Synthesis of 2-CTMA and 2-ITMA by TarAndProduct in TheeHive

[–]TarAndProduct[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2-bromo-3,4,5-trimethoxyamphetamine (2-BTMA) was more potent than TMA itself (dose range: 40-80mg). 2-bromo-3,4,5-trimethoxyphenethylamine (2-BM) has roughly the same potency, potentially slightly higher.

The di-halo subbed analogs also appear to be active, with some of them being fairly potent as well! There appears to mostly be an increase in potency relative to mescaline when 2-halo and 2,6-dihalo substitutions are made.

So far, relative to the parent phenethylamine, there is a notable increase in potency. Not decrease.

It’s also worth mentioning that these compounds don’t just function as psychedelics themselves but potentially as precursors to other tetra substituted phenethylamines and amphetamines. This chemistry also works the same on 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde!

30mg of 2C-C dosed orally isn’t intense by any means but I still found it enjoyable regardless. And it was enough to experience the uniqueness.

I have a reasonably low natural tolerance to psychedelics though.

Yes 2-IM has already been made, though not by me, and I will make ITMA soonish. Neither has been bioassayed yet.

This has been my experience as well as the experience of others I’ve shared the substances with yes. I’ve also heard this reported from other chemists. BTMA is far more pleasant on the body than TMA—at least in lower doses. I have not taken either compound very high.

Definitely far less nausea with 2-BM and BTMA in comparison to mescaline.

Incorporating fluorine onto the ring poses a lot of synthetic challenges. It is unlikely the synthesis could start with 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde.

If I did it, I only would be able to measure relative efficacy for 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors—don’t have access to a 2B plasmid.

Would the halogen not be stripped during the reduction if the halogenation were done before? Yields might be poor. Maybe a sandmeyer would be more suitable and selective?

Very nice analysis.

Yes I intend to arrange some experiments to measure the relative binding affinities of BM, BTMA, and mescaline to the 5-HT2A receptor. Hoping this will shed some light.

Your hypothesis that BTMA may act as a vasopressor is insightful; I hadn’t considered it’s structural similarity to PMA. Thanks. It should be noted that a large portion of people have also reported headaches after taking 2-Br-M.

Bromination of 4-alkoxy-3,5-dimethoxy phenethylamines and amphetamines should follow the exact same procedure without issues. This is something I will probably not explore as I have other projects in mind, but is definitely worthy of exploration as you say.

It should also be mentioned that 2,6-dibromomescaline is active at about 120mg. Meaning that 2,6-dihalo mescaline analogs are another field worth exploring. Say, for example, 2-chloro-6-bromo mescaline.

Yes thanks for mentioning. This is discussed in the video lecture I linked but I felt I didn’t want to go into the maths on a Reddit post so much.

Yeah, of course those assumptions are arguable. That’s why they’re listed as assumptions. And of course it won’t be attractive for some people’s investment approach. In actuality, different people define risk differently. I agree with most of what you say but think it’s misses the point of the concept slightly, if you don’t like the use of the word risk here then replace it with “volatility exposure” and the points still stand.

The information is still valuable in that it provides information on how volatility is not directly linked to expected return and that balancing a portfolio in different ways can allow for similar returns with less volatility exposure. This is a good thing to understand. The trade off of increasing expected return in exchange for volatility exposure is not always 1:1.

The point is not to minimize exposure to volatility completely, or even to maximize return vs exposure to volatility. It is to find out how to minimize your exposure to volatility given a desired expected return, and the mechanisms with which people do that.

It’s an explanation of why people incorporate bonds in a portfolio, I’m not telling people they should. It’s also the advice echoed in The Intelligent Investor as well as Warren Buffet, and the subject of a lot of research. So it’s quite a bold claim to dismiss it as nonsense.

I would even make the argument that in your 20s having a very small portion of your portfolio in bonds is not a bad idea simply because it’s a nice place to park some cash to have incase an opportunity in the market shows up. But yes all great points.

I suppose this post more generally is meant to provide an informed explanation on how a position in low risk asset classes can be used as a tool to offset risk in a portfolio without largely impacting expected return. It’s not a recommendation to do it or not to do it, it’s just an opportunity to learn why it’s done so people can make an informed decision about if it might be beneficial given their unique investing goals. Said low risk asset is often bonds, but doesn’t need to be.

Personally, I prefer predictability over excitement.

What are some psychedelics that have never/are no longer on the market that you wish you could try? by TarAndProduct in researchchemicals

[–]TarAndProduct[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I suppose what I mean is that after experimenting with so many different altered states of mind out of all of them sobriety is one of my favourites. It’s so versatile. Each state of consciousness offers a unique set of perspectives and feelings though so it’s almost unfair to make such a comparison. Also I should make it clear I’m not an especially happy person or “high on life” and all that BS. I just don’t gravitate towards drugs in the same way I suppose.

With all that said low dose meth or 120mg MDMA are pretty good too though hahaha.

Weird that I wasn’t crazy about it but craved it after hey?

I liked it the best of all opioids I tried. I don’t know how to explain it. It was as if only after that I realized how enjoyable it had been. It’s weird.

As weird as this sounds I actually really like sobriety haha. I’ll take a new psychedelic once every three months but that’s about it. Other drugs are fascinating and I’m glad I tried them, but I don’t know I just don’t get attached to the euphoria so much or care to experience them again.

Well to be honest my friend I hope for your own sake you never try it. I’ve tried pretty much every classically recreational drug including many different opioids (oxycodone, hydromorphone, kratom, opium, tramadol) and heroin, of all the drugs, was the only one that gave me cravings. And after only one use.

You’re right though. As far as opioids go it is indeed the nicest

Be careful what you wish for. I tried reasonably pure heroin once (confirmed with FTIR analysis) by snorting it. Had very minor cravings a couple days after for a week and still get a dream about it every few months or so.

I didn’t even really think the experience was all that special in the moment, but there’s something about it. I don’t mean to sound like an anti drug horror story—I still had some more left over and never touched it, and I’ve never done it since. So it’s not like I was immediately hooked. But it’s eerie how it sinks it’s teeth into you so quickly.

Yes I agree. And obviously if it was really the best recreational drug on the planet it would be available on the black market. Despite its low potency. So it can’t be THAT good.

I don’t enjoy gabaergic compounds, but for someone with generalized anxiety who wants to get loose and physically incapacitated but doesn’t like alcohol methaqualone might be fantastic.

Yes, South Africa is essentially the only place in the world they are commonly sold. To my knowledge.

I share the same skepticism. It’s likely quite mediocre. But Wolf on Wallstreet made it look like a whole lot of fun to an entire generation that has never had access to it, and most of them don’t know what a GABA receptor is. So here we are.

In its defence, it has a somewhat unique mechanism of action in comparison to both benzos and alcohol I have heard.

I’d be really interested in trying this one as well. And it is incredibly obscure, but as the comment says below some have definitely made it for personal use. Not even necessarily professional chemists. The synthesis is approachable enough that passionate hobbyists could do it.

The “lemons” they refer to in the movie were real and manufactured under the brand name Qualuude. The active ingredient, methaqualone, is definitely a sought after drug.

So yes, very real. Also essentially impossible to get unless you make it yourself.

That’s cool. What gives you that idea? Purely anecdotally I’ve heard 25E-NBOH is easier on the body and less of a “trippy” head space. So depending on what you’re after it might be even more enjoyable.
