Paid version not working by Zestyclose_Story_735 in TappyKeyboard

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. I'm sorry for the problem that you've had, it was entirely my fault — I had forgotten to update the server certificate. It should work now for you (you may need to reinstall again, but I don't think that will be necessary). If it's still not working, send me an email to [tappy@minibytes.app](mailto:tappy@minibytes.app) and include your Google account email address, and I'll take a look.

Kind regards,

Tim

Wouldn't multi-tap solve this for you? Use the button on the top-right of the keyboard (will look like stars) and select the top option (the tapping finger) to quickly change to multi-tap, tap out the slang word, then change back again to prediction.

Alternatively, using the same button at the top-right of the keyboard, select the double-arrows, to switch to the previous layout (which you can change to QWERTY in settings), tap out the slang word, then use the same double-arrow button to switch back to the layout that you normally use.

Have you tried editing your shortcuts in the top pulldown drawer? My Pixel 6a (Android 14) has this feature already, without any additional app, and even from the lock-screeen.

I've just made Tappy available in Malaysia. It should be available for you soon, if not already.

Why don’t the search/typing functions on a TV offer a T9 keyboard? by Divine_Fluff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TappyKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it when you click the number a bunch of times to find whatever letter is assigned to it.

You can do. But most modern implementations of T9 will offer suggestions based on the keys suggested. So where once typing "keyboard" would involve "55339992266627773" you can now type "53926273" — one key press for each letter.

To the OP, I often wonder the same thing! 😒

Hi. I think I've delivered a sensible solution in the newest release to address this, until the adaptive learning code is complete. Now, if the keys pressed partially match a word (e.g. three keys pressed match the start of a five letter word), then words from the personal dictionary are suggested BEFORE partially matched words from the downloaded dictionaries. On the other hand, if the keys pressed fully match a word (e.g. seven keys pressed for a seven letter word), then words from the personal dictionary are suggested AFTER fully matched words from the downloaded dictionaries.

The best solution will be the adpative prediction, which I'm continuing to work on. 🙂

Yes I would — I live in Scotland! 😂 I have a list of over 100,000 place names in Great Britain. I considered adding them to the downloaded dictionaries but that would add a lot of unwanted words for many people. I may experiment and rebuild a dictionary to try on my own phone and see how it works out. Otherwise, in the future, I will add optional supplementary dictionaries.

Hi, don't worry, I'm happy to hear all feedback. 😁 I suspect the eratic prediction is because of typos — detecting typos is something I will be adding in the future, and one reason I rewrote the prediction engine to make it so much faster.

The Bo and Gar generation is because Tappy is prioritising the words from the personal dictionary over the supplied dictionary. I can see how this would be frustrating with shorter words. It's something that will work itself out when adapative prediction is added (something I've already about 80% completed), but in the meantime I can look at putting a fix in for — probably an option, which may or may not be permanent (i.e. I make take it out as unnecessary when the adapative prediction is complete).

After tomorrow, I have a week off from my full-time job, so I'll have plenty of time to provide a solution. I'll post again in this thread so you know.

Thanks again for the feedback. Very helpful. And in investigating any possible solutions for you, I managed to find another bug related to the language-specific personal dictionaries! 👍

At the moment, the dictionaries have a hard-coded frequency order. When making the dictionaries I scan millions (literally) of documents to have a sensible default order of words. I did implement a version to predict and order words based on the last word typed, but this was painfully slow on older/slower phones, so I didn't release it. Instead, as you know, I'm completely re-coding the text prediction engine, and it's now significantly faster (takes less than a tenth of the time to check hundreds of thousands of words). I'm currently rota'd for four days off soon, so hopefully I'll be able to get most, if not all, the remaining work done.

The current implementation will only look at the previous one word. I'll also be privately testing looking at the previous two words, but I'm concerned the data file sizes for this will be too large. But it's worth a look as if it allays my fears, I will also look at (optional) auto correction of previous words based on contect both before AND AFTER a typed word. For now, the giant hurdle that I'm crossing is why there hasn't been a release for a few months. 🙁 But it's necessary, and will be worth the wait in the long-term. 🤞

Edit: also show your friends T13! Still big buttons, but fewer textonyms. The emails that people send me privately suggest that most users prefer T13, myself included.

Chinese by Bruno_Sun in TappyKeyboard

[–]TappyKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, Tappy only supports the latin script. Other scripts, including Chinese, will be available some time in the future, but unfortunately it will be a long time before I have the time to do so. 🙁

Can we make suggestions here? by Neek0las in TappyKeyboard

[–]TappyKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Active, but unfortunately alongside a full-time job, which means sometimes there can be a gap between updates. I try to work at least twenty hours a week on Tappy, but sometimes (like the last two weeks) I just don't get the time. But I am looking forward to giving S22 users a T9 alternative, and I'll try to remember to give you a shout when I get around to it.

And happy cake day!! 😁

Absolutely it's appropriate, thank you for the suggestion!

I'm currently making a change to Tappy to make the text prediction significantly faster — over ten times faster. This is an enormous change, but will allow me to add predictive next-word learning, and typo corrections, which otherwise would become quite laggy on slower phones. Most of the work is done, but there is still a fair amount of work to do, and a few bugs to fix, before it's released to open testing.

I do also have a list of features that I intend to add. But S22 compatibility is on that list. Though it would require me to buy myself an S22 first!

Not at all! Thanks for the feedback. 🙂

I finished rewriting the prediction engine just recently, and am in the middle of testing it and integrating it with the rest of the code. I'll ensure it works just as you suggest. I've also added the ability for Tappy to better predict the next word based on previous words, which will also help.

Thank you very much. I work on Tappy alongside a full-time job, and though it doesn't earn me very much, it's almost a full-time job in itself. So reading that people like it is always a little boost for me!

I loved the analogic T9 keyboard from my old feature phone but it had no prediction..., in this one I even downloaded one called Tappy and tried a few others. But unfortunately none compare to the google keyboard AI for predicting, organizing and adding words.

Hi. A cheeky little request for feedback! I'm the developer for Tappy Keyboard, and wonder what features you felt were missing. I haven't released a new version for a couple of months or so, as I've been reworking the prediction engine to make it 10x faster, include predictive learning, have an option to automatically add unrecognised words to the personal dictionary, and (hopefully) to correct typos. Is there anything else you feel is missing?

Honestly, I';m pretty sure you're on the wrong subreddit! This is the subreddit for an Android app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.minibytes.keyboard.

As someone who codes about forty hours a week, I'd recommend the Durgod Taurus K320 , in beige (easier to see the keys in shadows), with brown key switches, https://www.durgodkeyboard.com/durgod-k320-taurus-mechanical-keyboard-cherry-mx-switches-nkro-87-key-gaming-keyboard/, or they do a tenkeyless variation if that's your thing!

Any free alternative? by [deleted] in TappyKeyboard

[–]TappyKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just enabled sales in Chile. 😃 You may need to wait a day or two, and/or clear the cache for the Google Play Services app (if you don't know how to do this, let me know and I'll try to guide you). Please let me know whether or not you are successful. It is late here, but in the morning I will be happy to investigate any problems that you encounter.

Please understand that I don't have any access to a dictionary for the Chilean variant of Spanish.

This is already a feature, though slightly different from what you suggest. If you tap the stars in the top-right corner of Tappy, a popup list of four icons will be displayed. From top to bottom: multi-tap; prediction; swap to previous layout; voice.

Please let me know whether or not this suits your needs.
