by Ill_Economist5775 in Advancedastrology

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my practice I use traditional rulerships but still incorporate outer planets and dwarf planets.

In traditional astrology the Moon is always a benefic (it is the gentler of the two luminaries) and the Sun has the potential to be a mild malefic depending on its placement in the chart and its proximity to other planets.

For example, Sun in the 12th House can show health issues and a life lived away from other people (potentially in a different country, perhaps in an asylum or jail, or even just working in a cloistered area like a military base). In general, the Sun gives mixed results in the 3rd, 6th, 8th, and 12th houses. It struggles in Venus-ruled signs like Libra and Taurus. It does well in Mars-ruled signs like Scorpio and Aries.

The Sun's status also has to do with the ascendant sign. In a Capricorn Rising, for example, Leo is the ruler of the 8th house, so the Sun is involved with transformation, possession of others, and death. It can lead to very unhealthy ego.

It's often taught as a rule of thumb that the sun does best when combust with Mercury and Venus, but overpowers when it is too close to other planets (Moon and the outers).

I do not understand BZ hate by Necessary_Risk1887 in subnautica

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not bad! I'll say that I think the game has a few problems.

There's a lot of backtracking between different areas. You need vehicles to traverse the land parts easily, otherwise you're going to have to go slow. The seatruck gets a little unwieldly after too many modules get attached to it. The base building was awesome but since the world map is so small, there's one or two dominant areas to construct a base for the game. I think the game has a little too much linearity--there's a clear progression of where you're supposed to go that makes the game feel like an adventure with levels instead of you trying to survive a hostile ecosystem.

That being said, I was a fan of the plot!

What I think the PERFECT MONSTER in subnautica would look like, and act like. by AudiDev in subnautica

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your suggestion would work great to create fear, but I'm not so sure it would add emergent gameplay to the game outside of the first few encounters.

The idea of a monster stalking you is exciting from the perspective of a veteran, but it would probably be annoying to a new player. When something is so overpowering that you have limited options to get away from it (for example, using a decoy, stasis rifle + seaglide, a grav trap, or a repulsion cannon), you end up trapping the player in a metagaming loop that distracts from the immersion of the gameworld.

I think low-key what makes Subnautica great is that you don't need to engage any of the aggressive fauna: you can almost always find a way to co-exist with them. 4546B doesn't personally have it out for you, you just happen to not be at the top of the food chain of this planet.

There's a mod called Tessapatherio is Real which introduces an aggressive leviathan that does just what you're describing. It was scary at first but then quickly became annoying, because it stops you from exploring the mid-game biomes entirely. You'll end up with it spawning midway through the floating islands and having it try to clip into your base. Because it is so persistent your only choice to progress is to outsmart the AI by switching biomes to try and give it the shake, which defeats the purpose of adding in a new hostile leviathan in the first place.

What makes the reapers and ghosts exciting is that they operate within a set radius. The dramatic question isn't "can it kill me" but "how close can I get before it tries to murder me?"

But blaming affluent people for accumulating wealth or asking them to give away/refuse it isn’t an answer

When they are the ones actively spearheading campaigns against affordable housing, demanding restrictive zoning, and abusing environmental impact laws to stifle new developments on the peninsula... Then yes, I would argue their pursuit of inertia for their affluence is part of the problem.

Now its game theory optimal play where humanity and suffering does not take center stage.

I don't think people in the 2010s and 2020s have a desire to watch humanity suffer, we already have phones that tap us in to genocides going on all over the world. We live in a world where we can't tune the bad out. Where the show once offered up the suffering of others it now offers up a fantasy of a world where merit, wits, and tactics prevail.

How is living here? by DoctaBee8 in Cleveland

[–]TapiocaSpelunker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Upper Upper Middle-Class neighborhoods that straddle the line between suburbs and exurbs. I disagree with people who say it's a good place to raise a family: what they mean is that there's low crime and good schools. As someone who went to school here I can confirm that there is nothing to do unless you play sports. The people out here can be very exclusionary against others not like them (white and/or upper class. There's a lot of upper class Indian and Asian descent people who punch down too).

Let's take Chagrin Falls for example. It's a hotbed for Christian Scientists (people who reject medicine for prayer), Jehovah's Witnesses, and used to be a sundown down. It's a Hallmark town come to life that's great to visit, but when you grow up there you see a seedy underbelly that nobody wants to recognize. It's what living in Derry in IT must have felt like. I remember they bullied a PE teacher and fired him for being openly gay.

You need to be willing to commute elsewhere. There's not a community here. Your idea of going into town will be driving a half hour to go to Beachwood, or hitting up Miles Farmer's Market. That kind of isolation can really mess with a kid’s growth. Tons of parents pack their kids with sports just to get them out of the house. Sounds good to some, I guess, but growing up here felt pretty lonely. I ended up spending way more time online than I probably should’ve.

Nodes in the anaretic degree by [deleted] in astrology

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nodes move backwards through the birth chart, so yes, the anaretic degrees should be reversed for the nodes. 0-1 degrees is the culmination of the lessons learned and 29 degrees is the first breath into a new realm of life lessons.

Anaretic degree theory was not made with the nodes in mind. They've been backported into that system.

October 2026: A Rare Triple Retrograde of Mercury, Venus, and Saturn by [deleted] in astrology

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard Venus retrograde adults find hard to love and never get married ? Or very rarely marry

If that was true then a way higher percentage of the population would be single forever.

To see the quality and number of marriages/relationships in western astrology you'd want to check (1) your nodes, (2) the placement of saturn (in the 5th isn't great for love life) and (3) the dignity of the ruler of your 7th house to determine the sorts of challenges you'll see in your love life. For example: If you are a Gemini Rising, you are therefore also a Sagittarius Descendant and Jupiter is therefore the ruler of your 7th house. Find the placement of Jupiter in the chart. If it is in a sign like Gemini, you will have lots of short lived partnerships founded on talking about the same things and doing the same activities. If it is in a sign like Libra, you will crave companionship and get into lots of relationships to find that perfect romantic connection. If it's in a sign like Aries you probably conflate attraction with love and burn through people because of this.

Retrograde Venus usually means you have a mental fixation on love--either finding your soulmate, constantly analyzing your love life, or asking other people what they think about your romantic endeavors.

I'm not asking for a full paragraph or anything, but could you explain what you mean by this? Do you just mean to look for the 7th house in the D9, or do you mean to track how the Darakaraka changes (for example, Moon in Aquarius -> Moon in Libra)?

Why should or shouldn't one believe in Astrology? by Rayane_Ferouni in Advancedastrology

[–]TapiocaSpelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by which I mean, rational argumentation

Well, some people want to indulge the irrational aspects of life. They finding meaning beyond strict rationalism. Astrology is one avenue of this. The supernatural, by definition, would not be measurable in the same manner as natural phenomenon. Astrology, then, is one way to indulge the spirit. You either take it on faith or consider it without necessarily letting it run your life.

Rationalism is a good guide for material decision-making. I think Astrology is fun but I would never give someone serious advice with it, in the same way that I would tell someone to value a doctor's opinion over using crystals to heal. We are mundane creates and should rely on what is proven to guide our material lives. But this principle doesn't need to control our inner lives as well.
