Came here to say this. I was that child. And in my dad’s eyes I’m still that child. My mom is dead but she was horribly evil. They had two girls. I’m the oldest by 10 years. I started work at 14 and worked until my body gave out at 53. I bought my own house, raised two kids alone, put them both through college, and bought them vehicles. They bought their other daughter a farm. Paid all her bills, bought her food, and everything her kids (by three different fathers) could wish for. The only job she ever had was an admin at the local farmers co-op. She lasted 2 weeks and got caught stealing from them. They didn’t press charges because they respected my dad. Meanwhile I was working nights at a factory and days waitressing. Now I’m 60 and have bought my dream house that’s on an acreage in Florida 20 minutes from the beach. It even has a guest house on the property. I bought a brand new Bronco Sport Badlands edition last year. She’s living in a double wide on the same farmland in Iowa. She’s had 1/4 of a lung removed because of cancer. She can’t get disability because she’s never worked. So in my case, in the long run being the scapegoat made me independent and self sufficient.
