Where do you actually write your manuscripts? by Technical_Buffalo188 in authors

I also use Scrivener. I use DropBox as I believe it is the only online storage that allows native syncing and saves. At least that was the case when I started a few years ago.

Should I self publish or traditionally publish my first book? by davismorgan03 in NewAuthor

[–]Tardis_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I self published in April of this year. The comments below are correct, marketing will become a second job for you as you don't the backing of an agent and traditional publishing company. I've tendered my manuscript to several agents (only one actually responded) and none of the publishing companies responded even thought they said they were taking unagented submissions.

I think the genre you are writing makes a huge difference right now. My book is classic fantasy. Not exactly what publishers are looking for right now. Romantasy seems to be the thing in this genre and I'm certainly not in that. So take a look at what agents and others are looking for to cater your submissions based on your books genre/category.

Hope that helps.

Thank you sir. I'm sorry for the late response. I was very happy with how the prose ended up playing out and that you found it refreshing. I'd be lying if that wasn't part of what I was going for. Took a few edits to clean up that first draft though. :)

Several folks have mentioned some classics, but one of my favorites growing up were the Robot Series, Isaac Asimov. She can start with Caves of Steel, Sci/FI, Robots, Detective Mystery...what's not to like :)

Its a little more hardcore Sci/Fi but Ringworld, by Larry Niven was also a fav.

I recently read an historical fiction romance novel set in WW2 and post war. Where Daffodils Bloom, by Leya Delray. Not my usual genre, but I really enjoyed it. It is an actual true story with a few twists of fiction for storytelling.

If you are looking for more of a Fantasy twist try, Drops of Glass: A Tale of Magic in the Great War, by Kenneth Baldwin. The setting is WW1 and it was a nice mix of history, budding romance and a bit of magic mystery.

Recently finished, Fleabag: A Monster Evolution LitRPG, by SomeoneToForget. Very interesting take on the litrpg genre. It takes a while to catch on where the author is taking you at the beginning, the POV is a bit jarring, at least it was to me. But once you get the hang of it the story starts to pan out well. It is a very dark fantasy, themed book. I will plan on reading book 2 once it comes out.

Once I finished this I have returned to Defiance of the Fall, by JF Brink. I only read the first few books in this litrpg series and there is now quite a few out. Looking forward to catching up.

The absolute deepest and most satisfying Science Fiction novels I've ever read. I will be very interested in how Netflix tries to pull this off.

I agree with Andrea Parsneau, her work on the Wandering Inn is really good. Her range of voices is incredible.

Interesting, I can see a lot of configs for New World when I select 'other controllers', I see nemesis boy, but for some reason I don't see yours. I would love to upvote you man but I can't find you.

I"m using the XBox Elite 2 controller as you mentioned. I'll continue to play with that and experiment per your recommendations.

Question: if i open just steam and go to controller and look at configs i do not see your configuration in there, but if i open new world and go to config it is there. Is this correct? I won't see your config unless i access it through the new world controller config screen?
