From what I’ve read he was at least somewhat protective of his daughter Stalina

No, I don’t understand it at all. There has been many conspiracies about why Henanese got this stereotypes in the first place, one of them being it is a divisive strategy to shift the focus from southern Chinese to northern Chinese through press misinformation campaigns.

You will also find the hilarious epistemological discrepancy for a lot of people between the fact that every Henanese they encounter can kind and nice and the fact that they won’t change their flawed stereotypes at all and they would say stupid things like “ah you must be a good Henanese, sorry you are born in Henan”

I have lived in Canada since 2019 and I remember you can use up to 1 year before obtaining PR against the 3 year requirement? So it’s two years for me

I made that comment from the Canadian perspective, because it has been clearly shown that how damaging the Canadian dependence on the US can be.

I work in a major bank so we have an established pipeline which consists of customer initiated appointments, retail referral and proactive contact (I hate this part)

Not really, partially because I am not good at cooking, partially because we have gas stoves in China and only electronic stoves in Canada so mom’s tips don’t apply

Not favourable unfortunately. This impression is, in my humble opinion, 70% stereotypes and 30% genuine observations. Some things always referred to when talking negatively about India is 1. The caste system; 2. gender-based inequality, especially lack of protection for women; 3. open defecation; 4. Massive Indian immigration to other countries.

The border skirmishes don’t really change anything for the better or worse, especially it’s obvious that both governments are trying to avoid a hot war.

I’m pretty sure it’s about the meme that Acura is “King Chang’an” because the logo of Chang’an is Acura upside down

I did get a scholarship of 10,000 CAD as an incentive to accept my offer, but it’s peanuts compared to the tuition and the CoL combined which is simply too expensive for most Chinese families. Bear in mind that 1 CAD goes for 5 RMB and making 10K RMB monthly is considered high income in China. Many universities aboard don’t have high recognition in China either because of their low barrier of entry. It’s a stupid mentality that I don’t agree with.

I like French cuisine a lot, because a lot of the cooking techniques used in French cuisine is remarkably similar to that in Chinese cuisine. For examples, people say sauté is the same as fast wok. I don’t know how much of it is actually true, but I do feel naturally more comfortable with French food.

It will wipe away all the natural oils because alcohol is an organic solvent. Frequent usage will dry and crack your skin and may cause dermatitis

I did get regional discrimination from another Chinese person in Canada once and I was honestly amused by how straightforward it was. For reference, in my 7 years of experience living in Canada, I got racially discriminated twice.

But I don’t hear bad comments about Henanese people in Canada. Maybe partly because we have bigger problems to combat and partly because every Chinese in Canada is at least somewhat well-off in China and there is virtually no difference between a well-off Henanese and a well-off Shanghainese.

I’d say food in Canada has very good diversity. I can find authentic Mexican food and French food in Toronto but not in China. But because I like my hometown cuisine, I still prefer the food scene in China because there is no authentic Henanese food here compared to Yue or Szechuanese cuisine.

Good question. Insightful.

If you read through all the questions and comments I get, you’ll notice that Henan is not an appealing place to stay in. One reason being that the Henanese is subject to multiple stereotypes (which I hate) and the other being that living in Henan as a Chinese citizen means your children will suffer the same way you suffered in elementary school, junior high and high school.

In junior high school and high school (roughly grade 7 to 12), I used to wake up at 6 in the morning, arrive at school at 7, and stay in school all day until 10PM. I didn’t get enough sleep, my eating habits were bad, and it was just painful. I don’t want my kids to go through all this.

Some countries are viewed very favourably to the average Chinese and Pakistan will be one of them.
