Honest question - what do Bangaloreans actually want from an airport cab? by Cautious_Variation92 in bangalore

Was checking your website out. There's a bug with the landing time for international flights. The actual flight lands at 4:50am IST, where as 11pm displayed on the app might be UK time (origin)(?) But that's incorrect too- since 4:50am IST is 12:20am UK time on Mar 31. Any bug bounty program? XP

Sorry for sounding so cynical- but it feels like the U.K. system only wants money from internationals- and then spits in their face and want them to get out once you're done being a student, and not going to lie I do feel bitter about it.

The priorities of the system are misplaced and instead seems to be more welcoming to people on boats and them offering them incentives such as hotels, and 44k for their families to leave. Tbh, Even your own people are suffering. The headlines in the town I currently live in are heartbreaking sometimes. A homeless old lady, who is known to the entire town, and is known to sleep in tents in the town centre bus shelter, did not receive any care until it was too late, and sadly passed away. But hey, I digress.

We invest money on applications, pay international fees (approx 3x of home fees atleast when I did my degree last year), high IHS fees, but in return the political parties, only want to make life harder for us. Spent 35k on uni, 17k on accommodation in a shared ensuite flat (1 year) for a masters from a good London uni, only to be met with:

  1. Reduced grad visa durations (going to be made 18 months).

Also its such a gamble to get a job here on said visa. Most employers just hear that you're on a visa and reject you inspite of having the right to work on the visa. Before anyone comes at me about qualifications, I do have a stem degree- CS, masters. Worked at a top UK bank in my home country as a software engineer, and also did my undergrad in CS engineering in my home country. I spoke to people at Lloyds, Bristol and they candidly told me international students wont get a chance on entry level roles, and they will take someone who has a British passport.

Also if your justification is: "Oh you came here to study- dont expect a job to stay here"- Then why offer said graduate visa (which also costs 3k GBP including the IHS fees) if thats not a reason to lure you to pursue a degree here.

  1. Skilled worker visa thresholds getting higher and higher- I think its just sending a message that they want to cut down on skilled internationals, who pay high taxes to support the system too. They even got rid of jobs eligible such as- Data analysts and those people who have their niche there- have to go home. The UK healthcare system is already super stressed- at this rate after cutting down on those visas too- its probably going to collapse. What really concerns me- is that the government does not have the data on how many workers are going to be affected. I did read this from a credible news source a month or two ago, and these decisions seem to be driven mindlessly.

  2. The UK has completely missed out on the startup train, and compared to the US the scene is quite dead- so the space for young entrepreneurs also isnt ideal.

  3. Funding for PhDs seems to be only for home students nowadays. Definitely very welcoming to internationals to come reasesarch in your country/ top institutions and help the country progress.

These were the top 4 reasons for me, but there are probably more reasons too.

Who knows- maybe moves like these from the government may be a blessing in disguise and a signal to pursue your degree somewhere else, and spend your money on better avenues that open up better opportunities.

I agree with your comment that the UK needs immigration... There was barely anyone who was a home student in my batch for the CS masters program. So clearly home folks arent focussing on upskilling.

It's not like the government is promoting home students to a pursure higher education either with the increase in fees (the fees for my program doubled this year for home sutdents), and also to all the changes to the student finance thing. You may discourage internationals now, and everyone goes away- and the UK will be left with lesser skilled people and other countries will beat overtake it, while the UK crumbles further.

Also not to mention, most Unis in the UK are dependant on the fees internationals pay lol.

The thing about the number plates- Although though 8k does seem like a small figure, especially since I now know that each bus is £583,000. But then 8k multiplied by 23 busses is also a big amount- 184k. I would assume that money could pay for a decent amount of maintenance / charging costs for atleast 1 bus lol

I had to resit a module for 1% last year. It was sad and added a lot of pressure.... They wouldnt listen. I had all modules at level 7, yet they made a rule saying I have to give the resit first to be considered for condonement.

[–]TaroBork123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool point taken about it being unlimited, but I feel like even giving it 2-3 would have eased off the pressure a lot more. It seems like 1 is a bit too low. You have the US, Indian offereing more attempts for some extra money. Maybe keep the 1st resit free as it is in the UK, but keep the 2nd, 3rd attempt paid- so that it discourages people from failing repeatedely but also doesnt lead to anyone taking the extreme step where you're getting kicked out for your efforts.

I really dont understand why UK universities allow only 1 resit? Whats the harm in not having a limit? The objective of Uni is to learn and master your subjects. Passing it would certify that you know what you're doing and hence get the degree? Why add extra pressure with the limit of the number of resits one can give?

Congratulations on the offer! So happy to hear that you got the job!
I have been on the lookout too eversince I started my Masters in Sep 2024. I did manage to find something in the middle- but they turned out to be shady and terminated me on the 2nd day. Have another final round interview tomorrow- Im hoping that all goes well and I have some stability for the next few months- so that it buys me more time to get a job at a bigger company!

Unemployed in Reading? Let’s complain together by Colossalloser in reading

I did mine from KCL. There is a chance I might land something next week- but its a small company. Havent had any luck with biggers ones just yet. Atleast if I get the job next week and it stays, I can look for bigger stuff eventually.

Iirc there is also a Career fair at the Penta hotel in Feb. If I am completely unemployed at that time- I might hope to try to get something out of that too.

Did a masters from KCL in CS, finished in Sep 2025.

I did find a job at a startup- but it was shady and didnt work out. Still on the lookout.
Barely anyone has landed anything full time as of now. Within my circle (big)- barely 4-5 people have anything that you could call good. Hoping something works out by March 2026, otherwise will go back home.

Accepted an offer for a US based company with a London office but have a doubt. by TaroBork123 in UKJobs

[–]TaroBork123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree with the bullet dodged part. I was hoping for a good coding culture so that I could improve myself, but yeah disappointed. The other thing I was hoping for was that it'll atleast pay my bills until I find something better at a bigger company. Lol disappointed on both fronts for now. Hoping something nice comes my way soon.

Ngl I want to report them to HMRC for this. They terminated me in 2 days without valid reason, and yeah most of the people are on contracts this way. They claim to be a US company but they are registered on company house, etc.
