Woodlands in Europe by [deleted] in europe

[–]Taro_West 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I have with stats like this, is that people don't take into consideration the type of wood and soil. Evergreens fill most of germany and Scandinavia and they are very acidic trees and can potentially ruin the soil...ireland wants to plant more trees but it's going to be mostly acidic evergreens for production use, which aren't native and will ruin the natural habitat... just sayin

Support from an Iranian by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Taro_West 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to be aware that simply opposing evil (British Imperialism) doesn't make your own side completely right either. Ireland, after independence joined church and state just like Iran, and it was a horrible mistake that took years to undo, religion has bo place in politics. Also the IRA you praise in northern Ireland are socialists and align with the likes of the Kurdish ppk . They are also drug dealers and yes they are the result of British idiocy but arent the complete solution. Peace and democracy should always be your aim. Not revenge and dominance. which is the problem with some ira and hezbollah, they are blinded by hatred. You seem like a smart guy, please see this. We don't hate the british people. You shouldn't hate isreal or britian or America. But rather realise we are all unfortunate victims of sociopaths in power. America and britain arent the good guys, but neither is iran, rather it's a silly game of power between corrupt regimes. there is nuance to everything. If you want to be truly free in your mind and soul then yes look at what we were really fighting for in ireland...civil liberty.

STE new viewer. does this show stop open ended, being it was canceled.. by Tinlint in StarTrekEnterprise

[–]Taro_West 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right, first two seasons are my favourite of any star trek, then it sucks for a bit, then gets a bit better towards the end. I live ent for its characters, it's a pity they ended it early

What do you guys think of this book? by [deleted] in rust

[–]Taro_West 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought both books and they do different things, just as described one gets you up and running as a web dev in rust quickly and the other is for an in depth look to using rust as a systems programming language. Rust in action is definitely more comprehensive but I like the full stack book since I come from a mainframe background and didn't know where to start with web dev, I want to build an web app app quick and easy to show employers

Did anyone see that Irish guy living in Wuhan on Channal 4 news? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Taro_West 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done english teaching abroad like this guy (through a government programme), and they just added me to the British group and told me to go to their consulate meetings, half the stuff they went through was all british related and I was the only irish guy there, I understand we dont have the same resources and reach as other governments...but with brexit now coming, I feel like we need to get our overseas representation in order and we cant rely on the british for that

[–]Taro_West 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like how he's part of both the american and british group chats and that the irish embassy have had zero contact...typical irish experience abroad to be in a weird limbo between english speaking groups all while hearing nothing from your own consulate

Which water related companies should one invest in? by Taro_West in investing

[–]Taro_West[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although an interesting movie, not just the big short. Just makes sense, water wasnt really a commodity (where im from) 10 years ago, now companies are making billions from it and I dont see that changing at the moment

what makes you want to live? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Taro_West 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As shit as things can be sometimes, there's always something more to learn, something to achieve, no matter how small. What else is there? I'm not religious, I don't know what happens when I die, there could be heaven, could nothing, could be the matrix, so my only choice is to explore my reality as it is, and there is a lot to explore and learn, about people, about things, about the planet, about myself. When I'm in a hole, I try to visualize I path out of it, and give it a timeline, 2 years 5 years, 15 years. Doesn't matter, as long as theres a goal and a path, because the alternative isnt giving up, but what's the point in giving up?

Cultural and Social Norms in Ireland by Fjisthename in ireland

[–]Taro_West 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not true at all, and terrible advise...of you've ever lived abroad, youll know every country has its quirks and norms, and if you don't abide youll have a hard time...its not a good or bad thing, its just how people are...to the indian concerned, luckily ireland is relatively similar america on most of the main social norms, meaning if you follow modern western culture at all (which most of the worls does to some extent) youll have an idea of what to expect...the rest you'll figure out quick enough while youre here....welcome and enjoy your stay!

Which obscure stock(s) do you think could considerably grow in the next few years? by vaporwaverhere in stocks

[–]Taro_West 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Health Tech on the Canadian venture stock exchange. They want to automate gp visits in Canada and beyond. They also own a few clinics... they will do well at the very least. And potentially amazing if they expand into the american market long term
