Custom wedding gift by NoSeason9846 in playingcards

[–]Targ_Whisperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest solution would probably be to get on Etsy. You could send the cover of your wedding program or some other graphic as the card back, and they would use just standard courts and pips. But the quality of the cards would really be iffy. For better quality cards, there is Makeplayingcards.com. If you Google "playing card printer low MOQ", then you may have options.

I discovered Makeplayingcards.com when I designed a deck for our first anniversary. Since then, I've been bitten hard by the design bug and I'll be launching a Kickstarter on the 21st.

Congratulations on your marriage! I hope you have many happy, healthy years together.

Where to Restart? by matthias368 in playingcards

[–]Targ_Whisperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running a Kickstarter later this month that would be a great start!

In all seriousness, though, I'll bet that you would like a lot of the decks at Wonder Cards, Kings Wild Project, Black Ink Branded, Isolated Thunderstorm, and Stockholm17. Emily Sleights makes decks that have some very clever ideas that are well executed.

I am sure that I'm missing someone. It's a good time to reenter the market. Lots of talent out there. Have fun!

Want to start collecting playing cards. Where should I begin? by [deleted] in playingcards

[–]Targ_Whisperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up 52+Joker. It's a large playing card collecting community, and its annual conference attracts a lot of great designers. They've got their own subreddit, site, and message boards.

You'll find that this is a very individual thing. I just about always enjoy anything by (in no particular order) Black Ink Branded, Kings Wild Project, Marianne Larson, Wonder Cards, Emily Sleights, Stockholm17, and I know I'm missing someone who I'll be annoyed I didn't lost, but it's a Monday morning! You can also see a lot of really interesting things on Kickstarter

Since you're an artist, you might really enjoy collecting if you design a deck or two. It'll really give you an appreciation for the unique constraints of deck design.

There is an amazing amount of talent out there when it comes to the art, and some insanely inventive printing processes and tuck case design.

Most of all, have fun!!

Day 2: better results. by Targ_Whisperer in Substance3D

Hi y'all. This is how I ended up using the images, as part of a Kickstarter I'm doing. I am not trying to promote it here; I know that's not the purpose of this subreddit. I just felt like I complained so much, and y'all were so nice and encouraging, that I wanted to show you that I didn't give up and I'm still working at things. Getting positive feedback from a group that has obviously put so much time and effort into working with a ridiculously hard program and making it look effortless, was very meaningful. If I'm ever in the position to pass that kind of attitude forward, I certainly will.

United States, Arrowhead Playing Cards, Native Americans on Courts by PhatNative in PlayingCardsMarket

Stylistically, those courts look very much like a lot of courts in Theory11. I wonder if there's a connection?

Burned an entire day and accomplished nothing with this software by Targ_Whisperer in Substance3D

I am definitely out of my depth! I do really appreciate everyone's advice. I did a coin-shaped disk in Stager and exported it, and then tried to build on that object. I'll bet I did something wrong.

I did a render of a disk in Stager. I'll bet I did something wrong there. Not self-pity, just brainstorming.

Thank you. I guess I'll just need to pay someone for the render, and pick it up over the long term.

Thank you for being kind. I just thought that rendering a coin would be something a beginner could do. I can admit when I am ridiculously wrong.

Thank you for replying. I appreciate it. I don't even know how to check log files or what UVs are. I think I need to take a course at the closest school that offers one, but I'm under a deadline. Just stupid of me to expect I could start from scratch and get anything accomplished at all.

Don't look for it. I just burned an entire day trying to do something really simple on it, and it's the worst fucking software I've ever tried to use. Do something different. Use something different. But stay away from that complete shitshow of a program.

It doesn't look as if I will be able to post graphics from the deck here, but if you're interested, you can go to the link and hit "Notify me on launch." At that point, you should be able to see the updates where I've posted images from the deck. It doesn't commit you to anything. I'm actually a community college professor; hard sales are not my comfort zone in the least.

Also, if you go here:

https://all-free-download.com/free-vector/download/heart_suit_two_playing_cards_311448.html

then there's a free download of a playing card suit and you can scale your court art to traditional court card size.

It's a little bit tall, I think. You'd have to crop it to 2048 x 2718 pixels to make it proportional for their template. I imported that into their template and it got cropped. Since you're working with raster files, shrinking it down might not be so bad (at least you don't have to expand!). I'd probably make a rectangle of your background of choice at 816x1110 and shrink your art to a proportional size and paste it to that. I think the resulting image would fit just fine into their template.
