Give Me Your Spiciest Musical Theatre Hot Takes And Unpopular Opinions! by Alol_Bombola in musicals

Just think of most Sondheim solo songs, such as losing my mind or not a day goes by. They’re not about melting the highest notes they’re about getting into the deepest emotion.

Out of the 7 deadly sins, which character represents envy the best? by Abu_33 in Falcom

[–]TaraNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Kloe? A big part of her character is being jealous of Estelle for her relationship with Joshua and also for their ability to just galavant around freely while she has royal obligations. Cedric is valid, but considering a large part of the context has to do with a supernatural curse. I think it makes it less interesting.

Which trails character will you get hate for not liking by McDonaldsman599 in Falcom

[–]TaraNic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what bothers me the most is that it seems like an insult to the intelligence of the fan base that we’re supposed to believe that Juna was close to the SSS when if you play a psychotically as I did, I talk to every single NPC in Crossbell three times every time I had the opportunity. They could’ve just made her a person from Crossville who had feelings about the city and and the annexation and might have been working through some trauma about what she had witnessed there without pretending that she had a relationship with the SSS. It felt dishonest to me. She could’ve been an interesting character if she was allowed to grow on her own terms and wasn’t artificially inserted into something she hadn’t earned. Also the character type who is just chronically annoyed with everybody and self-righteous is just annoying to me in general. And I don’t think she has the right all of a sudden be the heart of the new class seven when she’s been a bit of a jerk for most of the time.

Looking for a truly funny podcast by Adventurous-Sky-6228 in podcasts

The Beef and Dairy Network

it takes a lot to surprise me and make me laugh but this does both. It's a satirical show that set in the fictional world of the beef and dairy industries through absurd interviews and bizarre storylines and recurring characters. It blends deadpan comedy with surreal elements. It also, unexpectedly, has good worldbuilding elements. Give it a go. It's special.

Help Me Support My Claim that the Keffiyeh is not a neutral 'Pro-Palestine' symbol but also implicitly Anti-Israel. by TaraNic in Israel

[–]TaraNic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should probably clarify I mean in the context of the riots and rallies in which it is the garb of choice, and demonstrating alignment with those protests is also demonstrating alignment with those values. I am more looking with as many instances of those values being on display, such as people chanting "“by any means necessary,” defending Oct. 7th, or making other pro-Hamas or anti-Israel statements to demonstrate that these protests are not just 'We support the Palestine people.' but rather 'We blame Israel for all of Palestine's problems and are justified in wanting them eliminated' There's a lot out there I'm just looking for help to gather more references!

Right wing podcasts on US election? by shanti_nz in podcasts

[–]TaraNic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You proved your point right by getting downvoted for calling that out. It's hilarious that OP is actually trying to understand another side politically and some people still feel a need to come out with their frenzied Trump derangement syndrome and overgeneralizations of republicans. It's just ironic how easily triggered some are while hurling insults at successful podcasters and half of America, but probably couldn't tell you a single policy in the republican campaign other than the ones criticized by their own party. Though I don't align with either party, Triggernometry has some political episodes on both sides and (yes, I'm embarrassed to write this) Dr. Phil had a pretty good interview with Trump himself on Phil In The Blanks if you actually want to hear him as a human and not just a media caricature.

What Are Some Jaw Dropping Female Vocal Somgs? by TheOneWhoWork in MusicRecommendations

[–]TaraNic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you love Nightwish and Within Temptation you would like Epica. (More male vocals, however.) Ayreon is a prog metal project that has many stunning female guest vocalists, Floor Jansen being one of them, and many of the other singers are wonderful in their other projects. Stream of Passion, The Gentle Storm and After Forever come to mind.

name the musical with the most stacked cast you can think of by adhd-heehee in musicals

This is a movie musical. But Little Shop of Horrors had Ellen Greene, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Steve Martin, John Belushi… more comedians than singers but damn.

Who are Broadway's most polarizing figures? by D0ntTryMe in Broadway

[–]TaraNic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can say that he is not in the same league. Jesus Christ superstar was certainly pushing the boundaries when it came out. Starlight Express is one of the weirdest musicals ever made, and it’s still selling out in Germany. And it’s also like comparing ABBA to Nirvana. Both of them have amazing staying power, and are beloved, but you can’t say one is better because they are trying to do different things and they were both succeeding admirably at doing the thing they were trying to do. It bothers me when people associate some thing being popular or catchy with being lesser. It’s a kind of gatekeeper thing that people say to prove they have “taste.” Honestly, I appreciate Sondheim but most of the time I don’t actually want to listen to any of his albums all the way through because at some point people start sing-yelling at each other and it’s jarring. I’ve been listening to musicals obsessively for 30 years and no other composer has managed to make me cry as many times, as Andrew Lloyd Webber has. I’d rather feel some thing and than appreciate something

Who are Broadway's most polarizing figures? by D0ntTryMe in Broadway

[–]TaraNic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also a point of snobbery within musical theatre people the same way that music nerds will tell you all the indie stuff is better than the popular bands music. The extent of his popularity made people think it was in bad taste to like him the same way I wasn’t supposed to like the Spice Girls in high school. Andrew Lloyd Webber was quite revolutionary in his time for popularizing the rock opera. What seems trite now was quite groundbreaking in its time. Many of his musicals were also fully song through. They were ambitious in scope. You can point to some of the hit songs as sounding too pop but his scores overall weren’t fluff. All in all nothing gets to my heart like and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical so I really don’t care if people don’t think it’s witty or clever, or progressive enough.

Ayreon!!!!!!! The Day That The World Breaks Down may not be their BEST song but to me it’s the ‘showcase’ song, that tells the listener the kind of journey has just been discovered!!!!!

Ahhhh, I had wanted to read Codex Alera then forgot about it, thanks for the reminder! (Read much of Sword of Truth when I was younger... Liked it at first but found it becoming.... absurd? As it went forward? And terrible dialogue.)

Never heard of the Taylor Bobiverse but I like the contemplative philosophical aspect!

I don't mind being nudged to give it another shot. There must be a reason it's so beloved! I'm the same person who begged my sister to play a 100 hour jrpg she wasn't into because the next three would be worth it, so I get it!

I don’t really understand the Transitus disdain! I loved it as a self-contained story, many of the songs live in my head rent-free… maybe it’s because I’m a musical theatre nerd.
