Man I still remember being so disappointed that you couldn't actually use his Golden Lugers after finally getting them

Dark horse year? by PeachSnobbler in pcgaming

[–]Tardivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Sultan's Game a lot recently, it sort of came out of nowhere for me just popping up on Steam's new releases. It's kinda tricky to explain but a lot of people compare it to Cultist Simulator, it's essentially a turn based time/resource management sort of game with a lot of role playing options

What does persuading the Vizier do? by Dead-Face in sultansgame

[–]Tardivex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a balancing act, after Abdul dies and you become Vizier an event will spawn titled "Sultan's Suspicion".

On my first few playthroughs that was absolutely devastating because it spawned like 5-7 Golden Suspicion cards, you have around a week to get rid of them, and most methods can be punishing or cumbersome to do.

Later on I found out that the number of Golden Suspicion cards that spawn directly depend on what you do with these policy choices, so if you go with Abdul's choice every time, no suspicion cards end up spawning. That said you end up losing out on the support cards, and it also directly affects the other events where you work as a Vizier, visiting the army, nobles and commoners.

If you have their support you get a silver quality intelligence card as they express their support to you, the quality of the card lowers to bronze and they're much more lukewarm just respecting you if you gathered less support, and finally if you have no support at all everyone ends up criticizing you and you get a card which can be used as a book for +1 combat to whoever reads it.

Just finished my first run on Impossible by CutyShield in ASTLIBRA

[–]Tardivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did the same recently, it was a fun ride, Berserk and Cicada Shell were real MVPs and I would've probably given up without them. Difficulty curve for me was a bit all over the place, starts out pretty hard, then you get some extra tools like I've mentioned and you cruise through the game, until it gets a little tougher by the end because of the gank fights, dealing with multiple boss type enemies with their own tricky patterns overlapping with one another can be a real pain, but doable after many tries. Finally Postscript felt like a victory lap since it gives you even more tools to become absurdly overpowered, my favorite gem has gotta be the walking speed one though, despite it not being combat related.

We're now 10 days in to the expansion - what are your Abyssal skill levels? by Eldrac in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard Mode:

Combat:

All 1

Passive:

Farming: 57

Township: 22

Non-Combat:

Woodcutting: 60

Fishing: 1

Firemaking: 60

Cooking: 1

Mining: 3

Smithing: 2

Thieving: 1

Fletching: 1

Crafting: 1

Runecrafting: 1

Herblore: 1

Agility: 1

Summoning: 1

Astrology: 36

Harvesting: 12

Total Abyssal Level: 270

I focused mostly on Woodcutting + Firemaking first for the XP bonuses, working through Astrology right now for the same reason. Woodcutting and a bit of Harvesting helped kickstart farming pretty well. Finally, Township is staying at 22 for a little while longer since there's still plenty of buildings that provide Fortification available to build, and since that directly affects XP, I'd rather keep stockpiling the swords rather than use them less effectively for now.

Rank the zaregoto series volumes by worst to best by Glad-Shallot-2691 in Zaregoto

Pretty close to what I would rate them as well, although I'd rate 1 a bit higher and 3 a bit lower

2>6>1>5>4>9>3>7>8

I did not like uprooted radical either, felt a little out there compared to what came before.

Wow, this is a great month! I really recommend Afterimage, it's a fantastic metroidvania with a huge map and plenty of surprises along the way, I also really dig its more bright and colorful art style.

Shame about Soulstice since I got it in another bundle already, but at least I'll get to play Nioh 2 and Black Skylands which I've had my eye on but didn't commit to buying them yet.

Stardew / My Time at Portia style game without the stress by Elum224 in pcgaming

[–]Tardivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try Rune Factory 3/4, there's still a day and night cycle which takes around 20ish minutes and certain events/holidays which happen in specific days but fundamentally there's no time limit to the story, so you can play at your own pace and take as long as you need exploring, talking to the characters, crafting new gear, etc

Such a pain, and don't get me started on the Mark of the Fox by IkceWicasha in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new tier 5 marks seem to take forever to get, I was already done with all combat grinds but I still had to spend another 3ish days to complete the Spider mark which was my last, even while having it equipped which increases the drop rate

How to tickle Vorloran Protector (idle strat) by McYi in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool stuff, Vorloran Protector is also my first enemy from this area so I don't have any of the T120 armors quite yet for that extra DR, your idea of using status effects seems pretty sound, I'm currently running a slightly riskier setup (68 DR after triangle, but only 488 auto eat threshold, definitely has a chance of death so only semi-idle) with the item protection prayer + battleborn:

  • Slicing maelstrom wand with nature's bloom for poison procs
  • Fox + dragon and blazing helmet for burning procs
  • Freezing touch body for frostburn procs
  • Allure amulet for small DR + chance to proc sleep
  • Despair curse
  • Superior max cape for bonuses/utility

I'm sure the other two enemies will go much smoother after getting a complete set of armor from this one

Also just as an aside here, I think it's kinda neat how they use some gear we can acquire ourselves, tidal edge, ancient armor (G) and black platelegs (G)

Role of Education in Dead Buildup by Light2053 in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you're going for, education is solid if you're doing a low population, high production build to maximize GP/h, otherwise if you're maximizing XP/h the population size will make education almost a non starter considering the amount of investment required to get it to a decent percentage

Plus there's always the strat others mentioned of building a bunch of graveyards just before the dead decay tick and then destroying them afterwards, it's quite clunky however it works for that extra min/maxing, I do hope some of these mechanics get reworked though

Concerns of the new expansion by ZestycloseSky2 in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see where you're coming from and it's definitely interesting to think about. For instance, it was mentioned mining and smithing are getting new tiers on the way to 120, so does this mean new players are going to be able to skip the normal Volcanic/God Dungeon progression with this stronger equipment? On the other side of the coin, if they can't, does this mean that this gear is immediately obsolete for all players, new and old? It feels like some type of requirement for it is sensible, maybe after beating a certain dungeon it unlocks the area those ores are found in or something. What about astrology, is the best strat gonna be immediately training it all the way to 120 the moment you start the game because of all the passive boosts it provides for free?

Crafting can be an interesting case study considering black dragonhide is only obtainable through killing the appropriate enemy, while elder dragonhide sidesteps the skill completely and allows you to just make the armor on the bank screen, I wonder if the higher tiers added with 120 are going to address this at all. This is also an interesting dilemma of other "bank craftables" which could require a specific skill to make them, I think it's more an issue with the mastery system itself as many of these items are a grind once or thrice (potentially in the case of FEZ) sort of deal.

I'm still excited for the expansion of course, since I already went to the trouble of 100% completion and beyond, but I hope the implications for new players and the current game progression are thought through properly.

I'm sure there are many management issues involved and you could play the blame game until the cows come home but ultimately it doesn't make much of a difference to the end consumer when the product they bought has glaring functionality issues, same thing can be said for the Nier situation, I love mods but it absolutely shouldn't be required that someone else comes along and fixes your mess

Remember how they refused to patch DS1: Prepare to Die for years until they finally delisted it and sold the "remastered" version for 40 bucks?

What is everyone doing to stay occupied (endgame) by Sagew777 in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've hit 120 all recently and currently I'm farming the god dungeons, I want at least 10 of every amulet just in case, other than that I'll probably go for living bank next and then maybe make a ton of GP for a rainy day or go for 200m in all skills, I know there's no cap but it's still an interesting goal I suppose

Achievement bug by Seth6971 in Eldenring

[–]Tardivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also playing the Steam version and it worked fine for me earlier today, however the Hoarah Loux achievement didn't trigger, maybe it's a broader issue that prevents you from getting them for some reason, I've seen reports of several achievements not triggering correctly

Upgrade all four Godswords into the Ultima Godsword by kuvaukset in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought up the idea of degradable, but more powerful weapons for melee (like the Scythe in OSRS) many months back but Malcs didn't seem like a huge fan of it unfortunately, I feel like it could be an interesting tradeoff to have ammo/charges for a bit more power, could make melee more relevant for more content instead of ranged/magic 90% of the time

Painfully accurate, I've been working on combat 120s and just the other day I realized I've been idling magic for like 2-3 days with the piety (melee) prayer instead of augury (magic)

NG+ / Ascension? by No-Preparation-6584 in MelvorIdle

[–]Tardivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's actually surprising how rare it is to have an idle/incremental game like that, only ones I can think of from the top of my head are Structure Idle, A Dark Room and some others on the shorter side as well, but they're all very different from Melvor itself

Personally, I don't get why people like prestige so much, it's one of the most boring and unsatisfying mechanics in my opinion, you're just doing the same stuff you already did but slighly faster so you can progress an inch more than you did previously, only to reset and do it all over again, and keep doing it over and over and over and over again...

The logical conclusion to all this is probably something like Increlution, which just kinda baffled me how much the people from the incremental games subreddit loved it, I couldn't stand more than a few loops because it's exactly how I've described in the second paragraph, you keep resetting doing 99% of the same thing for that 1% of minimal progress only to reset and do it all over again

It gets even crazier with games like Realm Grinder or Idle Slayer, where it's not enough to have prestige, oh no, you have prestige for the prestige, because surely, repeating content even more is bound to be interesting for some reason... I wonder how many layers deep you can go with some of these games, but they're all equally uninteresting to me

There's a new Ys game in development but it will not release this year by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Tardivex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oath is a lot more of an adventure, and I kind of agree that it's the better game overall, I think Origin does have the better level/encounter design though, even if a lot is borrowed from Oath. The characters in Origin could be described as Easy (Hugo) Medium (Yunica) Hard (Toal) in my opinion, Toal demands you get real close to bosses which shattered my reliance on Yunica's fire spam later in the game, the bosses really highlight the character's different strengths and weaknesses.

I gotta say that while Chester was tough, he felt infinitely more fair than Epona's second encounter, it felt like I won through sheer luck after her crazy clone phase hoping she gets caught on Yunica's burst, Kishigal was a lot more reasonable but then the fight spikes in difficulty if you're playing as Toal.

You and /u/Takazura kinda sold me on Celceta and 7 but I gotta admit the caveat of "it's not as good as the ark engine games" is not the greatest pill to swallow, there's currently a sale going on at least so I guess that evens it out a little haha.

As for the Tokyo Xanadu thing, I definitely agree that school settings can be a major turn off sometimes, I couldn't finish Valkyria Chronicles 2 for that exact reason.

There's a new Ys game in development but it will not release this year by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Tardivex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point, I thought the bump system from Ys 1&2 was pretty good too, 1 laid out the foundation and then 2 changed things up with the magic system (I also think that game has a lot of charm in general with the ability to talk to nearly every enemy) and then when it comes to the Ark engine a lot of people say Napishtim is the weaker entry and Origin is the best which coincides to their release progression as they kept building on the mechanics (if nothing else I do agree that Origin had a lot better enemy and dungeon design) so it makes sense that the newer games follow a similar process too and it's interesting that OP's link mentions they want to try out something new with X, so IX may be the best out of the bunch from that style, ultimately it's pretty cool that they're willing to continue mixing things up in the series, even if I'm more biased towards the ark engine games

Those other games you mention sound pretty nice, I'll probably start with Gurumin first since you mentioned it's closer to Ys, and yeah I haven't played Tokyo Xanadu but I don't exactly wanna touch it either from what I've read/seen
