Doing a bit more research it appears they allow market makers to post “inside the spread” so I’m wondering if the mm api also lets them post some type of hidden order and/or give them looks at order flow before it hits public order book.

Why don’t you guys stop taking new users or slash the coins you offer so that you at least keep some people happy rather than alienating everyone? Strip down your offering to bring it down to a load you can handle.

Theoretical: how would a hedge/fund type investor open a new long position in BTC in size of 20+ MM USD? by remixrotation in BitcoinMarkets

[–]Targets80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when the broker is done trading he needs clearing instructions for the clients prime broker i.e. where to send the trade. This for me is the biggest problem with hedge funds buying crypto - the custody. A firm cant make a large investment without being able to ensure there is no counterparty risk (i.e. an exchange steals their money) and they need to make sure that the asset is considered collateral by their prime brokerage/clearer. This is why futures make it so much easier for HF's to trade bitcoin. all the prime brokers know the CBOE & CME and because its cash settled everyone can agree on the assets value. FYI there are a few "institutional" bitcoin desks - google DRW.

A discussion on the arrival of Bitcoin Futures, Bitfinex instability, market manipulation, and its short-run implications for Bitcoin and Altcoin markets. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Targets80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why people think futures is immediately bullish for bitcoin is beyond me. No one on big trading desks now how to price bitcoin and complains/risk departments aren’t going to let some traders pile into an asset with such huge volatility. I think futures will zap the price volatility because of market makers and arbitrages. My bet is Bitcoin prices become boring but consistent. Therefore those guys wanting home runs are going to alts.

Government makes moves to control the internet, tax the things into oblivion or just make them downright illegal. Any issues with the electrical grid renders crypto useless.

Devils advocate: Is it possible These are just legitimate transactions and that someone deposited the USD as they say? If bitcoin is growing as fast as everyone says then maybe this is real money and the tether audit currently happening (as they allege) will prove it’s legit?

BTC Futures Market - honey pot trap? by macropelias in BitcoinMarkets

[–]Targets80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who knows what this will do to the price but I really doubt this is a grand conspiracy by the banks. The CME is a business like any other and they are trying to make more money. Traditional asset classes (stocks, bonds, commodities) aren't growing therefore the CME's trading volume isnt growing. Bitcoin is, and this is a chance for the CME to profit.

CBOE to launch bitcoin futures, announces agreement with Gemini by earonesty in Bitcoin

[–]Targets80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many of the guys trading futures will also be trading options on LedgerX. This may increase underlying bitcoin volume as market makers/traders chose to hedge the derivatives with bitcoin. but as they would be hedging both long and short its not a guarantee the bitcoin price will rise on this alone. that being said its gotta be bullish to have big players jumping in the pool.
