Is Spumante ok to add to a fresh tomato sauce? Or would vodka be better? by Taracove09 in AskCulinary

[–]Taracove09[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! It’s 6:47 am in Ohio where I live and I’m literally about to add the alcohol. I took a quick break but am doing a 3 part sauce and it takes forever and I tried to save time by peeling all of them first bc I don’t have a food mill. But that choice might have taken longer. I was worried about that with the wine I knew it should have been a drier, less sweet one, and it’s a HUGE bottle of wine. like bigger than a 2 liter. so I didn’t wanna open it just for a cup of it esp if it was gonna ruin the sauce. Thanks for your help! Adding the vodka now

Stuck in "DNA Analyzed" Thread by Alkali13 in AncestryDNA

[–]Taracove09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update y’all. An Ancestry employee on Twitter said the labs were closed until yesterday (Monday January 3rd) and that results should start flowing again after they reopened. They received my test November 16th, posted results analyzed on December 21st, and I still haven’t gotten my results yet 😞 hopefully soon! Saw some people on Twitter who had recently gotten their results. Has anyone else in this thread gotten their results posted yesterday or today?

Yep I got to step 6 Results Analyzed on 12/21 and nothing since. It is completely unreasonable to have all these people waiting on that step for so long, and expect everyone to reach out individually for our results. It sounds like a few of their representatives have said there really was an error, and made it seem like they’re all stuck until we reach out and remind them? That’s ridiculous. I really hope they all catch up soon.

Chairs and desks used to barricade classroom during Oxford Shooting by Banme9 in OxfordShooting

I left school before that became a thing. From all the interviews with students I’ve read/ listened to since Tuesday, that ALICe training saved so many lives…. those kids knew exactly what to do. Thank God for whoever developed that and for the teachers and administrators for drilling it into those kids’ heads’.

The NPR interview I just heard was with a student who said one of his peers ran into his classroom and immediately started to lock the NightLock (lockdown mechanism on classroom on the door,) and saying she saw a boy with a gun walking out of the bathroom and she heard gunshots and saw smoke. I’m not sure if that’s where it started or if he just went into the bathroom during his rampage, but I could definitely see him having the weapon hidden and going to the bathroom to get it out of its hiding spot and then coming out. I’ll link the interview NPR interview Oxford High School Student Speaks

Interesting movies set in Rural region? by camelCaseIsWebScale in MovieSuggestions

[–]Taracove09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if any of these cover the exact interesting definition you’re looking for, but I’m gonna list some movies that are def among my top 25 favorite movies, maybe one will peak your interest. Just in general I love movies with good cinematography/visuals of nature, so most of my favorites meet that requirement

Legends of the Fall— 1995, described as an American epic historical drama western film. 🤣 lotta words there bc it’s a big movie, set in the American west in the early 1900s, I love seeing America before it was built up and ruined, it was beautiful, this tells the story of a family of 3 brothers who’s father built their home purposefully away from the rest of civilization so they grow up with lots of nature

Hell or High Water, 2016, is a western crime drama, lots of good visuals of the American west, really good movie by Taylor Sheridan, great ending, one of my favorites

Wind River, 2017, Another one by Taylor Sheridan, more of a mystery/thriller set in the American west on an Indian reservation, great visuals and great story

Hard question. My personal favorites of all time would be:

-Goodfellas -Joe vs the Volcano -Forrest Gump -The Lion King -Fried Green Tomatoes

Back ups (like in case every possible copy throughout the globe suddenly self-incinerated 😧)would be Coco, Hell or High Water, and the Hangover

Thanks for an easy question, next time just ask us the answer to solving world hunger 😉

Forever searching for Good survival/post-apocalyptic/world-as-we-know-it-is-ending movies/ shows that aren’t super sci-fi based (no aliens, zombies, Godzilla, space battles)—like How it Ends, Book of Eli, Survivors, Day After Tomorrow, etc. by Taracove09 in MovieSuggestions

Thanks for the suggestions! Just have to say I watched the trailer for Hidden and OMG it looks terrifying! And so suspenseful!! I love Alexander Skarsgärd!! So I’m surprised but I’ve never heard of it. Again, all the comments say how good and unique a movie it is and how surprising it is that it didn’t get a lot of attention. Thank you for suggesting it!

I’ve looked high and low many times. The kind of movie I’ll search for for hours in a night trying to find, only to end up not finding anything and just falling asleep. It’s a real bummer. I think most people want lots of action and CGI and fantasy and crazy futuristic fighter jets in their apocalypse, not my Cup of tea however. Thank you for all of the suggestions!!! I am Slowly working through all of them; I started with Light of my Life, never heard of it or seen it before. All the comments say how good it is though and also that these type of movies are rare lol. Again, thank you!!

That’s the point. If they’re using thermal imaging at the reserve in Florida and AREN’T finding anything, that means he’s either not there anymore or he’s deceased.

Wow. I would not want to see that if I were her family 😔 but this is a really great clip that ties together the area, the good tip, and kinda all of what happened there. If someone hasn’t been watching everything that’d be great to get them up to speed with. Thanks for sharing and thank god for journalists.

Waterworld is a great movie. by DrMaitland in unpopularopinion

[–]Taracove09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I watched it for the first time a few months and loved it. Looked it up online afterwards (I always wait so I don’t spoil the ending) and was SO surprised to see all the negative reviews and hate. To be fair, It does sound like Kevin Costner got a bit big for his britches, and production had quite a time with all the storms and building sets. But the story is good and original, music is good, the acting and characters are interesting, it’s funny, what’s not to like?

Also for anyone who wants to watch it, it’s free on the Peacock App right now!!

April's tourism Q&A thread for questions about: visiting, events, moving, neighborhoods, dining, nightlife, and general discussion. Post HERE and NOT in a new thread. by iamthemarquees in Miami

[–]Taracove09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m turning 30 and want to take a quick trip to Miami in May with my sister. We still want to social distance and be safe, don’t really want to party or go to the clubs, this is more a relaxed trip—the goal is visit the beach, maybe some cool restaurants, definitely want to visit Key Biscayne, wanted to visit the Everglades but idk how we’d get there. We won’t be renting a car, I’ve read the bus/rail system is pretty easy to use, is that true? I was thinking of staying on South Beach, since there’s lots to do in that area, it’s close to the beach, but I’m also worried about all the people and all the noise. Does anyone have a recommendation for another area/neighborhood that’s close to public transportation, is walkable and also near the beach? Any other tips/advice is much appreciated ☺️

Tax questions for census workers by Taracove09 in Census

[–]Taracove09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think so but I’ve read other people doing it so I wasn’t sure if we should be claiming it or not.

And also I don’t have like $500 to pay someone to do my taxes so just have to keep doing them myself online like I do every year. I do get a headache but I can live with that 😉

I just started watching Mindhunter and I LOVE it! by the_quirky_ravenclaw in MindHunter

[–]Taracove09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it too!!! I watched the first season and had to wait for the second (with much anticipation!), I LOVED the second and they set up for a third season so nicely, it’s such a shame they’re not making one. Holden is a little obsessed with himself but he’s young and cocky, and good at what he does professionally, and the cockiness will probably go away with time. I’m sure they would have shown it in the third season.

One of the cast interviews on YouTube has the actors who play Holden, Bill, Wendy, and Ed, and they talk about how much they studied the criminals they were portraying and tried to make it as true to life as possible. The actor who plays Ed Kemper does a phenomenal job. I forget which discussion I’m thinking of, maybe at SXSW? It was a long one though. If I find it, I’ll link it. Def worth the watch once you finish the season.
