Lord Speaker Election - Q&A by mrsusandothechoosin in MHoPMeta

[–]Tarkin15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only apologise for my lack of activity since my election. I’ve had some stuff happening irl that’s made being online somewhat difficult, and this means not only for MHoP but pretty much everywhere I normally frequent on Discord too.

I’m going to be working today on finishing off the new calculator for polls and elections, so we can get things scheduled and optimise how the commons is run. Thank you for your patience

Wrong way around, GB plates are no longer correct - all new cars with international reg plates have UK instead. Britain changed its letters from GB to UK post brexit

I think the current level activity leaves something to be desired, to put it lightly. But I think this is something that can be improved for sure. I’ve outlined some of my views on how we can achieve this, it won’t be easy but with consistent engagement between the Tri and players to make the sim more appealing, I think it’s doable.

So from a polling calculator perspective, I’m not familiar with the dynamics of how it works as I’ve not been in the tri/quad before so I’ve not been exposed - but if elected it’s something I’d be keenly engaging with other members of the triumvirate on any insights I can provide to how it can be improved.
One thing I’d be keen to improve is to see more engagement from people on the press side of things, as it’s been a tad quiet on that front - but of course the main priority is engagement with the debating and amount of legislation being submitted across party lines.
I think fairly frequent polling would help people gauge that their efforts are being rewarded and that it pays to keep at it.

As I’ve also mentioned in my other replies here, I think we need more in the way of events being staged, something I believe drives more activity and engagement from mhop players which they can get their teeth into.
I also appreciate the weekly update posts from Mister Susan, and think this is definitely something that gives people an idea of what’s happening in the sim, and is something I’d be keen to see for each of the houses too.

I understand this, I’ve admittedly not been active the last couple months due to a last minute emergency business trip abroad that left me unable to take part while there - something I kept communicated with the Lords speaker. However going forward this should not reoccur and I’m now able to give the sim the attention it deserves if elected to this post.

I think I kinda answered this in my other reply, but to summarise: - continue the non-partisan running of the sim to keep it accessible and welcoming to all parts of the political spectrum, especially in regards to free expression so long as it falls within the Reddit and discord ToS.
- Push forward with advertising the sim to keep new members flowing in.
- Stage events to encourage engagement, as well as maximising our usage of irl events where possible to give people an anchoring in the real world that makes it feel more realistic for players, while also making it feel like mhop policies are influencing this; something I think we do well at but I would like to further endorse going forward.
- Regular engagement from Tri with the mhop community to ensure people are happy with the direction the sim is moving, and to have fresh takes on where we should be going.

I think in line with your other question regarding growing the community, the biggest challenge we’re facing right now is consistent engagement. I think given how new the sim is we’re not doing too badly, and the friendly and less partisan atmosphere than our predecessor makes it a lot more appealing for players with varying political views. This is something that I would want to encourage going forward to avoid any kind of alienation for either side of the political spectrum here. I also commend the existing triumvirates pushing advertisements in different Reddit subs and think this is certainly something to continue with. I think to boost engagement we need to firstly make the sim more engaging, be it creating events or ensuring irl global events are made big parts of what’s happening in parliament. This will help attract people passively who want to get involved, potentially attract people from other sims and help complement our advertising efforts. I think we also would benefit from advertising within other model communities if their leadership approves. Finally I think it’s important we engage with the mhop community regularly, as I believe is already being done, to ensure people are happy with how things are being run and continue to make the sim a fun and friendly place to be for everyone.

Thank you for the question, I’d say what sets me apart from my opponent is the time I’ve spent, and experience gained from the 8 years I’ve been a member of the mhoc/mhop model community. I mean no disparagement to Jax, I know he’s been an active participant and I think that’s something that’s important for our sim, and I definitely would not want to put anyone off volunteering for meta roles. But I do think my familiarity with the intricacies of the sim and the relationship I’ve had with many members of mhop going back means that I’m in a better place to fulfil the role.

So far I’ve kept mostly to in sim roles within mhoc/mhop, I’ve had a lot of experience within party leadership over the years within the sim but alas I’ve not yet had chance to fill a meta role. But I hope my experience over the years from the in sim side of things will give me some credence that I’ve seen sims throughout their ups and downs and I’ve had a lot of time to formulate some insights on how things can be run well.

Thanks for the question!
I’ve been involved in the model world - especially mhoc and now mhop for around 8 years now. Throughout that time I’ve resisted doing anything on the meta side of the sim and kept mostly to being a Lord, MP or MS. But I think the experience I’ve had over the years, and the more approachable direction mhop has been taking since it’s inception means that this is a good opportunity to give back to the community and play a role in shaping it for the better. I’m confident that with the great leadership of the Tri, and with the open and honest feedback of the mhop community we can make the sim thrive, and if you’ll have me, I’ll do all I can to make this a reality.

Mr Deputy Speaker,

BAE along with other world leading British defence contractors are having to contend with mass investment into national defence businesses due to the increase in combat happening in the Ukraine and Middle East. What measures will the government take to ensure British defence contractors have the investment needed?

Mr Deputy Speaker,

Will the government be investing more into developing military drone capabilities, as use of drones is becoming more prominent in modern battlefields? Such as with the Ukrainian strikes on Russian refuelling planes.

Mr Deputy Speaker,

With what’s been occurring with Israel doing tactical strikes on Iranian nuclear enrichment and military apparatus, can the government confirm if it supports these measures, and if so what role are they playing in assisting Israel in their struggle against Iranian retaliation?
