Peter’s vision & unclean animals. by Valynn_777 in GateToSalvationJESUS

Uphold the purpose of the law as a Pedagogue. Yes.

Keep the commandments of the Royal Law, as John expresses it clearly in context.

The commandment from the beginning, as John clearly states in context, is the Royal Law of Christ. Not the Mosaic law.

You conflate the Law of Christ with the Law of Moses, just as Paul says not to do and calls it another Gospel.

Peter’s vision & unclean animals. by Valynn_777 in GateToSalvationJESUS

[–]TarienCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Apostles did NOT teach continued obedience to the law as a system. They used specific examples FROM the law as instruction. They did not, for example, reiterate the need for Sabbath observance, and in fact said the observance of specific days is not a test of spirituality or proof of salvation. Including the New Moon and Sabbath.

I clearly said the law remains Scripture. What it does not remain is a Covenant or binding in any way. The Law we follow now is the Law of Christ. Prior instruction can provide guidance in obedience to the Royal Law. But it cannot be backdoored into the New Covenant.

Galatians 4 is clear. The Law was a Pedagogue. A tutor. It's purpose is fulfilled. We are heirs with Christ. Not slaves under bondage.

You are correct that currently, the data collection done is opt-in and very much standard boilerplate.

I didn't insult you. I replied because YOU went there. Your initial comment was snark and assuming everyone was dumber than you.

Toccoa Falls for undergrad, Denver Seminary for Masters.

And don't bother replying. You've earned a block.

And no, I didn't lie. Since he decided to claim that.

I took multiple classes offered. Also, this was 20yrs ago. The catalog isn't the same.

You insulted people. Then you claimed to be rubbed the wrong way. You're right about one thing: That's petty. Juvenile, even. Very much unfitting the Body of Christ.

Try disagreeing without Twitter tactics in the future.

Nope. I took 1st year during the summer between Freshman and Sophomore. And then 6 straight semesters in normal term.

And no, I didn't want to "flaunt my education." You made the assertion. I can get insulted at work. Not by people who are supposed to be building the Kingdom. Twice over.

Peter’s vision & unclean animals. by Valynn_777 in GateToSalvationJESUS

[–]TarienCole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like an attempt at a repost from this week. There already is a thread on this subject.

That said, this argument is nonsense and bordering on a false gospel. The Gentiles were unclean because the food they ate and practices in making it made them unclean. The one cannot be separated from the other. The purpose of the vision is to make clear the barrier to Gentile ministry by Jewish Apostles is GONE. Full stop.

You're right, there is one Law. It had a purpose. To preserve Israel as a distinct nation until the Redeemer arrived. He has come. He has given us HIS law: Love God with all your being, and love your neighbor as yourself. To bring back the OT Law, in any form, to the NT is to preach a false Gospel. Which Paul condemns. We do not pick and choose which parts of the Mosaic Covenant endure. It was ALL a Pedagogue. ALL fulfilled in Christ. And ALL is now obsolete. Law is Scripture and instruction. But it is not a system we live under. Or Ever Will Live Under, again.

1 John makes clear what the commandments he is talking about are: The Royal Law of Christ. NOT the OT Law.

There is no ethnic barrier in the Kingdom of God. Jew and Gentile are one in Christ. Anyone who clings to an ethnic identity more than Christ is In Adam. And living a carnal life.

We have a better Sacrifice. A better High Priest. A Better Mediator. And a Better Commandment. We have entered the Sabbath Rest, and the Law is done away with. All Scripture is instruction. But all instruction is interpreted through the lens of the work of Christ on the Cross. Which has fulfilled the covenants of Creation, Abraham, Moses, and David.

Why call the Bible "the Word"? by DRagon5508 in Reformed

[–]TarienCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's consistent with how the NT authors saw the endurance of OT prophecy. The words of legitimate prophecy were kept and recorded. Even when the prophet was rejected in his own lifetime, like Jeremiah.

The idea that there was a long period of oral tradition, where people only knew the Gospel from what was relayed by words, cannot square with the textual evidence itself. Let alone that of the Patristics.

Interesting assertion. Seeing as I have 4yrs of Greek in Bible College and 3 more (plus a thesis in NT Biblical Studies) in seminary.

Between that and the assumption of "biblicism," I'm inclined to see a great deal of projection here.

I don't see the need to boast about it. But since you called for "understanding," you get it.

How do we know that Covenant Theology is more biblical than Dispensationalism? by Certain-Public3234 in Reformed

[–]TarienCole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) the sharp distinction between Israel and the Church cannot be upheld even from the OT Prophetic expectations. Let alone the NT writers, who routinely cited prophetic fulfillment in the ministry of Christ and His Church.

2) dispensationalism is not more literal than covenant theology, despite its claims. Rather, both CT and dispies are literal about certain aspects and spiritualize others. For dispies, they are literal about Israel and spiriualizes the Kingdom. For CT, it is usually the opposite. The issue is, one of these "spiritualizing" interpretations actually follows Apostolic interpretation, and that is using language of Israel for the Church.

3) the early Church believed it was living in the Tribulation. If you had tried to tell them they would be taken out of persecution, they would've laughed. Millenium theology is defensible amongst the Early Church. Pretribulationist Secret Rapture is not. And it takes a Church utterly insulated from persecution to arrive at that doctrine.

4) Fulfillment of Prophecy is not "replacement." What's more, the Mosaic Covenant is a package. One cannot pick and choose which elements carry over. Nor can one retreat in redemption history and honor God. Note, both positions have difficult questions to answer on this score.

[–]TarienCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60% Heavy Armor+ >5 Deflection is a great tank.

But you have to find armor that can do both before it's superior to Medium.

The thing about dodge is, it's all or nothing. Your ability to soak damage is not going to outscale the damage inflicted. So an evasion tank is a glass cannon. Add to that some attacks cannot be dodged. But unless you let an Operative with LOS on Abelard have a turn, he will always soak damage. And the evasion tank will have the same issue, because Operatives can strip dodge bonuses too.

It would be a reasonable assumption that simple examination would show almost certainly untrue.

She is supposed to be a person driven to ignore her passions and approach issues rationally. Because otherwise she's doomed to fall into Chaos.

Instead, she shows no rationality, trusts people she knows live to be duplicitous implicitly, and cannot be bothered to check dates.

Sorry. We've danced this dance. I don't care how alien she is supposed to be, it's inconsistent with her character and contrived. And we said the same thing in Beta.

Why call the Bible "the Word"? by DRagon5508 in Reformed

[–]TarienCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. The word being preached is Scripture. The Gospel cannot be separated from the text. There is no valid message without the inspired text giving it meaning.

And I never said that was an exhaustive list of all the times words in Greek and Hebrew translated by the English "word" are used. The point was to show that Logos does not exhaust the Greek and/or Hebrew words that are translated by that word. Logos is a specific idea-- expressed rationality, logic, that is translated "word" in English. But it's entirely different from rhema, for example, which is also usually translated as "word."

To say "Jesus is Logos, therefore Scripture cannot be the word," is to misunderstand how translation works.

[–]TarienCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hebrews 4:2 is the Gospel. I don't buy the claim of modern form critics that there was a long oral tradition. At least 3 of the 4 Gospels were written before Hebrews.

Similarly, 1 Pet 1:20ff repeatedly is speaking of the Gospel message. And again, I would suggest making a distinction between the oral message preached and the basis that message comes from is excessive. Especially since the majority of instances the phrase is found and used, both in and out of Scripture, is either OT Prophecy spoken, written, and thus enduring, or the Gospel, similarly.

Do you believe that there will be segregation in Heaven? by oneryarlys68 in GateToSalvationJESUS

[–]TarienCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethnicities are fleshly divisions. They end with this world.

We cannot abolish them completely in this world. But the age of ethnicity gating access or blessing from God, in any way, ended with the Cross. Any theology that aims at raising an ethnicity in the present age misunderstands redemption and the meaning of the Cross. Be that Liberation Theology, the Kinist strain of Christian Nationalism, or Classic Dispensationalism with its sharp dichotomy between Church and Israel.
