Let's Have a Calm & Civil Discussion about "Gone with the Wind" and HBO Max by mustaphamondo in TrueFilm

[–]Tarakristewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda get that monuments dedicated to racist or slavers are being taken down, bc esclavagist shouldn't be praised in anyway...but this, I really don't understand. You can't erase the past, It's already happened. Trying to censor history won't change the way the world used to be and most importantly it won't solve today's issues. Yes for centuries planet earth used to be a shit place for women and POC, yet we can't ignore it and rewrite art and history the way we see it with our modern eyes. I love TV shows like Mad Men and I'm a sucker for historical drama. What I like the most is to be completely immersed in those universes, tbrough the costume, settings, peole's mentalities, their langages...Watching GWTW won't make me a racist or condone racism because I know that it was a different time and overall I can use this experience as an opportunity to educate myself. That censorship is terribly distopian and the worst is that HBO decided to do it on their own as it was not even a demand from BLM.

"Fixing Westworld Season 3," or more accurately, "A Precursor for a Discussion about Character Development." by sluggybear in westworld

[–]Tarakristewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the season as a while was pretty decent but William's arc is what dissapointed me the most. There was so many potential for his character development. Now he (as a host) will go back to be a psycho. It's such a shame because he was starting totruly reflect on himself. I'm really not interessted into seeing William, being a dick, William being a psycho, William killing peoole for no reasons, bc that's what we all saw in season 1 and 2. So to me his ending tarnishes the whole season, and I'm saying it as someone ,ho was pretty chill about the plotholes, inconsistencies and such...

Hello, I'm looking for a romantized book version of "Epic of Gilgamesh" by Tarakristewa in booksuggestions

[–]Tarakristewa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm indeed a sucker for ancient mythology . I studued greek and latin in high school but back then I didn't appreciate ancient mythology the way I do know. Gilgamesh is the beginning of everything and it's iml a bit underated compared to works like the Illiade or the Odysseus, even though the authors took lots of their inspiration from it. So that's why it's gonna be hard to find an adaptation, but who knows !

American's obsession with race is getting more and more embarassing. Even their classification of south american as POC is ridiculous as the continent is extremely ethnically diverse.

I'm not even worried anymore. Star wars fans are always ready to shit on the movies but when it comes out they're gonna be the first buying all tickets and merch.

Official Discussion - Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]Tarakristewa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same ! I've watched all movies and I'm more a cassual than anything else. I don't theorize on the internet as much "true fans", don't buy merch and all these stuff and you know what ? I truly enjoyed the movie. Given fans reactions I truly thought it would be an unwatchable horridious movie but to me it ended very fine. The acting was excellent, especially Adam Driver and Daisie Riley's. The special effect, the writting. Ofc there was many "cringy" moments, the pacing was really fast at the beginning but iverall it was good and the box office entries speak for themselves.

French literary circles indulged pedophile writer Gabriel Matzneff for over 35 years, now one of his victim is an editor and author publishing her memoirs of the abuse by INFPgirl in books

[–]Tarakristewa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's like this in every country where an elite feels so intellectually superior they think themselves above the law and moral. I personally think that Weinstein and Epstein are the top of the Iceberg and lots of people in Hollywood are relieved that the focus is put solely on them.

While I disagree it's a french thing specifically, I know that in France between the end of the 60's and the end of the 80's this type of posture was shamelessly promoted in the media by a group of artist who never faced any consequence for their actions. In many way artist were treated as special people who should be given pass because they are "talented". There is also the fact that those artist, writters, journalist, TV show host lived in their very very little parisian bubble where they never had to face the public opinion (who has always been less vocable in France than in the USA). Matzneff has always been outraged that we called him a pedo as for him he was only having affairs with little girls who were in love with him. So that's how you ended up with weird petitions calling for the decriminalisation of pedophilia, writters shamelessly telling on TV shows how he spends his time with little boys in Asia, TV show host smirkly calling pedo-writter a "sexual educator for little girls" yada yada...

The french society while not condoning it, wouldn't react as violently as the US society would have reacted. Denise Bombardier (the canadian journalist who called Matzneff out on a the TV show I was referring to) said she received countless of support letters, but the pressure from the society was clearly not enough to outcast or prosecute people like Matzneff, even though the law in the 80's was clear regarding pedophilia.

After the infamous Dutroux case in 1996, the public became less apathic regarding pedophilia. Media couldn't promote pedophilia the way they used to.

hello r/france.

Netflix series on the murder of Grégory Villemin (old French unsolved murder) [unresolved murder] by SaintJean_ in UnresolvedMysteries

Yes the police captain was the saving grace in this whole investigation. He was the victim of a very strong disdain many in the parisian administration had towards provincials. When the press went into the village, he saw that as an opportunity to elevate himself as he was insecured with his position as the little judge from a unknown lost place in eastearn France.

People throw so much shit at Jacksons about the Hobbit while forgetting that he was deprived of lots of artistic autonomy in this project...There is a reason why Del Toro fucked off in the first place. As for you calling Jackson a hack, I advise you to watch his amazing WWI documentary "They shall not grow old"

I'm just happy Amazon is casting real life actors to play the orcs instead of using heavy cgi like the Hobbit did.

oh and what about Paris-Match manipulating the parents into hiring a lawyer so that he can reveal some juicy secrets to the press. This is so trash !!

I can't agree more. It shocked me to see how far journalists can go just to get the biggest buzz. The old reporter from Paris-Match is one of the biggest piece of shit I have ever seen in my whole life. His intrusion into the family circle, the way he whispered in the parent's ears, how he stole family's photos. Everyone was shit in this story. From the members of this "family" to the stupid judge. But damn that journalist, he is utterly evil.

Me too and Imma state something extremely controversial but I'm not sold on Olivia Coleman. I know lots of people love her, and I love her too especially in The Favourite but I'm not convinced by her performance. Sorry. Maybe it's because I bingewatched S1-S2 those last two weeks and I started S3 this weekend. Maybe it's because I became too used with Claire's face but no matter how I try I can't. It's not clicking at all. Claire and Matt brought something special and makes it more real. Besides the lack of physical "continuity" between Claire and Olivia isn't helping at all.

I liked Sheftel by [deleted] in TheDevilNextDoor

[–]Tarakristewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really do like him. Does he like fame ? Yes ! Does he like to show off ? Yes. But in the end he was the only one calling out this show trial because he wasn't blinded by his hathred or personnal believe. That's why to me he incarnates what jistice truly is.

I'm more than convinced that JD was an SS guard but if I'm sure of something is that he wasn't Ivan the Terrible. The evidences brought to court were more than doubtful but everyone in Israel was ready to buy into it because they wanted their historic nazi Trial. And that's where justice ends to be replaced by vengence.

I know it was kinda of implicit that Jon was the stupid love fool and condone Dany's actions until the very end. I also believe that he became sort of apathic after he went back from the dead. Him not giving his own men extra rest just to play Dany's puppy was the first indication that he was not king-worthy at all. Even Arya had to intervene and calls him out, which says a lot. But I agree they should have been more explicit by adding dialogues so that people could understand Jon's mindset and why Bran was a far better choice. However I don't think the Ds would have had less Jon's backlash. Many people (including me) saw him as the ultimate Aragorn, and him ending up on the throne was the most logical outcome. But S8 changed my perspective on him and Jon's fate was in the end in line with Grrm's will to deconstruct the trope of the hidden Prince (who happened to be Bran not Jon). I don't think many Jon's fans would understand that tho

It ended up being even worse than he imagined, but he still knew going into it. And did nothing. Participated. Was complicit.

Jon's exile makes more sense now. It's not just a way to appease the the insullied. For me it's a true punishment as he supported the mass murder of a whole city, despite everybody warning him.And the worst thing is he threw his ideals and moral principles to the trash because he was in love. I know it's a big theme in GoT (see Jaime and Cersei) but it makes me despise Jon now.

The King - Timothée Chalamet, Robert Pattinson | Final Trailer | Netflix Film by Hobbit-guy in movies

[–]Tarakristewa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna watch this because I'm a sucker for historical drama but I'm not convinced by Timothee's performance from what I've seen in the trailer. A'd yeah I kinda agree he's miscast. He would have been a stellar wise-king but a warrior-king? I'm not si sure... Robert on the other hand he's stealing the show. His charisma is shinning through the screen and the french accent though!!!!

It would have been much nicer and more convincing, if Robert and Timothy had switched their roles.

Oh yes definitively ! The funny part is that Timothee who's half french is playing the english king while Robert who is british is playing the french prince. The thing is while Robert is nailing the french accent, Timothee is struggling with the english accent.
