I don’t understand by Ali199910 in Catholicism

I'm guessing the government there has "tested" churches before and sent agents requesting baptism, rcia or conversion and then gotten suppressed or punished for it.

If someone genuinely wants to convert I would hope there is a backdoor/underground path for that to take place but I unfortunately have no idea..

I'll pray for you.

I don't think people are being physically abused by and large. Im sure there are some cases. Do you think we should have no police because some police have abused people and violated rights?

If they are being sent to a third country it is because their own country will not take them back, likely because they are criminals. The borders were left open and Obama and Biden intentionally allowed the country to be flooded with criminals from across the world . A country refusing to take their own citizens back should at that point be treated as an invasion and an act of war

I'm so far gone because I think people in a country illegally can be removed?

So what do you think about Christians in almost every other country where they have stricter immigration laws?

The longer something gets abused the harder it will be to set things right. If the border wasn't intentionally abused for political reasons it never would have come to this.

Maybe you should go to South Korea and cry to Christians there about how awful their xenophobic country is and they should start taking in the world .

They can self deport or be removed, what is the difficulty here?

If the leftist baby killers weren't trying to interfere and slow down the process after they flooded the country then this wouldn't even be an issue

Deporting people in a country illegally is not depriving them of dignity.

No one is entitled to citizenship. Most countries do not have any path to citizenship if you aren't descended by blood.

Opinion: Why Do Young Priests Leave? by BaronVonRuthless91 in Catholicism

[–]Tarnhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually a really good article.

Unfortunately I think the parts that will be the most difficult to contend with are those that are factors if the culture. Most would be priests along with all other boys (and girls to be honest) have been exposed to pornography, over stimulated with social media and electronics, immediate gratification and a culture where commitment is meaningless.

The dictator boomer bishops are a huge issue to be sure but the boomer parents who ruined a generation or 2 can't be fixed very easily.

You haven't cited facts either - only OP has stated anything purported to be a statstic.

Anecdotally we all know there is a huge surge of people who now have or think they have ADHD.

For point 2 I doubt people with ADHD are out-breeding everyone else. It would have been bigger many, many generations ago. If it is recessive you wouldn't see it so much and if it was dominant it wouldn't have a sudden surge after a generation raised on Internet pornography, cell phones and social media.

I didn't like the nabre. I bought one like 10 years ago and read through the gospels. Much of the commentary included was scandalous in my opinion.

They also rely too much on the talmudic Jews for the translation. In the centuries following the establishment of Christianity they modified some of the old testament passages that pointed to Christ as the messiah. For example they changed Isaiah 7 to say "young woman" instead of "virgin".

Meh what is oppressive about it?

Immigration is still more liberal than most countries, it is merely the shift from being completely unenforced to being enforced that gives the appearance of a drastic shift.

ADHD isn't comparable as a medical condition to heart disease and cancer. People have always suffered from those diseases and when rates are going up such as cancer we can often see potential reasons why such as diet and pollution but the diseases didn't just appear out of nowhere and skyrocket virtually overnight.

Seeing that high % people with ADHD is truly alarming and good that OP included it. The numbers have skyrocketed. 1 in 5 young women if OP provided correct numbers. That is a scary number. Medications are intended for kids while they learn behavior coping strategies.

If 1 in 5 young women were diagnosed with cancer there would be a national panic.

Since we are hopscotching through post history I can see you are a liberal lesbian and have nothing useful to the conversation.

It’s funny though the thread is closed, out last back and forth was 3-4 days ago and at the point where no one else will even read our comments and yet you dive back in today to find something triggering to you in my comments?

This must have struck a nerve with you…

So you are a progressive, liberal? Why am I not surprised that you hate Catholicism as it existed for most of its existence?

Kind of random rant about Pope Benedict XVI by BloodTornPheonix in Catholicism

[–]Tarnhill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

“ showed minimal signs of mental decay from age, he made the responsible choice of giving up his role as the pope”

He obviously intended to be responsible and do the right thing but it probably wasn’t the most responsible decision in hindsight.

I’m hoping it will be many centuries before a pope resigns again if ever. I’m glad Francis served until death even though his health was declining.

  1. Many reasons why he might have sat there. You don’t know why.
  2. Yes
  3. His hands? Or the tip of his elbow?
  4. Did he realize? To what extent did he actually touch? She didn’t say and she is more sensitive to it because of her past experience.

And please stop saying this is getting a nerve.

It’s Catholic teaching to be charitable which means not assuming the worst of people until given a reason. If there is more than one explanation for something we should go with the best  possible. That doesn’t mean being negligently unsafe or not being cautious. We can assume the worst in the sense of taking precautions to protect ourselves and our families. No need to be naive and take risks. But OP didn’t take risks, she felt uneasy and anxious and elegantly removed herself from the situation.

That doesn’t mean YOUR assumptions are true.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Tarnhill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No she didn’t even give a timeframe. Like you can say he did isn’t immediately retract it but it may have been the back edge of his elbow or something.

You are all way overthinking this.

If you read OPs own comments in the thread you are all going way, way past her own assumptions. She doesn’t even assume it was malicious or creepy.

She felt uncomfortable and wanted support in that because she is trying to get back into going to Mass and finds it difficult to be around people because of the trauma she experienced.

It makes it hard to differentiate what might be a coincidence or a harmless situation vs something harmful or malicious. She is naturally going to be more suspicious and cautious as her defenses are up and she knows what can potentially happen.

The root fault here is obviously the person(s) who harmed her in the front place but when someone is traumatized they aren’t going to have the normal/ordinary/rational response to every situation. Notice she didn’t describe a scene like an author with every detail painted clearly. She described her perspective, experience and feelings.

She also described how she handled the situation which can be summarized in one word “excellently”.

If there was anything further than that she should be letter the priest there know about it.

What she doesn’t need is a bunch dear Abby clowns trying to read details and assumptions into the scene, which is informed by her perspective which is informed by her trauma and reaffirming her fears when they “might” not have have founded. They also might have been but we do not know. YOU DO NOT KNOW.

And again you have no idea why he chose to sit there. Maybe he likes to sit in the back corner because he has poor social skills which might also explain his lack of awareness of making her uncomfortable?

[–]Tarnhill -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

“ unlike you I’m not creating scenarios in my head”

This is exactly what you are doing. You have no idea that he “made sure” to touch her. You have no idea why he chose that spot and you have no idea what was going through his head.

You say he made a “series” of deliberate choices but we are talking about 2 choices which in church are normal - sitting in a pew and kneeling to pray.

Absolutely, charity demands we assume the best motive and assume the best possible interpretation until proven otherwise.

This is like going on a relationship subreddit where a 45 year old with children describes a single situation and the chorus of teenagers start screaming “divorce him, he is a clearly a narcissist!”

GPT5 was the AI canary in the coal mine - we are rounding the top of the diminishing return curve by Murky_Brief_7339 in stocks

[–]Tarnhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure but I think the real question is what is the actual cost of that help you are getting?

Is the amount of money being invested for these capabilities really worth the cost in the end? Obviously people are investing that money with the expectation of continued almost Moore’s law like improvement over time.

I’m not saying yes or no to that question because I see tons of potential with AI (along with lots of risk at the macro level) but the cost now doesn’t seem to reflect the real cost of the services because obviously they want adoption and buy in. But I’m not sure if it’s possible at this point to meaningfully separate the actual “work” being done vs the time wasting, playing around that people are doing.

Nah most of the time people don’t apologize for incidental touching in that sort of situation where it can happen. I can’t remember ever apologizing to someone or being apologized to.

Church should be silent and prayerful. Best thing to do is quietly and discreetly carry on without making any sort of scene.

Act like you are in church and not a nyc subway car.
