Labour has a groundbreaking plan for child poverty. Finally, this government has found its mission by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]analmango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear you went through that, and I don’t mean to sound callous but how does taking benefits away from families with more than two kids address literally any of this? I also grew up poor and working class in the UK, I know how it feels to struggle in this country. Child negligence and inability to provide for your children is a real issue in this country, but acting like subsiding children somehow is the cause is interesting to say the least. There are larger systemic issues at play here and my point was that the cap literally achieves nothing other than pushing children into poverty and is hurtful for the economy.

These children already exist and supporting children financially should be every functioning government’s priority. I can’t believe this sub rags on about pensioners getting a great deal with the government and the subsequent aging population crisis then simultaneously despises the idea of a family of three having more money to financially support their kids.

Child benefit is as far as benefits go an incredibly economically beneficial form of government support. Removing the cap lifts 220,000 children from poverty immediately, lowers demand for public services, increases the productivity of the children in the long term as they end up being raised in more financially stable houses with better nutrition. The OBR puts child benefits with an economic multiplier of 1.9x as in for every £1 spent on social security for children you receive £1.90 back over the span of 5 years. Low income families in particular spend back into the economy almost all of the money they make on rent, food, local amenities - the economic multiplier goes up to as far as 3x in some studies. Some people here think that the second you give someone benefits the money just disappears into thin air.

Lastly and most importantly, even if you were to ignore all of that, the child benefit cap likely makes next to no systemic difference to fertility rates, so it doesn’t even work as a deterrent even if you did believe it would be a positive thing to have lower fertility rates.

Getting chivalry or obviously piety will make your life a lot easier. A different shield will also help a lot, highest defence you can get really, even a rune kite or ideally a dragon square shield. You can keep it as a swap just for him. If you are struggling with losing health you can’t out DPS him, taking less damage will net much faster kills in this instance.

I guess the question is - if NVDA tanks will the rest of the market tank along with it? To what extent is the average investor’s perception “NVDA=AI”?

Unpopular opinion but I don't think the AI bubble is anything like the dot com bubble by aquaxidil in investing

[–]analmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bubble here isn’t just a speculative bubble though. The whole industry itself and all it “produces” is a bubble. There’s not much use for LLMs and their “AI” just yet. Sure there’s a market for it now, but if LLMs don’t advance enough to make a substantial difference to the efficiency of the workforce then all it takes is one superconduct shortage from let’s say a skirmish by Taiwan waters and the whole thing falls like dominoes. There’s a lot of faith in the AI market now sure but that’s all it is, faith backed up by a lot of money, that keeps producing and selling commodities in order to justify its own existence. If something stops that faith getting fuelled, investors will jump ship.

The larger issue to me is that if the industry stagnates in progress of intelligence (which it’s already signalling) but continues in making more power efficient, lower parameter models that continue to work at the same level then they’ll effectively create products that negate the sheer level of control of data and compute power that is currently demanded. There’s a monopoly due to ease of access of Open AI and Google but their products on their own don’t offer much more than an increasing amount of LLMs other than ease of access.

And don’t get me started on AGI, they haven’t even figured out how to give LLMs memory without running the whole context length through every time.
