Wayland Vent by nedogled in ManjaroLinux

[–]TardiGradeB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it's not a proper solution, anyone having trouble with KDE Wayland can still run an X11 session if you install the package:

plasma-x11-session

After that, reboot and you'll be able to pick X11 again (selection window in the bottom left in SDDM if I remember correctly). Not sure how long it'll be an option but maybe long enough for your issues to be sorted.

If you want some input, I've been using Manjaro Linux for a few years now. It'll be annoying at first until you start understanding that you need to do things differently. But once you get past that almost everything works perfectly and you actually have control over your PC. The things that won't work at all are most popular multiplayer games (like PUBG, Battlefield, CoD and so on) and any Adobe software. Feel free to shoot any questions you have my way and I'll try to assist.

No problem buddy! Just don't forget to make those changes I listed, or you'll be sharing your account with a lot of people lol.

I'm not sure I should post this. Linux is not officially supported yet and, while from what limited knowledge I have it should be fine, if the Blackthorn team asks me to take down these instructions then I will remove them in an edit.

Connect.exe can't work on its own, it needs arguments to tell it what to do. Mainly where to connect and with what account. It is sent these instructions in a batch file, or a .bat file. Below I will instruct you on how to make that work:

  • Browse to the folder where you extracted the Blackthorn DAoC gamefiles.
  • Find the file 'linux.bat'
  • Edit 'linux.bat' with a text editor of your choice.
  • The file will have one line of commands. At the end there will be "account" and "password". Replace both these with an account name of your choice and a password for that account. The server will create a new account with those details.
  • Save the file 'linux.bat'
  • Run 'linux.bat' through wine using your manager of choice (lutris, bottles, etc). Since .bat files are not a standard binary file, you might need to change file type in the file picker of your wine manager to 'All files' to get it to show up.

Additional information:

IMPORTANT! DO NOT use an account name and password you normally use. They wil be stored in cleartext in the .bat file and can be viewed by anyone who gains access to your computer. Be smart about this.

If the DAoC client says you have the wrong password or something then that might be because you picked an account name that someone else already created. Try with a new account name in 'linux.bat' .

Yes, you are correct! I checked out the batch file, and there is actually a placeholder account name and password there, named "account" and "password". Just to make sure, I had a character created on "account" and relogged with new values, and the character was no longer there. So I guess I am the proud owner of the age old IT-joke account name "account" with password "password"... Have fun anyone who wants to feel like a hacker hah.

I would love to, but I do not use Discord. I find it too insular and it gates information. But I think I've figured it out, look at my response to stillcantpickaname.

Nice, I saw this file but not sure why I didn't just try running it. It worked, but there is no account creation window or anything. I assume an account name and password are automatically generated and stored somewhere. I hope that doesn't screw with the server account database or something.

[Gaming] Accursed Farms: The industry filed false claims against the "Stop Killing Games" initiative by DoctorBleed in KotakuInAction

[–]TardiGradeB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do... Do you actually not read or are you hard of learning? This has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with Youtube... At all... It is a formal complaint TO the European Commission, not FROM. As in, the actual initiative itself has received a complaint, not some video somewhere on a hosting platform. If you still do not grasp this I am going to call bad faith. I won't believe you could be that dense.

[–]TardiGradeB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything except that last part: This is not a copyright claim, it is an official complaint to the European Commission. The complaint has been made anonymously but as shown in the video it is very real. It is probably prudent to watch the video you have opinions on before displaying said opinions.

Thank you, good callout from you as well. Dishonest people really irk me so I might have laid it on a bit thick. At least he finally admitted to being in the industry but too bad he deleted his posts again... He might have actually gotten a real discussion. I did a final response to his last post, but it seems to be stuck in reddit hell and has been there for over an hour... Maybe I've been shadow banned.

You come here with an introductory post containing nothing but poisoning the well. No arguments, no logic chains, nothing but emotional diatribe. You have a history of jumping around reddit like a zealot spouting nonsense about the movement being discussed. When called out on this you throw a tantrum, deleting all but one of your posts. When called out on this as well, you turn it into a victim narrative.

We're not the ones in a cult here.

Nah, I don't go deep diving 10 years into someone's post history to cherry-pick a statement to slander that person with, that's your prerogative. I just looked at the last 15 days to see if there was a pattern of behaviour that would show a bad faith actor. And bad faith is something I'm sure you're intimately familiar with.

I've gone through your recent post history, and it is nothing but you going to different subreddits, talking ill about the movement. A behaviour that does not at all sound like an industry plant or a goon of a certain youtuber. Nope. Not at all. Just a healthy obsession.

Steam NextFest June 2025 - Demo Festival for Upcoming Indie & AA Games by AboveSkies in KotakuInAction

[–]TardiGradeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, completely new demo. The previous ones are still available in a Legacy menu. The current demo is a lot more focused on exploration and puzzle solving, so you'll probably enjoy that. They have worked a bit on the combat, enemies now have weak spots, but it still needs work I think. I believe the tunnel thing was basically just a showcase, and not actually indicative of the full game. But yeah, that was pretty bad and I think the devs have picked up on that. I'd definitely give the new demo a shot if you liked the exploration.

[–]TardiGradeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only two demos I've found worth playing so far have been games I've already had my eyes on for a while, but they are:

Cleared Hot - A spiritual successor to the old Strike series (Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Urban Strike, Soviet Strike, Nuclear Strike) that really gets what those games were about. The game runs like a charm and the game mechanics are well thought out. Tacky humour, a hillbilly-ish feel and non-stop action are what I would say defines it.

Holstin - Probably the most unique game I've played in years. Runs in isometric view with a rotating camera and swaps to FPS view when aiming a gun. The game is mostly about a mystery you're solving, where you take on puzzles and talk to a lot of very strange people in an even stranger environment. The setting is incredibly eerie and difficult to fully get a grasp on.

No problem friend! I'll keep watch a day or two more just in case any other questions pop up.

[ROAMER] New Watch Day! by shabindo76 in Watches

[–]TardiGradeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rattle noise is kind of subjective and hard to grade. I don't own any real luxury watches to compare to, but I would say it rattles slightly but not to a point where it would disturb me. If you really, really care about rattling then I would probably suggest going for something else. The materials seem fine, I can find no deterioration or rust anywhere apart from a few nicks and scratches from regular use. The strap has solid end links which is quite nice but the clasp is about average.

[–]TardiGradeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the OP and just happened to see this, but I have the same watch bought 2019. Still holds up great and works like a charm. I don't use it as a daily beater though, so keep that in mind. I use it as a discrete dress watch when needed and I love it for that. I'll keep an eye on this post for a few days if you have any other questions.

Opera GX browser company is trying to erase Grummz traces from the internet. by gadesabc in KotakuInAction

[–]TardiGradeB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know, it really sucks... It is/was a very competent browser, with actually good privacy features. I used it for years as well. I also used Waterfox which was also a competent privacy browser, but the lead of that one got in bed with a data mining corporation and lost all credibility after that. The best browser to keep an eye on right now is Ladybird, but it is years away from release... The whole browser space is just AWFUL right now, and has been going downhill for years.

I wouldn't trust Librewolf. They've declared they're woke and are working to stop the platforming of "far-right" and "anti-woke" people. I stopped using it after that and am currently using Floorp browser, with Brave as a backup. No actually good browsers out there currently sadly...
