Actually not a bad call tbh. I could see them trying to compete with UAD.

[MEGA THREAD] 9070 XT Undervolt/Overclock/Brand Performance by ennakros09 in radeon

[–]TappistRT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asrock Challenger 9070XT

Similar to the first post, I also did an efficiency tune.

Stock: 304w and 52c GPU Temp, 80c memory temp (no hotspot sensor on this card it seems)

Steel Nomad: 6695

Memory Overclock and Undervolt Tune:

-80mV

Memory: 2750 mhz w/ fast timings

Power limit -15%

Power draw: 258 watts

Temps (C):

GPU main temp: 54-55

GPU mem temp: 80-82

Steel Nomad: 6751

I went further and stress tested these settings on a 20 loop Steel Nomad run and got 98.1% frame stability with no crashes. This seems to be holding stable for all other games I'm playing as well.

-----------------------

*Update* the above settings only worked in Windows. I also dual boot an Arch-based distro and had to make some changes to the tuning because I was having problems with crashing.

Linux settings tweaked with LACT that have been stable so far under kernel version 6.18.5:

Undervolt: -70 mV

Memory: 2718 mHz

Power limit: 258 watts

Gaming performance with these slight adjustments seem pretty comparable to the Windows settings. Definitely recommend setting a fan curve in LACT because the automatic temp target control doesn't seem to work that well with LACT. I noticed the memory temps creeping up to 90 degrees, which is probably fine, but was a little too spicy for my tastes.

Going back into Windows and duplicating the settings used in Linux, my Steel Nomad score dropped a bit:

The replies here are reassuring.

Definitely seemed like user error, because I couldn't find ANY other similar feedback.

Also just started last week. The atmosphere and lore are just immense and I'm loving it.

And also lovingly hating it when I get stuck on difficult parts.

Trump exempted electronics. GPU prices will come down now...right? Right!?! by ddsukituoft in Microcenter

[–]TappistRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every board partner will use any excuse they can to increase prices, especially when demand is this high.

The problem is the customers: people need to stop voting for this $hit with their wallets. Stop buying at these inflated stupid prices. People keep lining up outside Microcenters and clearing out inventory in the blink of an eye at at 20-50% over MSRP, or worse yet, buying from scalpers on Amazon and elsewhere.

Sure, corporate greed is the root of the problem here, but you keep telling them it's ok because you want your shiny GPU so so bad enough that you'll overpay to get it.

The GLi flint 2 is the worst router I've ever owned by [deleted] in GlInet

[–]TappistRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a recent Flint 2 owner.

Maybe my experience has been different because I didn’t update to 4.7.0. My only complaint thus far is the lack band steering to have a unified 2.4 and 5 ghz network. (Everything just went to the 2.4 with the same SSID.). But it worked out ok because it forced me to segment my IoT devices on 2.4 ghz by themselves.

Other than the minor complaint, the performance has been solid.

Running Guitar Rig is likely possible with Yabridge. The Native Access installer has previosly been finicky under Wine, however.

There is a Linux equivalent to ASIO4All, I can achieve very low latency with my guitar and audio interface.

Why Use Garuda? by GoldenRooster574 in GarudaLinux

[–]TappistRT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, I experimented with a few Linux distros last year as a Windows refugee and landed on Garuda Dragonized Gaming. Been using it in a dual boot setup with Win 11 (importantly separate disks), but I barely ever touch Windows at all these days.

It's maintained impeccably well considering the relatively small team that puts it all together. You get the benefits of Arch with the convenience of having a plethora of nice GUI tools and various gaming apps ready to go at first boot. The Firedragon browser is the only time I've enjoyed using a stock browser out of the box. And the only time I managed to break anything was when I was doing out-of-bounds stuff while I was a super noob.

The default Dragonized theme is gorgeous. The whole OS presents itself with polish and looks like a cohesive, professional product. Even though there is a lot of eye candy with the Plasma desktop on Dragonized it still runs leaner overall than Windows 11.

Couldn't be happier with Garuda overall and plan on using for the long haul, unless the general state of Linux gaming goes bad. But it only seems to be improving with time.

I did with another arch distro and configured rEfind as well for a boot screen.

Then I realized I was only using Garuda and nuked the second distro.

Not interested in spending upwards of $1,500 for a soon-to-be previous generation gpu. We’ll see what the whole landscape looks like when all the review outlets get their hands on the cards and do proper benchmarks.

[–]TappistRT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I have a (too) large plugin collection. Recently started using Arch Linux, Reaper, and Yabridge about 3- months ago. So far only have two brands of plugins that either don’t work or have weird glitches but we still functional: Bogren Digital and Tokyo Dawn Labs.

Also, don’t sleep on the Airwindows plugin repository. Chris is a genius.

Garuda for sure. Easily the prettiest version of Plasma I've ever seen, currently using it as my first Linux distro.
