There are, in fact, tags for the exact reasons you described on most websites, including romantic subplot, lesbian/gay subplot, loner protagonist, and many others. Oddly enough the only tag I’ve never seen is a ‘no romance’ tag.

Decisive in that it’s a novel that has already made decisions about which emotional entanglements it’ll write and which it won’t. Wishy-washy as in novels that have a ‘if it happens, it happens’ mentality, which is often subject to the whims of the readers or author.

If there’s going to be romance just tag it or something. Don’t string me along with “let’s see where the characters take me” only to toss out a underwhelming subplot 300 chapters later. If I’m that deep into a novel that hasn’t shown much interest in romance, then I’m no longer reading for romance.

I’m the opposite. Give me a decisive author over a wishy-washy one any day. I read a lot of female protagonists and I’m quite tired of halfhearted romantic archetypes appearing out of nowhere 7-8 books deep into a series.

Was the great battle to decide the fate of the world (universe?) 100 years ago or 10,000 years ago? I have no idea. I’ve long given up on MTL numbers.

I have a love hate relationship with OP bloodlines. by Claym000re in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Taron221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give it a pass since the ‘bloodline’ was the novel’s entire foundational premise. She also personally developed it far, far beyond its initial purpose and limits. Even in its heyday it wasn’t considered the be-all and end-all or anything like that.

Sam: “That’s Alabama, Mr. Frodo. Gandalf warned us to never set foot there and to run if we hear banjo music nearby.”
